august 2013 codes for rental cars?

Our 3 day rental on dollar inched a little lower today too (Aug 29-31). It's now $13.86 per day (mid size) for a total just shy of $67 with taxes. Ebates gives 4% back on a portion of that as well. Enterprise through Costco is $83 total for a standard size. No one else is <$100.

Does anyone have a feeling how much less than $13.86/day you can get at MCO for a 3 day rental?

Thanks Brett - I will try again - my rental is 8/15 11 am to 8/27 5 pm...so that adds in more days...that may be the difference...

You had said a 12-day rental in a previous post, I think, which is why I did Noon-to-Noon. You've got a 13-day rental and that's definitely part of the difference.

Alamo ($30 Visa coupon AD2338FDF - it actually does work!)
Standard: $382.92
Midsize: $398.69
Fullsize: $437.87

Dollar (City Special)
Midsize: $363.65
Standard: $395.29
Fullsize: $399.13

I definitely prefer National personally, so, in descending order, I'd probably go with Emerald Aisle for $400, Alamo Standard for $383, then Dollar Midsize for $364.

I'd also try my Priceline lowball thing I described in a couple of earlier posts although that got very much worse recently. And current Alamo rates for my dates got better than the offer Priceline made me a week ago.

I'm now seeing Enterprise with some much better rates for early August. For my dates (8/4-11), with no codes, the rate for an intermediate is $156.88 base, $217.98 total, which is about $10 higher than the Dollar City Special I quoted yesterday. (And I'll be using a Costco code to bring it down to $145.90/$205.12, which is slightly better than the Dollar City Special)

Breaking news (for early August...4-11 in my case): Enterprise has had the second major drop for them today. Now my Standard, with a Costco upgrade, is base $106.02, total $158.40.

These are the kind of days that make car renting kinda fun. I totally did not expect to get anything this low for this trip.

FYI...if you're into Economy or Compact, the base rates for my dates are below the $100 level...of course, that really isn't much different than the standard.

And why Alamo still won't budge, I can't figure out...it just boggles my mind that the same car I can get from Enterprise for $158 is $359 at Alamo.

Without digging too far, the Dollar City Special for your dates is $125 base/$183 total for midsize/intermediate and $155/$218 full size. Full size isn't a huge difference, but midsize is fairly substantial.

Thanks.....I booked a full size using the Dollar code and it came to $212 for the week starting July 28th. That's $20 less than Budget using BJ's discount......Costco was higher.

Is there much difference between Dollar and Budget?
Guess I could save a little more by dropping down to an intermediate.

I'm so jealous seeing everyone's rates! We are renting for 9 days out of Seattle while we go on the Alaskan cruise. We have 6 people in our party, so I'm pretty sure we are going to need a suburban to fit everyone and the luggage.

Our rate is embarrassingly high, but for my immediate family we are still coming out ahead by flying into Seattle (gotta love SW points!) and driving to Vancouver rather than flying directly to Vancouver.

@Rich ...Are you using any specific codes for Enterprise? TIA

Only thing I'm using is an upgrade thru Costco. The different car classes are so tight, the coupon is only worth about five dollars, I think.

Do you get to pick your vehicle with Enterprise? (similar to Alamo?)

Or do they assign you a car? (similar to Budget?)

I am getting $180 taxes in for a full size using my Entertainment Book discount. That's getting might close to my Dollar reservation. Just wondering if Enterprise would have any additional perks that would make them a better choice over Dollar.

I plugged in my dates and used my BJ's membership number, which is supposed to give a "25% discount", and "free" upgrade. My quote for a Standard is $288 - with the upgrade will hopefully be a Full-size car. That's the lowest that I have so far...at 3 weeks from vacay.

The breakdown for 13 days, 8/6 10pm to 8/19 3:30 pm, MCO as of 7/16 is:

Enterprise: $287.74 for a Standard with "free upgrade" using BJ's membership

Alamo: $389.92 for a Standard using "Insiders" membership and MC code AF2604JDN for a "free day"

National: $408 for a car from the "Emerald Isle" using KLM code and EM club membership

I was hoping for less than $300 for a rental ...and finally found it with Enterprise. I hope we get a decent car from Enterprise....but still holding out for a lower rate from Alamo as we have had such great luck with rentals from them in the past.

I'm getting $286 52 for Alamo Standard with Alamo Insiders (no CID) and Visa $30 AD2338FDF coupon. (Do you have a Visa? I get $300.93 with your MC code.)

Just got a Dollar city special, down now to $340 ttl for two weeks from Aug 10-24. I had a standard for $20 less (ttl) but took the upgrade to a fullsize for another $10/wk. The City special was looking good, then I also clicked on AAA rate AND got a city special as well. First time I've managed to combine a city special with anything. That's $100 less than my KLM rate, and $50 less than a city special for a smaller car I found a week or two ago.

Moral of the story is, keep looking. I checked the city special earlier today and there was no movement. I will keep looking of course, but having it down to $170/wk for a nice car makes me much happier.

I'm trying to find this out too. I think they operate more like Alamo. They supposedly have a check in kiosk at MCO, then you go out to the garage and pick a car. Sounds much more like Alamo to me than Budget. I'd love to be able to confirm this...

I didn't think they would combine - did you look up and enter the appropriate AAA CD code (from the link right on the page) and still get a City Special to pop up? The first time I tried to check the AAA rate, I hadn't realized that I need to click the link for the listing, find the CD code for Mid-Atlantic AAA (my "chapter") and enter it myself....

Yep, I clicked AAA rates and the list had a city special link in it. Not sure why or how but I've got it...It actually looks like a lot of their rates are good right now, I checked a few of the ones on Mousesavers, and got much better rates than previously. (Though the one I got is still the best I can see.)

Now, I am going back in and trying to recreate this but not seeing the city special tag...but the rate is still there. :confused3: Maybe I've just had one too many browser windows open to keep it all straight!

Thanks so much! I was just able to do the same thing...bringing my daily rate down to $12/day for my 3 day rental in late Aug. With taxes, it's now $60 total. I think I'm going to stop looking at this point.

What I meant was, clicking the AAA and entering your info on the "Exclusive Discounts for AAA Members" page does *not* show you AAA rates unless you enter a CD code in the "Corporate" box - I neglected this step a few times before I realized that I had to click the link on the "Be sure to enter your AAA CD Number in the Corporate Discount Field. For a listing of AAA or CAA Dollar Corporate Discount Numbers, click here" line, look up the CD, and enter it myself. If you skip that step, you'll see City Specials and won't see AAA rates (which are nothing special). It's another way Dollar's website can be confusing.....

What am I doing wrong?
If I enter the city code under promotion (5C11M) AND my AAA CD code the rental price comes up $6 MORE than if I only entered the city promo code.

If I enter both a promo code and our CAA corporate code, I only get the AAA rates displaying (no city special rates). It appears, on my system anyway, that the CAA/AAA corporate code will override the promo code.

TYSM Brett! I re-booked my Alamo ressie of $389.92 (which I cancelled), and now with the Visa code, am at $286.52! I can't believe the rates have dropped so much since I started looking several months ago. :thumbsup2
