august 2013 codes for rental cars?

I cant get that coupon to work for me either. I dont know how a longer rental got you a cheaper rate? Did you get a upgrade coupon via email? I did but it expires on 7/31. I would prefer Alamo over Dollar....but $398 it too much....

I researched that coupon code on the VISA site and it says:

Sorry! The offer you are trying to find has expired.

Please see other great discounts from your selected merchant and other merchants on the page below.

So I am not sure it would be valid. There are other visa coupons there for $15 off but not for the $30 off. This gets me the standard car for $343. I think I'll keep the $332 but thanks. :)

AD2338FDF works for me. Make sure you remove the space after it if you copy and paste, and it will work. No physical coupon required, but you do need to use a VISA credit card to pay for it.

I got this from themouseforless.com, and it is valid:

Receive $30 off you next 5 day or longer rental with Alamo when you pay with your Visa Card. Use Alamo coupon code AD2338FDF. Valid for rentals through December 31, 2013.

Wow, my dates at Alamo dropped like a rock today, almost $100 less than yesterday.
using insider and the Visa code I am at $200.11 for 1 week and 2 days. Crazy!! I prefer National, but the rate I have currently there is $73 higher (that is for midsize with Aisle service, Alamo is full size).
Is it worth paying $73 more for a chance at something bigger in the Aisle? We don't land until 11:30 on a Friday night.

I truly believe Alamo hates me this trip ::yes:: .

For my dates and times (p/u Aug 23 @ 7 pm, drop at 10:30 am on Aug 31), using the Insiders Discount and the $30 Visa coupon:

a full size is $452.70 (my Dollar reservation is $167)

a mid size SUV is $532.22 (my National reservation is $245)

Every time I look, they seem to be a little worse :faint: . Not holding out much hope for them at this point!!

I pick up on the 9th, and mine went down $100 since yesterday, so there may still be hope. I really prefer National, never used Alamo, but I am at $273 there for a midsize.
Do you have to use the kiosk/counter for Alamo, and do they assign you a car??

We have always used the counter for Alamo, just because we were rental newbies on our first two trips (where we used Alamo both times) and going to the counter was we thought everyone had to do :confused3 . I do know that kiosks are available, just not sure how they work.

You do get to select whatever vehicle you want from the aisle of your reserved car type. We had a compact for our first trip, and got a Chevy HHR...which was not exactly luxurious, but I'm sure it was larger than a compact.

Me too! I still can't get less than $435.97. Picking up at MCO on Aug 15 230pm...dropping off MCO on Aug 29 at 230pm. Using Entertainment for just 5% off and the $30.00 VISA coupon. I have an Insider's number but is there a Contract ID number for that??

If you haven't checked Alamo prices in the last hour or two, recheck now!

All numbers below include the "Insiders discount" (no CID) and the VISA $30 coupon ( AD2338FDF ).

Note about the coupon: In addition to any spaces causing it to not work, I've gotten the occasional "coupon capacity reached" error - I think when I've tried to change CID with the coupon already applied. If I remove the coupon and then reenter it (along with a CID), it works fine. It does *not* get itemized on the totals page. But if you run it with and without, you'll see a (roughly) $30 increase on the "discount" line.

Question for Alamo pros: It sounds like you pick your own car just like National. If I'm an Insider, do I have to stop at the counter? And is Standard and Full Size really the same row/class for Alamo?

Right now 7/17/13 1:50pm EST:

Midsize: $172.14
Standard: 179.65
Fullsize: $187.21
Premium: $247.44

This morning, these rates were higher than yesterday's. And I got the $187.21 the 2nd time I tried just now - just a few minutes earlier, I thought it was closer to $200. (I checked the rate, saw it was lower and tried to modify my reservation to see if the lower price would be applied - it wasn't. When I went to book a new reservation, the $187.21 price came up.)

7/16/13 afternoon:
Midsize: 195.56
Standard: 211.09
Fullsize: 217.58

7/16/13 morning:
Mid....$270.65
Std....$289.52
Full....$298.98
Prem...$316.52
7/15/13:
Alamo.....AD2338FDF (Visa $30 coupon w/ Insider's Discount)
Mid....$301.66
Std....$316.72
Full....$331.79
Prem...$354.26

I'm in agreement. My trip is coming up on 8/4 and the rate difference between Alamo and Dollar/Enterprise is almost exactly what you have. Put in some simulated earlier dates and Alamo does come down some, but would still be $75-$100 over the others. I'm willing to pay a little extra for Alamo, but not that...just have to keep looking.

A Budget tidbit...

In my fishing around for rates, an interesting thing at Budget. Usually the "pay it now" rate is a little less than the "pay at counter" (and if you read earlier posts of mine, you know how I hate pay it now rates, unless the trip is less than a week away). Anyway, for common car classes, the current "pay it now" is less than half of "pay at counter". For example, a midsize is $352 base pay at counter or $143 pay it now. This suggests to me that Budget has a lot of inventory and we may see a big sale from them soon (maybe a "Wendie's Special" coming down?).

And to perhaps extrapolate, if Budget has this big inventory, would it be safe to assume that the others do well? If that's the case, we could see a nice price war opening up at any time. I think we're going to really have to pay attention over the next couple of weeks (maybe a little longer for those of you in mid-late August).

I should also point out that my comments above apply to the very common car classes (Economy, Compact, Mid, Std, Full). Anything else, including minivans and SUV are showing their prepay price to still be about 90% of pay at counter. For the common classes, prepay is showing as under 50% of pay at counter....

Just another glimmer of hope...or I'm completely off my rocker.

UGHHH! :furious:

A full size is still sitting at $452 for our 8 day rental.

I will definitely have to keep my eye on this one. Right now, for my dates the pay now rate is only $29 cheaper than the pay later rate for a full size, but I'm late August (picking up August 23) so perhaps the big savings are still to come for me.

I will admit, though, after a dreadful Budget rental at Christmas, I'm not too anxious to try them again. :rolleyes1

Yet a savings is a savings is a savings ::yes:: .

If you log in as an Insider and use *no* CID, you'll get the "Insiders" discount. It will indicate that in the "My Rental Summary" box in the right column.

I get $431.07 for Midsize with the VISA code for your dates. Don't despair yet - a week ago, my rates (8/3-8/12) for Alamo were well over $300 for a 10-day rental and today they are below $200.

Congrats on the lower Alamo rates. They still don't work for me and I'm so close to your dates: in a day later, out a day earlier and my rates are about double yours...go figure.

On your counter question, you shouldn't have to stop at the counter, but I believe you need to go to the kiosk. Assuming you keep your Alamo reservation, check on it a day or so before you leave and you should be able to put in your driver's license, etc. (or maybe Insiders will take care of that for you), but when you get to MCO, just go to the kiosk with credit card and drivers license. It shouldn't take you more than a couple minutes.

Maybe I should edit my post to say "for early August dates." Sorry!

lol, no worries.....I am just a little high strung where my car rentals and vacations are concerned :rotfl: .

Ah heck, let's be honest. I'm just a little high strung, period. :)

What are your exact dates and times? I shifted my times (10:30am/6pm) one day to the left, 8/4-8/13 and got 173.83/181.73/187.21 for Mid/Std/Full just now on Alamo with AD2338FDF.

I did a little googling myself and it sounds like you don't even need to stop at the kiosk. Pick your car, give license, credit card, Insiders ID (or maybe a print-out of the reservation?) to the gate attendant. And it also sounds like Standard and Fullsize are the same row....

I'm in 8/4 at 4:30P, out 8/11 1:00P, so I'm 7 days as opposed to your 10. Interesting mine are so high.

That's nice if you don't have to bother with the kiosk at all. Maybe just do the whole checkin the day before?

You are correct: Standard and fullsize are the same row at MCO, so don't pay for a full

:goodvibes

I just reran your dates and my dates for Alamo - yours stayed the same. Mine went from $217.58 (yesterday, which I booked) to $270.65. Crazy!

Dollar, however, seems to have dropped for your dates. Are you willing to use them? The savings on a Fullsize is only about $25 - I'd stick with Alamo or National for $25. (5C11M produced higher rates than the City Specials.)

Rate..........City Special
Midsize:.....$248.44
Standard:...n/a
Fullsize:.....$261.08

Ran my dates thru Alamo again this afternoon ...rate is now $240.09 for a Standard (which translates to a Fullsize at MCO as I do not believe there is a "Standard" isle there). When I checked my ressie info from last year - I noticed that the lowest Alamo rate that I got was approx 3 weeks from our FL trip. This trend seems to be the same for this year as I am now approx 3 weeks from vacay. If I see more rate drops, that would be great. If not, I am happy with the $240. considering how high it was weeks ago.
