August 20, 2005 - L.A. to Port Canaveral - Eastbound Repo Cruise - The SHIP OF FOOLS Part 2

I had an interesting conversation with the Holiday Inn San Pedro. I had originally just booked Friday nite thru Janis and wanted to add on Thursday nite. I called the hotel directly, gave my ressie #, and asked if there was availability for Thursday nite. Gal said yes. I asked if it would be at the same $89 group rate. Gal said yes. I asked if included the continental breakfast for Friday morning or if that was just a special thing for Saturday morning. Pause. Gal said yes, both mornings. I asked if the contental breakfast is served every morning. Gal said "we actually don't do that anymore, but since it's part of your group rate then yes you'll get it". I asked her what she meant and she said the hotel was taken over by new management last September and they did away with the cont. breakfast then, but since our group rate was negotiated before that change then we would still get it."

Like I said - an interesting conversation!

I received an email memo from the CEO of US Air saying that they were completing their reorganization and would be out of bankruptcy and supposedly set for the year. So I am not worried about my September 3rd tickets. Also, before that memo came out, I was told by US Air that should that happen, United would back up all ticketed customers and also other airlines would make arrangements if necessary for a $25 pp fee.

Thanks for the info...I wonder if I deleted that email without reading it. I will have to book this week using my FFM that way I will have that done.

I feel like I am missing something with all this planning! I thought all I had to do was book cruise, place to stay 1 night and airline...am I missing something here? Like I said I used to be an organizer....age is getting the better of me I guess.

Let see
Done:
Cruise booked-need to pay off
HISP booked -with transfer from LAX to hotel then to port.

To do:
Book airline (perhaps tomorrow)
Lose 50 pounds
pack.

To get to the airport in Phila I rent a Budget car in town (1 block from my office) drive it home, pack it then the next day off to work & airport or off to airport. Cheaper than Rapid Rover, no having to pick up others, less stressful! I did it for the last cruise and plan on doing it from now on!

Jeanne says she ordered a lanyard for me, a medallion, a pin.

Who do I PM about the transfer from Port to MCO???? I am so confused!!! This is the last time I decide to do something late!

Me again...

Interesting about the continental breakfast...I just booked directly with the hotel and was told that it included a continental breakfast. He didn't know that I was with any group...he just thought I was cruising by myself!

I just finished reading all the posts from the past 2 days!

DH kept checking in to see what was taking me so long on the computer. :confused3 He wanted to know why I needed to read every post. I told him that I was gleaning info so I could plan better, for example the "free DVD of Curacao". He looked at me like I was nuts  and proclaimed me ADDICTED to the DIS!

According to DH "all you have to do is get on the ship and some lady will give you a talk about where to go and what to do and what to buy for how much!". Poor, poor man has no clue after sailing on 4 cruises just what goes into planning and executing a great cruise. Good thing he has me! princess:

And BTW...we would love one of the awesome mats that Mark has designed. Just let me know where to send the $. It is really beautiful.

See...what would DH do without me and the DIS? :rotfl2:

Thanks,
Darlene

Not too late. Your partners in travel have already asked to be included in the bus to MCO. I'll add you on as well...Mark

Some of our local hotels (Holiday Inn) near the airport have a park and fly option. You book a room 1 night before you are ready to fly and you can park your car in their lot for up to 30 days. They shuttle you back and forth to the airport. Cost for around here is $100 or so. Check into your options because you wouldn't need to hassle with a rental car and it might be the same price or cheaper.

Wow, our local hotels only let you park you car in their lot for 14 days and that's around $125 with the room!

We are on the May repositioning cruise, but would like to get 6 of your pins from your cruise if that is possible.

Thanks

Tap&Dap - Hi neighbors Tom & Diana! :wave2:

DisneyDudette1 - You say you just booked for Friday night? I am suprised you got in as I thought there was a waiting list!

So far I have booked the following:

1. Airfare from JFK to LGB on Jet Blue
2. Karmel Shuttle to hotel
3. Hotel reservation for 3 nites - at HOJO's - Balcony Room
4. Cruise -- 40% paid for....
5. Bus back to airport after the cruise with Mark.

Waiting to be decided:

1. Are we staying in FL for another nite ? or flying straight home?

2. Airfare from MCO to either JFK or LGA.

ARGH ! We are running out of time :rotfl:

Hmm -- I will be quizzing my T/A - All Seas - Sandie - tomorrow when I am making a payment -- since the person at DCL was rather testy with me when I asked if I had a room # yet. I will post as soon as I find out if I am still GTY or got a room.

Also -- anybody who get's a check from me for the pre-cruise items -- my checks are little bit funky looking since I have my bank issue them online for me -- look like a cross between a refund check and one of the scam checks -- just ask Bob.

I called the hotel directly and had no problem getting a room. I was given a ressie confirmation number, instructions on the transfer from LAX etc...had no problem getting a room.

Thanks Mark for adding me to your list. As soon as I make the airline reservation I'll let you know who and when I am flying.

Gee...so much easier to catch up between last night and this morning.

TGIF! Have a great weekend all! I will attempt to join the chat Sat eve. Thanks for everyone's help.

Mark, we'd like 2 mats as well. They are fantastic! I'd also be willing to pay S&H so you don't have to lug it to CA.

Okay, I'm going to give Janis a call.

Hotels have a tendency to overbook, like airlines. If everyone actually shows up, some folks will be "walked" to another hotel in the area by HISP.

I want to make sure that doesn't include anyone in our group (the problem being that some of "our" group didn't book with Janis, so I'm not quite sure how we're going to be able to handle this).

Hi - I'm from the May repo trip and I'd love to order 4 pins. Please PM with details. Thanks.

You know if all the May repo cruisers order pins, in no time we'll be ordering more than them LOL :confused3 Isn't competition so fun! :grouphug:

Just a little fun for this beautiful, sunny Friday :sunny:

I would like to request 3 mattes please!!!! They are beautiful!!

I don't even know how much they are...but I would like three...just let me know when and where to send money!!!

MJ

Could those folks who have requested bus service to MCO after the cruise PM me their departing airline and departure times. The airline info is to see which side of the airport you'll need to be dropped off at and the time is to coordinate the bus leaving the port and to make sure that those with earlier departures leave as early as possible.

Those intending to continue their already long vacation plans might want to take the bus to MCO for a car rental. The rates to pick-up and return to MCO is about 1/2 the cost of rentals from the port and dropping off at MCO.

Possible Bus To MCO after cruise-Update

Are there any more people interested yet?? Our total so far is 87, and there is room for 55 per bus or 110 passengers in total.

If we use Mears Transportation and manage to fill the bus (capacity 55) the final cost will be $7.29 per person. If bus leaves the Port by 10:00am or so, it should put us at Orlando Airport by 11:00am. Cost for bus is 401.25 and tip is included as per my contact. Departing Airline is needed to make sure you are dropped off at correct side of terminal.

Some people have mentioned the bus times seem a little late. We can make our pick up time anytime we want and if we have 2 buses they can have different pick up times. Those with earlier flights will be put onto the earlier bus regardless of which bus you are now set for.
