August 9, 2011 (8/9/2011) Taking the Wonder to see the AMERICAN CHILD

I cannot believe it is only four weeks away! I still don't have shore excursions for Skagway or Ketchikan figured out yet!

If anyone is looking for dinner for 2 for Palo, I have seen various dates and times pop up in the past couple of days. Was wishing for high tea to emerge, but I guess that is a pipe dream.

I had another job interview today and I think it went very well! It's at the same place where my hubby works so if I get the job, we can carpool! :) The interview was this morning and this afternoon I worked at the Disney Store earning some vacation money for the cruise! :)

Pixie Dust for the job.pixiedust:

Since there are 7 of us for Palo I'm hoping I can get ressies straightened out when we get on board. I have 2 tables of 6 for brunch (one of which isn't showing up in the documents) and a table for 6 for dinner but I need ressies for 7.

Never done Palo on any of my cruises but one of my tablemates on my last cruise wanted their chicken parm when she was at dinner and since that is a brunch item, they did not have the ingredients to make it right then. So, they made it and had it delivered to dinner at our rotation restaurant the next night! Well, she shared it with the us and my son (who will be on the trip with his wife and in-laws) loved it. We had hoped to do brunch but could not procure a time so I will be trying to get an early embarktion to try to grab a brunch for 7.

Has anyone read the book "Cruise Confidential?" I'm currently reading it and it is providing a lot of insight into what it's like to work on the ships. I will certainly remember to be extra nice to the crew! (not that I wouldn't anyway of course) but even more so!

Anyone else that is around or same age as me?

You can read over the first post to see other kids that are sailing around your age. The majority of the kids haven't posted on the thread. Not even sure many of the kids are registered on DIS, I know my DD isn't and doesn't want to be.

In the interests of trying to get together on the cruise, how do people feel about either posting or pm'ing their real names, or at least the name of the person their DCL reservation is under so that messages can be left for them if we are trying to meet up with them. Or cabin #s, I guess, so a note can be left?

I can just hear myself asking a CM "can you tell me where Caropooh, Geffric and PerditaPongo are?:lmao:

How have DISmeets been arranges on other cruises everyone's been on?:confused3

Is there a particular time that's good for both early and late diners on either of the first 2 days?

Laurie :goodvibes

Weather report for today: Ketchikan - 54, overcast and 70% chance of rain; Juneau - 60, overcast and 70% chance of rain; Skagway - 58, overcast and 40% chance of rain. Pack those raincoats and umbrellas! ;)

I received an e-mail from AirCanada stating that our return flight time on Aug16th has been changed. I had booked us on a 12:30 pm flight out of Vancouver, and now they have changed us to an 11:25 am flight. I called and explained that I booked 12:30 becuase DCL doesnt recommend any flight before noon. Apparently they have "removed the 12:30 flight from the system" and the 11:25 flight is the only one that will get us to Toronto or Montreal in time to connect with the final flight of the day to Boston. :confused3 I called DCL and (of course) they wouldn't say anything except that they recommned a flight itme of 12:00 or later. We really dont' want to stay over another night after the cruise, so I am hoping that we'll be OK. Our new flight is really only a half hour before the recommended time, we'll just have to be among the first to get off the ship.

We are on a United Flight that leaves at 11:25 too. This was the only way I could get us home the same day. I realize there could be delays but I only have a limited amount of vacation days and I didn't want to take any more than necessary so I'll hopefully be home by midnight (in PA) and back to work on Wednesday!!

After reading several posts, I understand that those with the earlier flights can be in the first group off the ship. Unless there are unforeseen delays in disembarking, everyone seems to have made it to the airport with enough time. Will just keep our fingers crossed.

It can be done. Just make sure you let them know when you check in that you need to be in the first disembarking group and then later confirm with guest services. You should receive "special" luggage tags that will assist in getting them into the terminal for pickup first thing. We ran into that same issue in London, UK when we were on the Baltic cruise and in LA after the PC cruise. Made it with tons of time to spare.

Thanks, I feel better. I guess we'll be in good company - many people will be sprinting off the ship that morning! We have DCL transfers so we will have to try to get on the earliest bus. I'll talk to Guest Services when we board and see what they recommend.

We're not flying home until Wednesday so they will have to drag us off the ship screaming and kicking.

And now someone backed into my car at the mall and didn't bother to leave a note. First estimate is $780. I need a vacation.

Ask for the mall to review the security tapes (give them the date and time). The same thing happened to me at a Target store in 2004. They reviewed the tapes and were able to see my car get hit, but at that time could not retrieve the license plate due to poor quality video. However, that was seven years ago, they may have better cameras now.

We booked a 2:30 flight too. But american airlines just changed it to 12:30:::confused3

I loved the book! However, I have read reviews by a lot of people who did not like the book at all....

On a different note - here is something to watch to help you guys pass the days....
