August clothing

I generally wear a short sleeve cotton shirt and a knee-length flowy cotton skirt. I think your daughter will be fine in cotton as long as it is light colored and loose. I would suggest adding at least a cap sleeve so that the top of her shoulders are covered (my shoulders would burn without the sleeves even though I'm very careful about applying sunscreen).

I would definitely go with a light colored wide-brimmed hat too. Have fun making the outfits!

Living in Alabama, our summer weather can be just as brutal as Florida's. The comfort factor depends on how much rain we have had, which will boost the humidity into uncomfortable levels. Yearly weather patterns can change, so we may have an August where the temperatures stay in the low 90s, or some years it may be 105 or 108 during the day. Plan for the worst.

If I have to perform any outside activities during the summer, I try to prepare for it. Keep hydrated. Drink constantly, even when you don't feel like drinking. Wear light colored clothing - I like khaki, light blue, white or off white. I also try to perform my activities in the morning, when its cooler or after the sun goes down (there are times I mow my lawn in the dark!) I also avoid cotton fabrics next to my skin (socks and underwear.) Cotton may be light, but it fills up with your perspiration and will not dry out. After a while, wet cotton will act like sandpaper on your skin and you will have chafing.

During the summer, I wear moisture wicking socks and underwear. My shirts are also moisture wicking and loose fitting. I also try to wear synthetic pants or shorts if possible.

If I am going to be walking or exercising, I also apply stick deodorant to any areas of my skin that may be subject to chafing. I use Arm & Hammer deodorant, since it isn't alcohol based. You can buy Body Glide and products like that, but they are more expensive.

A wide brimmed, light colored hat is a must. Nothing worse than having the tops of your ears sunburned!

Have a good trip and enjoy Disney!

I wish we could pick a different time, but as a teacher/ summer school teacher - I am unable to take time off work during the year. I get a week off between summer school and regular school in August, and that's it.

You don't have much time then. I commend you for choosing your profession. It is a great and noble profession which often receives more beatings than it deserves. God bless you!

I've lived in southeast Texas, which is just about as hot and humid as Florida. I'm also super pale, and never tan. I wear 3/4 to full length sleeves and capris if I'm going to be out all day, and a hat with a brim. The pants are usually a performance fabric from REI or the like, shirts are usually loose, light cotton or linen. If your dd does not tan well, I'd avoid sleeveless. Make sure the hats you wear have ventilation in them. Apply sunscreen regularly. It's no fun being badly sunburned from day 2 on for vacation.

My ds is Chinese, and basically never burns. He could run around naked at WDW and do fine. LOL Yes, I know technically he could, but honestly, he's never burned, even when the rest of us have. Skin of iron, that one.

Drink so much water you know where every bathroom in the park is. That is much better than the alternative of getting dehydrated and feeling badly. I didn't catch if you were staying on property, but if you are (and even if you aren't), consider going back to the room and pool for several hours in the afternoon to refresh. Not what you asked for, but it makes our days so much nicer. The statement about how good a shower feels is no understatement! If you have a washer and dryer where you're staying, consider doing laundry. We usually wear two outfits a day when we go.

I do not know if any one has said this but here as a floridan my self is what I would do

I wear omni freeze or zero and I think it really works

a fain with a mister ( they do sell them in the parks but you can bring your own)

cooling cloths ( some say they do not work but I think they do) I use 02cool

sun screen ( get water proof sweet proof I feel stays on longer) I replay about ever 2 to 3 hours and make sure you put it allover even under the shirt some so a little under the caller of the shirts and if there are sleves as shirts do and will move and the sun will burn you in less then 10 minutes.

drink water and more then you think
it is all so good to have some power aid not a lot but if your are sweeting a lot it will help to replace loss electrolytes and other things you sweet, ( I go to first aid for medical resion and just about every time I am there someone comes in what is over dehydrated and this is what the nurse all ways tell the person)

if you are one of your kids starts to feel a little sick over heated go to first aid where they can rest and rehydrate and get to feeling better faster.

Wanted to add, we went on the Wild Africa Trek at AK last month and they passed out these: http://www.frostytowel.com/index.html They work crazy well, like magic. There is some sort of essential oil in them that stays cold when wet. You can rewet them and they cool down again. We just put them on the back of our necks. They lasted easily several hours.

We did get to keep them, but I admit we didn't use them again. I don't think they work forever, but the definitely lasted the afternoon.

I'm a Texan and a red-head, and I'm in the anti-sleeveless camp. Cotton dresses are just fine, IMO unless she really sweats a lot. Sunhats are good--- they sell cute ones in the parks, or at the Disney store. Have fun! We are heading down in Sept, hoping it'll cool off just a tad.
