August 25, 2012 Magic in NYC!!!!

Despite good intentions not to wait until last minute to pack, I ultimately will be up packing the night before as well.

I am a crazy Type A planner, and I have packing lists for myself and my son if they would help you at all. Yes, our whole trip has a its own Microsoft OneNote. My skills as a project manager are coming in handy for this...

I AM SUCH A GEEK :teacher:

Thanks. But I'm good. This is not our first rodeo. Having lists are good, however my issue is having time to implement the list.

One month  (and again, that funky dancing banana makes me happy).

So now that I have the kid back, I can make my shopping list for him. He came back from camp with all his underwear (and only his!), socks were a mixed bag, but he has plenty for the cruise. Shorts & T's OK (althogh he came home with paint on almost all of his shirts, but no arts and crafts projects :confused3). It looks like all I have to get for him is a pair of khaki's, maybe a couple of dressy casual shirts and a pair of sunglasses and he is ready to cruise. DD definitely set, DH is OK (suit has to be dry cleaned), and as soon as I get a new pair of spanx, I think I am ready.

I've already packed up the paperwork & passports, and I am working on my med kit, my plan being that the last week all I have to do is laundry and getting the clothes in the suit case (but what is that saying, Man Plans, God Laughs?!).

I managed to get all the Fish extender gifts made and packed on Saturday. I'm so pleased.:cool1: Got DD15 to help out, she found it interesting thank goodness.
I'm carrying the gifts in a box as part of my carry on. I don't want anything broken or disappointments.
Now for laundry and to repack.

Placed DD birth certificate in my hand bag. Passport will expire soon and I want to wait until her 16th birthday to apply for a 10yr one.

I'm still trying to plan out our WDW day, but definately will be on that 6.30 am bus for Magic Kingdom's EMH. DH doesn't know yet that there are later buses.

Also after realizing on our 2 night cruise out of NYC how relaxing our day is to have late dining, we've switched from early to late. So :wizard:early dining for some family on the wait list.

Wow. You are too ahead of the game. I need to repace my air conditioning and get through work for the next month. Packing is not even a thought. We havent done FE's yet. I did buy dresses for formal night. The that everyone voted for me to keep needs alterations. Dont know when i will get around to that. Keeping 2nd dress just in case I dont. Still need to buy strappy shoes as well

I am very impressed with those of you who are already shopping and packing :thumbsup2

I am definitely in the camp of having to find the time to get packing done, not even thinking about packing for the cruise yet --I have a trip next week that I haven't packed for ;)

Somehow it will get done (although, I am sure I will overpack because of it ;))

Happy planning ...Jeannine :goodvibes

Hear you on the late dining. On our last cruise we had late dining because we had no choice, but we found (as you did) that it was so much more relaxing (and that was with a 7 year old).

OK, if my air conditioning was spotty, I wouldn't be worrying about packing either! Especially since we are heading into yet ANOTHER heat wave. Work for me is absolutely insane. Part of the reason I am trying to be so organized is because I know I can't take much time off.

To each his own, right?! :goodvibes

In all honestly, it makes me happy to plan and stay ahead of the game. I worked for a woman who couldn't take something out of the freezer in the morning for dinner, because she might change her mind before the end of the day. Needless to say, sometimes we had a hard time understanding each other!

Regardless, we will all be on the boat on 8/25, and know that if you forget, I will have imodium/benedryl/bactine wipes!

U r 2 funny. My a/c is more than spotty. It's gone. Need to replace it. So far lucky. Cooler at night and fans. May have to splurge for some window units to getvus through

Just changed to late seating as well....:cool1:...kids will just have to deal with snacking before dinner...LOL...:rotfl2:...what am I worried about...my 4 year old dd is sitting next to me right now wide awake (it's 11:41pm)...she is a party animal...

Might be a silly question but with the buses leaving so early to WDW are the parks open that early? Didn't think they we're open until 9am - or are we allowed in earlier?

We're planning on going to MK as DH & both my DD's have never been before. Think they'll be more than enough to keep them occupied in the one park for the day!

MK has extra magic hours the day we're there so it opens at 8AM. We're treated just like resort guests so we can take advantage of EMH.

Dine & Play is your friend! We also found that the "all hands on deck" cheese platter from room service was a great "pre-show-getting-ready-for-evening" snack (and went great with Mommy's glass of wine :thumbsup2), although we had to start ordering 2 because the kids would eat it all!

Random question: Are we definitely leaving from Pier 88? I thought there would be something in the cruise documents, but I'm not seeing it? :confused3

We left from Pier 88 when I went in June. I've heard it can be either 88 or 90.

Just booked the Africa Trek with Disney.
I decided that we need to tour MK first, then we'll transfer over to AK and do the 2pm Trek. Disney has a special discount of $50 per person, so that saved us a bunch of money over the DCL tour. AK closes at 5pm on August 30th, so that will give us plenty of time to return back to MK for the parade and Wishes, if we can last that long.

Brenda, are you having any reservations about the Wild Africa Trek, given the illness they are investigating?

Hubby pointed this out to me, and is now having second thoughts. I told him to buck it up and just wash his hands before and after, but he is concerned since we stay on for the 5-night Canada immediately after.

Regardless, can you tell me more about how you saved the $$? Something through Disney Visa, maybe? thanks! Jodie

Yeah I read about it.
There's been investigatons by the health officials and Disney. No source as of yet, and no new outbreaks in recent weeks.

Disney is taking extra precautions and I'm sure they don't want an outbreak on their ships .:crazy2:

If we get sick (which is extremely unlikely), I'll look on the positive side - a few days house arrest in our 1 bedroom suite. Room service from the main restaurants for all meals, major compensation from Disney for making me ill:rolleyes1, getting back to my precruise weight.

So No problem for us. I'm trying to get an ADR before the tour, but no luck so far with this late decision to go to the AK.

As for the price DCL is charging $189 pp for the early morning Africa Trek tours.
Disney World is charging only $148 pp for any tour from 11.45am or later. That saves me $123 total for our party of 3. No discount code needed. The offer is valid for tours up until Sep 22nd. You can call them direct, the number is on the Africa trek website.

I want to be in MK for the 8am rope drop Early Magic Hour. Do all my rides, get FPs for the evening, the head out to the AK for the 2pm tour which end when the park closes at 5pm.
Hopefully we'll have some energy to come back to MK for the rest of the night until the second to last bus returns back to the ship.
