august 2013 codes for rental cars?

If I enter both a promo code and our CAA corporate code, I only get the AAA rates displaying (no city special rates). It appears, on my system anyway, that the CAA/AAA corporate code will override the promo code.

Same here.....the city rates come up a few dollars cheaper than AAA and if I put in both codes I still get the higher AAA rates.

Just booked at Dollar this morning, on their web page, it had special florida rates. Base weekly rate was $97 for a mid size. My 10 day rental all-in was $208 (Aug 12-22). I am ok with that, considering!

Gah.. my 4 day, weekday (no weekend stay) is killing me!! And I really need something big enough to haul an ECV around. I have a mid-size SUV reserved using the KLM code for around $200 but there is no way I want to pay that much (on top of $60 in parking fees at the Dolphin).

What is crazy is two years ago for the exact same trip (same week, 4 days, same car class...) I paid a mere $16 a day :(

My BJ's discount gave me a full size with Budget for $232
Costco was much higher!!!!!

Thanks to this board I plugged in the 5c11m Dollar city code and the full size was $212. Now after three tries my AAA code ended up lower. It was not necessary to plug in both city & AAA.

Dollar....AAA rate.....full size......7/28 to 8/4.........$192.95 complete (mid size was $12 less)

Guess these rates are still bouncing around:

Enterprise: Going up. Yesterday booked a Standard for $106.02 base, $158.40 total (with Costco upgrade CSTCUPG). This morning that is showing as $129.92/$186.40.

Dollar: Continues to drop. Yesterday was $120.27/$178.05 for a midsize, this morning $96.48/$150.18 (City special)

Alamo: Still $400+ with no coupons/codes. If they're that high, no code is going to help.

One other quick observation: Dollar seems to let you modify your existing reservation at the lower rate. When I've done that with Enterprise, it showed all the other car classes at a lower rate except the one you already reserved (shows the same rate). When I redid the Enterprise reservation yesterday, I had to create a new reservation, then go back and cancel the old one.

Below is the Dollar pricing for my dates (8/3 10:30am - 8/12 6pm, a full 10-day rental) over the last three days. I expect to stick with National or Alamo, but this downward movement is good to see!

(Also, somebody mentioned the 5C11M is the "City" code. I just want to point out that it is not. You only get City codes if you do not enter *any* codes - promo, corporate, etc. - and click on the city rate button in the list of available cars. For my dates, 5C11M produces slightly lower rates than City Specials. For others, they were about a penny higher, and I think for some, are actually higher. Everyone should try it both ways to see which is better for their dates.)

From 7/17:
Dollar.....City.......5C11M

TYSM Brett! I re-booked my Alamo ressie of $389.92 (which I cancelled), and now with the Visa code, am at $286.52! I can't believe the rates have dropped so much since I started looking several months ago. :thumbsup2

:goodvibes

I just reran your dates and my dates for Alamo - yours stayed the same. Mine went from $217.58 (yesterday, which I booked) to $270.65. Crazy!

Dollar, however, seems to have dropped for your dates. Are you willing to use them? The savings on a Fullsize is only about $25 - I'd stick with Alamo or National for $25. (5C11M produced higher rates than the City Specials.)

Rate..........City Special
Midsize:.....$248.44
Standard:...n/a
Fullsize:.....$261.08

Brett....Is there anything wrong with Dollar. Rates are all over the map with my BJ's and Costco promos. The best I have is BJ's Budget at $232 or AAA Dollar at $192..........I usually book with Alamo but they are much higher as well.

Can someone say something good about Dollar????

We have used Dollar in Orlando the past several years as well as in Tampa this past Feb. with no problems at all. Love their rates!

Thanks.....I just checked the Dollar/MCO reviews and they were "so-so"/mixed.
Just to play safe I returned to the BJ's site.....no bargains. So I then returned to the Costco site and Enterprise was lit up in RED!!!!
I just booked Enterprise with a full size for $163 (the premium was $207.) The best previous price was the Dollar AAA for $192.......when I first started months ago the price was well over $350!!!!

Still undecided on what we are going to do.

Dollar's customer service department informed me by phone this morning that we can't use the CAA discount for our rental as the CAA coverage is in my name, while DH is going to be the driver of the rental. The two must match (DH doesn't need CAA as he drives a new vehicle that has roadside assistance as part of the warranty).

That leaves us with two choices:

A full size with Dollar using their City Special rate for a total of $167.92 after taxes and fees

A midsize SUV with National using the KLM code + a $30 entertainment book coupon, for a total of $245.52 after taxes and fees

The difference is $77.60.

We would get a free additional driver with National (we are Emerald Club members) and a bigger vehicle that we are more familiar with (our primary vehicle at home is a Dodge Journey). My guys are big fellas (DH is 6'4" and 280 pounds, DS is 6' and 185 pounds) so the extra room in the SUV would be appreciated.

Dollar is cheaper. And mama loves saving money. But Dollar seems to have a more negative reputation (or perhaps I am just getting wigged out by reading about supercharges for missed tolls or scamming folks by adding extra insurances that the customer didn't agree to).

DH is worried that the full size, if we don't get an Impala, wouldn't hold all of our luggage comfortably. Dollar's website lists a full size as a "Nissan Altima or similar". So there's no guarantee on the make of the car and from what I understand, Dollar assigns you a vehicle (you don't get to pick).

Unless I am mistaken, with National, we would have our pick from whatever is available in the midsize SUV section when we arrive.

Dollar has the best price, but it sure seems like National has everything else going for it.

The indecision is driving me nutty! :scared:

Any experiences with Enterprise at MCO?

Full size (like an Altima) is $163 and Premium (like a Maxima) is $207 or a $44 difference......Does it make more sense to stick with the full and see if they upgrade me at the counter?

Hi Marty,

It depends on what size car you need. You can certainly upgrade yourself at the counter, but in my opinion I would never hope to score a free upgrade as part of my strategy. Good luck!

I just booked Alamo for 14 days
Aug 14th to 28th
insider's discount of 10%
free upgrade midsize to standard car
total: $332.16

This is the best price I have come across so far. Last year I got a fullsize car with Alamo for $293 for two weeks which of course is a better deal but I can live with the $332......I will continue to check back just in case.

That is good....i just did my dates...8/15 am to 8/27 pm 13 days with Alamo insider and was told my dates were not eligible for the free upgarde. Total cost $380 for mid:confused3

But i just got a Dollar standard for $302 total...so that is great! Keeping my National just in case, but $100 is a big differance! Thanks!

Did you try the visa coupon code AD2338FDF for $30 off?
I have 15 days (aug 31/sept14), booked standard for $277
My understanding is that mco has a combined row for standard and full size cars - you can take either if you book a standard.

I quickly put in your dates (noon to noon) and used the coupon w/ Alamo insiders and come up with $310.21 for a standard car. Didn't do any upgrade coupon.

I researched that coupon code on the VISA site and it says:

Sorry! The offer you are trying to find has expired.

Please see other great discounts from your selected merchant and other merchants on the page below.

So I am not sure it would be valid. There are other visa coupons there for $15 off but not for the $30 off. This gets me the standard car for $343. I think I'll keep the $332 but thanks. :)
