August 9, 2011 (8/9/2011) Taking the Wonder to see the AMERICAN CHILD

........ here is something to watch to help you guys pass the days....

http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=628EA9319EB72039

Thanks for the link. Great fun to watch.

I am collecting opinions from returning WONDER Alaska cruisers and getting a wide variety of answers concerning footwear.

I have recieved recommendations for and against taking:
old sneakers that can go anywhere
good sneakers for the ship and hiking boots for the excursions
slippers for the ship and hiking boots for the excursions
good sneakers for the ship and old sneakers for the excursions.

What is anyone planning to take?

In the interests of trying to get together on the cruise, how do people feel about either posting or pm'ing their real names, or at least the name of the person their DCL reservation is under so that messages can be left for them if we are trying to meet up with them. Or cabin #s, I guess, so a note can be left?

I can just hear myself asking a CM "can you tell me where Caropooh, Geffric and PerditaPongo are?:lmao:

How have DISmeets been arranges on other cruises everyone's been on?:confused3

Is there a particular time that's good for both early and late diners on either of the first 2 days?

Laurie :goodvibes

If you look over the list in the first post you can find names of some of the cruisers if they wanted them listed. That will keep you from receiving too many PM's. Also, if you are participating in the FE exchange you will have the names of cruisers and their cabins as well.

We are leaving the 5th, 3 weeks from today, from Boston!! We're doing a pre-excursion in Whistler for a few days. Can't wait to see the Olympic Village. This will be our 9th cruise and our kids are now 19 and 16. My "adult" is excited to get her first spa treatment. Can't wait to be onboard again!!!

We are:
Lori and Ralph
Rachel (19)
Natalie (16 1/2)

Matt will also be 19 (his birthday is July 24). On our last cruise he went to Palo for the first time.

Our DS is 23. He was too young to do Palo on his last cruise.
We couldn't get a reservation this time-will have to try when we board.

My daughter Meaghan and her friend Julie are a little older than yours (21 and 22) but if she's looking for company around her age....

My sons are 20 and 18.. they are very worried that they are the only ones on the cruise past club/lab/stack age..can we arrange a time/place for the older "kids" to meet??

An interesting tidbit I read this weekend is that the unofficial Alaska state drink is the

DUCK FART
I didn't even know Donald could do that!!! :donald:

Drink Like an Alaskan
Every state in the nation has a list of attributed symbols: the state bird, flag, flower, song—and in Alaska there is the state drink. It's called the Duck Fart. It is quintessentially Alaskan, as it manages to weed out the meek and shy just by its name alone. It is comprised of Kahlúa, Bailey's Irish Cream, and Crown Royal. No need to be timid when it comes to ordering this drink; locals drink it too. Once you've had a Duck Fart, you can honestly say you've experienced Alaska like an Alaskan.

I've hesitated to post here because I tend to be more outgoing than the rest of our party. I think they like to go at their own pace when meeting people for the first time.

We'll be traveling with 7.

Myself and wife
DD - 22 and DD BF - 26? (ok ... I just don't know this ... sorry)
DS - 20
DD - 18
DD - 16

My wife and I have been on a CCL and a RCL cruise, one of which was a repositioning cruise to Vancouver. This is the first cruise for everyone else and the first Disney cruise for all of us. We are all pretty big Disney fans so it has never worried us that we are all older and aboard a Disney cruise.

This thread, at 100 plus pages, is pretty overwhelming so there is no way I can say that I know what's going on here, but it sounded like a good idea to at least pop in and say ... HI!

Weather advice for Juneau from the glacier website

Mendenhall Glacier is located in a rain forest, and let's face it - without all that rain and snow, the glaciers wouldn't be here either. Staying warm and dry while kayaking, camping, hiking, biking and so forth is critical to preventing hypothermia as well as making your visit more enjoyable. Come prepared with clothing that is warm even when wet - such as wool and polar fleece - and with items that can be layered. Raingear, hats, gloves and sturdy shoes or hiking boots are strongly recommended. Juneau's weather is fairly mild. Summer highs hover in the upper sixties and summer lows drop to the mid-fifties. Winter highs reach to 45°F. and winter lows stray into the mid-twenties.

HI!

Welcome!!!! :welcome:
I quite often travel with my adult children and it's always on a Disney cruise! We love it!!!

100+ pages is actually small potatoes compared to some other threads. Repositioning threads tend to go 5+ threads at like 250 pages each. Our WBTA last year went to 10 threads!! I found that interacting with other cruisers on these threads can make the trip even more enjoyable. The first time I joined a thread was for a double dip in 2008. I traveled with my Mom who is electronically challenged (actually she doesn't even care to learn) so she had no idea except what I told her about the DIS. That trip we had cruise lanyards for the group and everytime we saw a lanyard or someone saw ours, it was like an ice breaker. She thought it was like having a big extended family!!
