August 7th, 2010 Mediterranean Cruise

It doesn't take much to make me paranoid :rotfl: But it appears I may have gotten lucky. I got a response from the hotel this morning and they have updated my confirmation to state two adults, two children. So, I am not sure why you are unable to reserve 1 room with 2 double beds. Are your children older than mine? That is the only thing I can think of. My boys are 7 and 9. Did you try to contact the hotel directly even though your TA was unable to reserve 1 room...I went thru email NOT the online reservation form. I have received outstanding service from them, very prompt and detailed responses from everyone I have delt with.

That's what I was thinking. I have an 11 year old (and a six year old). Perhaps they are like Disney and treat an 11 year old like an adult. :-(

That has got to be the reason, that is really too bad. Though, glad we will be staying at the same hotel. Maybe we will see you at the pool! When are you arriving? Have you already secured your flights? We have friends that just moved to Barcelona a couple months ago, so we will be spending some time with them while we are there, but I am just looking to relax a bit too so we can adjust to the time difference to be ready for the cruise!

We aren't arriving until early morning on the 6th so we are only there for one night but we plan to just hang around the hotel before the cruise to help adjust to time and relax after the long flight. We are staying there (same hotel) a night on the way home too and that day we plan to explore the city.

That's great that you will be staying after the cruise as well. Will will be getting there around lunch time on the 5th and have the same plans...relax and get adjusted. Trying to coordinate flights for the way home was a challenge, but we have to get home right after the cruise so staying another night wasn't an option :sad1:

Does anyone have any suggestions to keep DD10 and DD7 happy during a long flight from PA to Barcelona? I just realized that it was going to be a 12 hour flight! I am not prepared.

Any ideas would be great!

Thanks,

Geri

We travel a lot and have been to Hawaii (from PA) twice in the past four years. Longest flight was about 8.5 hours but kids did well - especially the oldest (she's 11). The five (now six) year old did very well too but had to be kept busier. Nintendo DS, movies they watched on my laptop (get an airplane charger if you are near an outlet - check out a seat mapping website to find out), books, coloring books, snacks, and we bring some surprises in a carryon. Just little stuff from the Target dollar area and the like to keep them busier. On flight home, I show them video of the trip on the camera, photos on the regular camera as an additional fun thing. Our kids are just good travelers overall - always have been -- so we are very lucky.

That's good news. We have done the same thing when flying to other places. So, I hope it works on this long flight. I am going to start gathering games, books, and goodies.

Thanks!

Had a lovely surprise today- a letter from DCL telling us we are to get $100 OBC per person!! Anyone else had a letter? We booked in 2008 so it may be for early booking.:banana::banana:

We got it a few months ago. I thought it was basically because they were having trouble selling out this sailing and they were going to drop the price so to make sure that folks like us who booked early didn't cancel...

Wow! Thanks for the tip. I will contact my TA and ask him for the $100 credit.

We also booked the first day the cruise became available and received word about the $100/person OBC a couple months ago.

We also booked on the first day but it takes Disney a little longer to get to us in the UK. However, we did get a FedEx delivery today with a little brochure from DCL, Makes it seem all the more closer!

Good Morning.

We are new to this cruise board but have cruise with Disney before and been on the board for those cruises. My sister and I are taking her 4 kids and #5 kid our dad, on this cruise we have 2 cat 10 cabins (all we can afford) but we are paid!!!!

Seven of us are going to Barcelona! need to read the first 21 pages and catch up. Do you think my 8th graders would notice if I gave them an assignment and read! ok can't do that.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Susan

I just spent my lunch reading all 21 pages of this thread. Never done Disney Europe but did do RCCL Eastern Med last summer with my husband and kids. This time I got invited as organizer for my dad and sister. I'll take a trip any way I can.

Our group has 2 cat 10 rooms on deck 2. We were originally scheduled on the Aug 17 sailing but I have to get back to teach school so I changed it.

We are a big group of 7

Dad, Jim, senior citizen and me over 40 are from Washington state. My sister is 2 years younger and has 4 kids, DS 12, DD 10, DD 8, DS 6. Husband won't go so I get to!

We plan on taking lots of excusions but DD8 and DS 6 said they wanted to stay in the kids club. Two years ago 21 of us took a christmas cruise on Disney and that's when Dad booked this trip.

We want to do FEE. My sister is quite a sewer and I will set her up to make 2!

Welcome Aboard! :cool1: I am traveling with children similar in age DS 9 and DS 7. I also traveled with a large group a couple years ago on the Wonder. There were also 21 of us...so much fun!

It is probably time to start organizing the Fish Extender Exchange. I have never organized one before but would be willing to take on the task. We should start to gather the names and room numbers so we can see how many people are participating. I also need to think about making one!

This is a quiet thread. Getting ready for work. I work weekdays as an 8th grade teacher in Redmond, WA and weekends at a scrapbook store is Issaquah. Gotta pay for my travel habit some how.

My husband and kids (mine are a junior in HS and a sophomore in college) are so jealous. They love Disney cruises.

I am taking 60 students and parents to China next month over spring break (taking hubby on that trip) and 20 kids to Wash DC/NYC in June.

Susan

PS thanks to everyone - after reading all 21 pages of this thread (and getting some ideas) I called the travel agent and said I needed more in room credits then the $200 I got for our 2 cat 10 rooms. She dug arund and got right back to me with $1100 in credits - now that is a difference!

for those that are checking where everyone is from. My sister / kids live in Fredericksburg, VA and Dad in Eastern WA, I'm in Western WA.

Don't know if anyone is interested, but this is a good guide to Barcelona which we used when we sailed on the Magic in 2007. Good link to the Cruise Terminal as well (see under Transport Main Index & then click on Barcelona Cruise Port terminal.
There are 7 of us travelling (2 families) and have managed to get a good apartment close to the Sagrada Familia. Spending 3 nights in Barcelona before the cruise so we can see more of Barcelona as last time we only had 1 day to explore. :cool1:
