August 25, 2012 Magic in NYC!!!!

Brenda, are you having any reservations about the Wild Africa Trek, given the illness they are investigating?

http://vitals.nbcnews.com/_news/201...ness-sickens-disney-africa-trek-visitors?lite

Hubby pointed this out to me, and is now having second thoughts. I told him to buck it up and just wash his hands before and after, but he is concerned since we stay on for the 5-night Canada immediately after.

Regardless, can you tell me more about how you saved the $$? Something through Disney Visa, maybe? thanks! Jodie

Freaky! The good news is that it seems to be stomach related, and those are rarely airbourne. Just make sure you wash your hands before you eat the catered snack!

Yeah I read about it.
There's been investigatons by the health officials and Disney. No source as of yet, and no new outbreaks in recent weeks.

Disney is taking extra precautions and I'm sure they don't want an outbreak on their ships .:crazy2:

If we get sick (which is extremely unlikely), I'll look on the positive side - a few days house arrest in our 1 bedroom suite. Room service from the main restaurants for all meals, major compensation from Disney for making me ill:rolleyes1, getting back to my precruise weight.

So No problem for us. I'm trying to get an ADR before the tour, but no luck so far with this late decision to go to the AK.

As for the price DCL is charging $189 pp for the early morning Africa Trek tours.
Disney World is charging only $148 pp for any tour from 11.45am or later. That saves me $123 total for our party of 3. No discount code needed. The offer is valid for tours up until Sep 22nd. You can call them direct, the number is on the Africa trek website.

I want to be in MK for the 8am rope drop Early Magic Hour. Do all my rides, get FPs for the evening, the head out to the AK for the 2pm tour which end when the park closes at 5pm.
Hopefully we'll have some energy to come back to MK for the rest of the night until the second to last bus returns back to the ship.

Brenda

FYI Fast passes for the evening won't work. SInce March of this year WDW is enforcing the times on the Fast Passes. So adjust your riding accordingly.

MK has extra magic hours the day we're there so it opens at 8AM. We're treated just like resort guests so we can take advantage of EMH.

Thanks for that.

Next question now....would anyone be kind enough to explain the fast passes for me?

I've been to WDW before but the last time was when I was about 16. I won't tell you how long ago that was!!! ; ) I think things have probably changed a bit since then though!

Thanks for that.

A FP is basically the computer holding your place on line. You put your park ticket into the machine and it spits out a time for you to come back and get priority entrance into the attraction.

Here's the disney page that explains all things fast pass

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/guest-services/fast-pass/

It explains how it works and even which rides in each park is included.

When would we know? Not being familiar with the port, can we just tell the cab driver pier 88 and adjust easily as we approach?

Just let the cab driver know that you're geting on the Disney Magic at the port.
As you drive up you will see the signs and the ship, plus the port workers will ask your driver which ship and direct you to the correct terminal. If it's not 88 the day we get on, the cab will just have to drive on a little further to the higher numbers.

I know, that sucks. I remember the days when we use to use old fast passes from previous visits.
I was hoping that maybe as we are leaving MK, the fast pass return time for Space mountain would be for a late time after 6pm or so :confused3.
Otherwise seeing how hectic our day will be we'll just visit the sit down shows and relax.

TY. DH has been worrying about this!

Re: fastpass. If you go after noon, you just may get a 6 pm return for space mountain. If not, hand it to someone on the way out and make a magical moment for them

It won't really matter that much, you'll see the ship as you approach and they are right next to each other. If you're parking you need to pull into the same area to get to either ship as well if you're being dropped off...shouldn't be much of a problem.

We're on this cruise.

Question for anyone that may know: Do the shuttles from port to the parks have storage for strollers? We're thinking of bringing our own rather than having to rent from the parks, just because it will be a lot easier.

Since we have adjoining rooms (there are 5 of us), I'm not really concerned about not having any place to store them onboard - just mostly want to make sure there's some kind of luggage area on the buses to stow them.

Thanks!

They should have storage, yes

Would like to know how many people will attend..please try to let me know if you can make it by August 12th....
We are going to be in Tarrytown, but not on The 19th - to bad, We wont get in until the day before the cruise. WE are staying at the Marriot there, cheap, 119 bucks. I am still working on how to get to Pier 88 from there. I hear a cab is over a 100 bucks, and the train goes to 10 mins from port then a short cab ride - not sure I want to da that either. Any suggestions? I will even pay somebody to drive us down there if you know anybody willing?

Thanks

TS

You don't have a lot of options from Tarrytown if you don't have ride. Like you said, a cab will be pricey.

A one way off peak Metro North ticket is $9.00 (4.50 for kids). If you don't want to take a taxi once you get to Grand Central, you can walk up to 49th street and take the M50 bus which will take you right to 12th avenue and 49th street.

It's really a matter of how much you want to spend vs. how much hassle you want to deal with. The railroad is pretty easy though.

Random question: Are we definitely leaving from Pier 88? I thought there would be something in the cruise documents, but I'm not seeing it? :confused3

We left from Pier 88 when I went in June. I've heard it can be either 88 or 90.

When would we know? Not being familiar with the port, can we just tell the cab driver pier 88 and adjust easily as we approach?

I only just saw your question, but I found the answer in our cruise documents! Right before the "Vacation Checklist" section, on the very bottom of the "Table of Contents" page, it says:

Please note that, for your voyage, the Disney Magic will be departing from Pier 88.

Thanks everyone for the answers about fast passes. Picking up lots of useful info ready for our trip!

OMG thank you! Could they have made that print any smaller?

Like the PP said there aren't many options besides Metro North Railroad or a car service. I know Carmel Limo charges $60-70 from White Plains which is close to Tarrytown. I used then to go from Manhattan to White Plains Airport last year.

Hello Does anyone have room in their FE? I am late on this and would hate for my sons to miss out.
Pls let me know.
I am new to this!!! Thanks :flower3:
