August 9, 2011 (8/9/2011) Taking the Wonder to see the AMERICAN CHILD

Weather in my Massachusetts town today: 59 degrees with showers and 100% humidity :umbrella:

Weather in Juneau today: 58 degrees with showers and 76% humidity
Weather in Skagway today: 52 degrees with showers and 80% humidity
Weather in Ketchikan today: 57 degrees with showers and 72% humidity

Guess I don't have to wonder what to pack.... my "at home" clothes will be perfect!
:rotfl:

After 'tuxing' on all of our previous longer cruises, DH is just gonna wear a dark navy blazer and dark pants with a shirt & tie for formal night on this cruise.

we are thinking of nonformal stuff too.. just suit/suit jacket for DH and boys with nice pants.. i think a nice/dressy pant suit for me..

For those of you arriving in Vancouver a few days early, are you taking any tours in Vancouver or over to Victoria? Which company are you using?:confused3

After all this waiting, our trip is just around the corner (and down the block aways)!:dance3:

Thanks,
Laurie:surfweb:

We arrive in Canada 6 days prior to the cruise, staying 3nts in Victoria and then 3nts in Vancouver. We are not booked on any tours through any companies. Of the things we want to do, we just have to figure out which things on which day! Our tentative plans are:

Victoria: Butchart Gardens, Royal BC Museum, Beacon Hill Park Children's Farm, Parliament Buildings, Victoria Bug Zoo, Chinatown, etc.

Vancouver: Saturday we are helijetting over from Victoria and then after hotel check-in thinking of heading over to Granville Island, maybe trying a JapaDog on the way. In the evening, maybe the Chinatown night market. The fireworks competition is that evening, but not until 10pm - I think we will be too tired, but I'll leave that as a possibility.

We would like to do Grouse Mountain & Capilano Suspension bridge on Sunday, with Monday as a 'rain date'.

Monday we will probably go to Stanley Park & the Aquarium (or on Sunday if we don't go to Grouse/Cap.).

Somewhere in there, we want to eat at the all-you-can-eat sushi place: Shabusen Yakiniku House on Burrard. Oh, and also the Japanese tapas place: Otokomae at Kitanoya Guu on Water Street.

I'd like to wander Gastown if we can fit it in. Maybe the evening we do Grouse/Cap. during the day.

Sorry for delay in responding. DW has me working on our FE gifts tonight... Me and my bright idea's. Thought I could just give her the idea and she would run with it. Looks like it is a joint project...

Anyway. That link thing for the Facebook Page will not work. I was wrong. You need to send me a friend request and once we are friends I can add you.

I am Joseph Schmieg, Mount Laurel NJ

Sorry for sending you all down the wrong path last night / today.. I only work for one of the largest techbology companies in the world, you would think I could figure out a Facebook Group on the first try:eek:

The adding as a friend first for the Facebook Page is working! Thanks to Geffric, and caropooh for sending me requests!

Also added Alanpapa.. This should now show in your Groups section on Facebook. can someone confirm they can access?

If still not working I might need to enlist help from a teenager!!:rotfl2:

I was just thinking that yesterday! Don't think the Alaska weather will take much adjusting to.

Wow - the board suddenly got busy. I need to sit down and catch up! :surfweb:

Yes it is working. I checked out the group page and responded to a comment. Thanks again for doing this Joe.

Just wanted to remind everyone one more time the the Fish Extender Roster will be CLOSED after today. If you need to sign up please PM me. If you do not yet have a cabin assigned that is okay, we can deal with that information later...

So today we hit out 100th page in the DIS Boards for our Meet, and The Fish Extender Closes. Are these Milestones to the trip getting here?:woohoo:

Good Morning...
The Fish Extender Roster for our cruise is now Closed.:cool1:
Below is a link to the most recent version without cabin numbers listed.

https://spreadsheets.google.com/spr...Qmw2Vm1Tb21mQnZuLXc&hl=en_US&authkey=CM3dvM0O

I still need e-mail addresses from the following families so I can send the list with Cabin numbers when the cruise gets closer and all the details have be added, Please PM ME:
  • Geffric
  • DLLocals
  • Caropooh
  • Dustbunny

I think there is also a cabin assignment or two open so we might not have those until the cruise is real close.

As a summary, We have 23 Cabins, 50 Adults, and 26 Kids participating in our Fish Extender. I have added a tab in the spreadsheet that shows the kids ages a little better (my wife has been asking for this so I figured others might find it helpful as well).

I will be e-mailing the list with cabin numbers once everything is populated, I am thinking the week before the cruise.

I have committed to delivering my goodies the first night, it will include a printed out FE Roster in case anyone forget theirs (who ever posted that a couple weeks ago, good idea :worship: )

I will have white board on my cabin door (cabin 2080) where you can note any last minute change in cabin number.

I think that covers it for now!
Joe

Does anyone know the schedule for formal nights on our cruise and other events? I know you can read about them on the Disney site, but I couldn't find any specifics about when it is? As well as Pirate party and other events? I know you get this info onboard every day....but of course I like to know these things in advance!

I can't believe we are in the 30's now!!!

Hi...
We are getting to Vancouver 2 days early. In this short period of time, is there anything that is a must do? Can not miss?

Also, are there any foods that Vancouver is know for that I should experience while there?

Thanks!
Joe
