August 22nd 2009 Western Carribbean Anyone?

Glad to see everyone posting again.

This past week was just awful - everyone I know is in shell shock with the stock market. Someone (much younger than me) asked what I was doing for halloween. I said I can't even think beyond tomorrow, let alone the end of the month.

Very sad.

I actually feel bad for DCL that they released the itineraries/pricing for the European cruises during the worst bear market in history.

At some point in the future, a Baltic cruise would be interestng, but not now and not at DCL prices.

I know the pricing for the TA cruises are good, but we just couldn't cope for all those consecutive sea days. Its why we never were interested in the repo cruises.

It will be very interesting to see how the bookings for these cruises goes. I suspect people will book and then cancel later on. So I suspect you will see DCL start to discount these cruises as it gets closer to the sailing dates.

I hope everyone is coping with the big losses in the stock market. And hopefully we're reaching a bottom here or will do so sometime in the near future and things start to rebound. The only silver lining is the big drop in oil prices. That's some comfort particularly with winter around the corner.

Oh, forgot to mention. We've been really sick with colds lately. The kids always get sick in September - back to school germs. But this time I got sick as well. In bed for five days. Sinus and sore throat.

Same here. I am very rarely ill, maybe a cold every 3 or 4 years, just had 3rd illness this year, Karen got it last week, Matt has it now.:confused3

As for finances:scared1: You know we travel a lot, 3 or 4 times to US a year, couple of weekends in The Netherlands, a week in Europe a year. Next year was planning Alaskan cruise. Not now, as it stands it will be the one trip next August, 25 nights incl the cruise, dare not book anything else, thankfully I only hold a little money in 2 bank stocks but everything is down.:sad1:

Hopefully I can inject a little cheer into this thread...it seems to have taken on a more somber tone!

I lurk on the DisBoards once in a while, but tend to be overwhelmed. ;) After finding this thread, though, I thought I'd finally sign up and say hello! I'm getting married this summer and will be honeymooning aboard the Disney Magic with you! This will be FH's and my very first cruise - and our very first Disney Cruise - so I look forward to learning the lay of the land beforehand from all of you.

10 months and counting...!

Welcome to our cruise and welcome to DIS.
Have you read thru the full thread? will take a while if not.

I got quote for 12 night Baltic. $12,123. over $1,000/day:scared1:(for 3 of us) Can't believe Disney are going to sell these cruises. Good luck to them, I won't be paying it.

I booked one of the 11 night Med cruises yesterday. I was fortunate to get two secret porthole cabins so I am happy. It is a lot of money. This cruise is so cheap compared to the Med cruise. I am just hoping that airfare does not double the cost of the Med cruise or we will not be going.

Airfares are just getting silly, hope you find a good price.
I looked at the 11 night cat 10 for 3 of us $7,343, which is more than we are paying for next August for our whole trip incl flights, hotel, car rental with Insurance, 7 night cruise, total of 25 nights.
I actually booked our flights yesterday as it stands now we are flying Business class into Tampa, there is an error on Expedia allowing to book them for price of economy. Time will tell if we get them.

Welcome, welcome & welcome!!!! What glorious news. This is going to be such a great cruise.

Yes, we've been a little somber lately, which is extremely uncharacteristic of us and we must rectify that behavior immediately!!!!!

DH & I are celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary on this cruise.

And there's nothing like looking at the 2010 cruise prices to make us realize we've got a great deal on this cruise.

And I'm totally rooting for the Phillies in tonight's game!!!! Can you say "HELLO WORLD SERIES!!!!".

I read through a few days ago when I first saw the thread...what a fun group! I'm not sure that we're the magnets and special gift pouches type, but feel free to look for us on board. Did I see a list someone's keeping of everyone who wil be on the ship? I'm happy to add our names to that list. Either way, feel free to look out for a couple of slightly awed, very happy people wearing the bride and groom ears on deck two :)

The well-wishes and welcomes are much appreciated...Ski-and-Sea, how great for you, as well! Hopefully I'll be celebrating my own 20th anniversary with Disney before long.

Incidentally, did I see you're from Jersey? I think I grew up not far from where you are...my family is originally from Middlesex County.

Is it bad of me that I've been watching the debate instead of the game? We seem to be on our anyway....WORLD SERIES, HERE COME THE PHILS (i hope)!

Yes I have a list on my website, anyone that wants adding have a look at www.astersflorist.co.uk its the bottom link on left then post any info you want on.

This cruise is to celebrate our 20th Anniversay also. 20 years goes so fast.

ok guys...so its 10 months until the cruise..probably a bit early to charge up the walkie talkies...but definatly early enough to get organised!

So...who wants to play Dis Tag ( no outlay required)! Or participate in Dis gifting via fish extenders? A Dis meet? Group martini flights...or beer..Palo high tea? Anything else anyone has done, or fancies doing? Dis green lays...or wristbands...or anything else? T-shirts? We are open to anything...and looking at the prices for the 2010 cruises..this may be our last for a while...so we want to do it right..:cool1:

So...answers on a postcard please.....I'll be waiting:lovestruc

In English, please ;) As you'll note on your left, I'm still earning my ears (even if the dog already has his!). I read about the fish extenders, I think...don't know if I'm up to making one of those...and I know about the lime green..but that's it!

Incidentally, for the sake of our little website...I'm Heather, and FH is Colin. We're from outside Philadelphia and are in cabin 2588!

Hey everyone. Count us in! Now, that I am done redoing the kitchen and ditning room I can start thinking about the cruise again.

I did buy something to make for the fish extenders but, I still need to work on them.

We watched the disney cruise show again. I am looking forward to it.
The kids really want to go snorkling again. Erik wants to visit some Mayan ruins. I don't really care. I will be hitting Margaritaville, though.

we have never been to Margaritaville....not even in citywalk. Philistines or what..:lmao: I hear they sell alcohol...would that be correct? We have been in sloppy joes though...they also sell alcohol. Any thoughts on the best place to get a sundowner on Key West. :drinking1

:rotfl2: You like to be organised Maria.
We will participate in Dis tag definitely, hope its as much fun as it was on 2005 cruise. I just cant think much about next year yet, still 2 trips this year to do. We leave next Thursday for 8 nights.
Heather, Distag is a little game where you exchange gifts usually something related to your local area or work. Can be as little as a 10cents postcard of Philly or like last time we had someone playing that worked at Disney store so she brought pins & other stuff. No-one cares what you bring its just a bit of fun, helps if you have fish extenders for people to leave the gifts in but not essential, we didn't have one last time.

Updated the site if you check its all correct.
Anyone else want adding let me know:thumbsup2

We have never been into a Margaritaville either and we stayed right next to one in Vegas at The Flamingo, actually a Parrott head meeting the weekend we were there, Craaaazy people!!!!:rotfl2: We rarely drink but with $300 OBC this cruise we might have to.

Sounds like fun...I have an idea that might give you all a little taste of Philly ;) (Sadly, I don't think cheesesteaks will fit in our luggage, though...)

Thanks!!

Since this is our first time out on a cruise...any must-dos besides the obvious? Recommends for the best night of the cruise to do brunch or dinner at Palo? Good spa treatments to check out? The best shore excursions? We really want to see some Mayan ruins in Cozumel and do some snorkeling somewhere (veteran DCL friends have recommended Stingray City in Grand Cayman). We were thinking abut maybe parasailing at Castaway Cay...thinking about the honeymoon is definitely helping us get through wedding planning!

well if your havin trouble there Wayne, DH and I will be more than happy to help...lol

:rotfl:
Matt is wanting me to book the fishing at Castaway Cay again, we really enjoyed it last time. That would use most of the OBC. I think its around $100 each.
