Hello all. Well, I did a couple of errands. DH never spends change, today I took it to the bank. $83.00!!!! Then I returned a swim suit and found a cute sun dress, matching sandals, purse and a hat! This is all in anticipation of my vacation to the left coast of Florida next month. And I managed to get it done with out the car getting wet. The weather man is calling for snow showers tonight. YUK!!!!!! But I did not get any bargains, RobinMarie has the corner on them, I guess. If any of you want a 25% off one item at Chadwicks,. PM me and I will send you the code.

Tracy, you are so nice!

Y'all men settle down.

Found some cute straw summer bags on ebay, felt like summer shopping.

I bought this one in both colors 7.99
and thought this line was kind of cute 6.99 and they have others like it - might be nice for teens.

Are you a fishie?? :rolleyes1

Well I finally finished The Path Between The Seas - and I want to say how much I enjoyed it, how easy it was to read, and how informative it was. I now know oodles about the Canal which I never knew before and look forward even more to the day we go through. This is really going to be the trip of a lifetime. And as we go through, there will be ghosts everywhere - of the 5,609 known dead, of the visionaries and villains, of the long lost villages and towns, of the innovators and engineers, of the Presidents and politicians. In many ways, this was such a massive adventure which spawned off so many things that contributed to our world today as we know it.

TPBTS is a must read - a few pages at a time - and by cruise day you'll know the background to our awesome trip. :sunny:

Cheers

Ha!!!! It doesn't count when it's "SS" !!!!!

Thanks Allan. I keep toying with reading it or not. It is such a HUGE book and I am not a reader. Your post makes me want to read it. Guess I will head over to Amazon.com.

Tracy, I can't believe how sweet you are. All the kids must have been so excited.

If that book falls into the category of "Trashy Beach Novel", I may look at it. Somehow I think it is more like a History Channel Documentary. I will look for it at the bookstore next time I go. Who knows, maybe I will change my reading habits, or it might be the cure for my insomnia! Thanks for the review, Allen!

Just spoke with Annie Willcox in Acapulco (See the info in this week's Newsletter and 3C's site) and as an update....
If the ship does not dock for any reason or is late they will NOT bill your credit card, and if for some reason you can't make the excursion she requires 24 hours notice.
All ressies can be placed under "SHIP OF FOOLS". When I described this crew she laughed and said you'll have a good time in Acapulco then :)

Cheers,
Grumbo

I got The Path Between the Seas on CD at Borders. Yes, it is abridged, but it still is 9 hours! I really enjoyed it. The nice part about it being on CD is you actually take in the names that they talk about. Bill said when he reads the names, he kinda skims over them. When people were mentioned multiple times in the book, I remembered who they were from before.

Marsha, History Channel Documentary is more like it :rotfl2:

I couldn't agree more Allan. I'm around the 275 page mark right now. About the point where Congress is debating building a Nicaragua Canal or a Panama Canal. (I wonder which they'll decide on. ;) )

At any rate, I attempted to start a Path Between the Seas Book Club on the other forum but it didn't do too well. I think the book should be mandatory reading for all Fools. We can set up a little table in the terminal DCL uses and we can have a multiple choice test. If anyone scores 60% or lower (out of 350 questions) then they won't be allowed on the ship.

Every night (or when I remember) I sneak a handful of change from Allan's nightstand after he empties his pockets (he always has huge amounts of change rattling in his pockets), and I bag it up and bank it. I've been doing it for a couple of years now and saved about 250.00 sterling! There's a lot to be said for being sneaky! (And I don't spend the money on myself - honest)

Actually, several passages in the book allude to the fact that the "adult" business was probably pretty common during the canal construction.

Might even be like driving from Anaheim to LAX - painted sisterhood :earsgirl: on every corner! :earseek: :earseek:

Don't read the book too early though.
I read it last year before Christmas, and I can't remember the names of all the involved parties etc. It is a great book, and just to see the crookedness and corruption, and backhanders that got it done when Nicarauga was probably a better choice is fascinating.
It almost reminds me of the crap going on with our government, which is probably going to get booted with a non confidence vote within the next few months. Who would have thought Canadian politicians accepting bribes, money for relatives and party workers getting grant money. :) We're almost ready for the big time :sad2:

Cheers,
Grumbo

Pam, I don't sneak at getting my husbands change. I just DEMAND the change be turned over to me. We have saved all of our change since 2000 for all of our cruises. Since our last cruise in Oct 2004, we have managed to save 200.00 towards this one.
