August 2016 Car Rental Rate watch

4 days to go and never got a better rate than what I've been holding for months. I'll still keep checking up until Tuesday morning.

FYI, finally significant downward movement in pricing on Alamo for the first time in months with Costco booking.

My new rental price is $8 higher than my other reservation, but because of the $20 Costco cash card we come out $12 ahead.

Thought this might be helpful for those who already had a reasonable reservation but might want the cash card, orfor those who have only seen the crazy high prices.

Good luck everyone!

I was going to go with the $133 midsize that I got at least a couple moths ago, but when Alamo dropped the luxury to $233 last week I couldn't pass it up. I drive a Honda Civic (midsize to Alamo)...
For $100 more, I'm going for the Luxury.

I am still holding at 448 for a fullsize and 437 for a standard, August 16-31 with Alamo. This is about $200 more than I have paid in the past. Was hoping to see rates go down, but I have only seen them go up! In the past, I have been able to slowly get the rate down checking each day and actually have booked the best rate just as we were walking out the door to the airport once! Fingers crossed this year, but I'm not very hopeful!

The best I was able to get was $208.00 for a standard from 8-6 to 8-12. The trip being six days away, I doubt prices will drop any further.

The best I got was $164 for 6 days at Alamo for a full size picking up at TPA and dropping off at the Dolphin. I used the coupon code, discount code and the AS1 code. Hope they don't give me a problem with the AS1 code. Picking up on 8/21.

Still my Alamo $230 for 10 days seems to be best I'm going to do :sad1:. 2 days to go and they're still up in the $400's ugh.

These are my continued crazy prices for 8/20 - 9/5 at MCO:

Makes me glad, yet nervous, about my AS1 coded reservation for a minivan for $455........

Leave tomorrow, so I'm done watching.....(ok I'll take a peek later). Ended up with $304 with National Executive Aisle (guaranteed full size or larger) for 9 days. The current rate is $140 more right now. I could've taken Alamo for a full size car for $255, but stayed with National to get the credits for both my executive status next year and another free day coupon. Last year we had National for $200 for 7 nights, exact same week.

On a different note, my October rental for 16 days (15-31) has gone through the roof. I have $522 which was booked on the now ended sunpromo code and 2 free days coupons. I thought that was very high, but now it doesn't look too bad.

Have fun on your trip n2mm! It's been fun watching prices along with ya' over the past months, lol.

After I get back on Sept. 5th from mine, I have 3 weeks to keep watching prices until I head back for two more weeks 9/24 - 10/8, Lol.

Good luck and hope the rates finally start getting better for you later August folks. Para0x, if you haven't joined the October rental page, I'll see you there. Maybe we'll have better luck then, but looking at them now, they have a long way to go.....that trip is Oct. 15-31! (with a 4 night cruise in the middle)

Safe travels to all.

So surprised the rental companies are charging so much more then last year. I am sure there are more people forgoing a rental due to the high prices. Maybe they are doing some kind of test to see how many people don't rent due to higher prices.

yep and we may not be going to orlando now. I should type that airfares are super high into tampa, orlando and even DB. And we all know how $$ hotels and food and Tix to WDW are. :(

If it doesn't change, we're going to just visit another state.

Is there an October thread up and running yet? I tried doing a search and only pulled this thread somehow--could definitely be "user error" but if someone could link the October/November thread I would greatly appreciate it!
