I got one of the Mr. Clean Magic Erasers free from a post on the budget board and put it away for a "just in case". Well, today while I was working from home and on a conference call, Haley decided to color the wall and TV screen with crayon. A RED crayon! I used Glass Plus Wipes to clean the TV screen, which was a pain, but I got it off. My mom reminded me that I had one of the Magic Erasers so I gave that a try. All the crayon came off the wall and didn't take long or a lot of rubbing either.

That said, I am now going to go to Costco and buy one of the big boxes of these since I have a feeling that I will be using these quite a bit until Haley learns that crayons are for coloring books and not walls or TV screens.

Andrew, I would still think about the car. Because by the time you get to LAS early for security, ewait for the plane, get to the other end, find the R-A-C and do all the paper work, the time is about the same. I hear you with the complaints from the peanut gallery! The only drawback would be the one way drop off charge from NV to CA. It could end up costing you more than the flying part.

All the things we have to worry over. I think it would be wonderful if DCL would just say: OK all you Repo cruisers, just tell us your plan and we will make it happen, Door to door, no problem.

Of course, that would be when I wake up from the dream world!

Renee, I do love those magic erasers. I have used mine for wall marks (brand new house, saved the paint), it took mail polish off one of my favorite while hair clips, and several other odd uses. They have remade them with a more solid part on one side, I read somewhere. I saw in Good Housekeeping or one of those grocery store girls magazines that some peopl buy rolls of butchers paper and tape it to the walls like wainscoting so the kids can color on that. I think that can be good and bad, teaches coloring on the walls is o? Who knows, but have fun with your toddler.

Renee - I had a good chuckle over Haley's "artwork"! We only had one wall incident with crayons, but that was when Lara was five and angry about a time-out in her room:rolleyes: She threatened to crayon her door if we didn't let her out "right now". DH thought he had removed all art supplies after some (accidental) carpet colouring the week before so we called her bluff. No bluff - she had one green crayon that she used as high as she could reach - then stood on her vanity stool to colour higher!!!

Suffice to say, it took a LONG time with a nail brush to scrub all the crayon marks off the door (although I relented and helped her with it). "Magic Erasers" are a great invention!

BTW - MY FAMILY'S GREAT ADVENTURE STARTS ONE YEAR FROM TODAY!:thewave: :rockband: :jumping1:

First stop - Vancouver, BC, then 3 days at Disneyland, then finally the dream cruise with all of you!!!! The time will pass quicker than I think;)

Prayers going out to anyone in Charley's path--he's heading for a direct hit over Orlando. Here in Melbourne we're under tornado warnings--should just get lots of wind and rain. Everything is closed down though! But North Brevard County and the Daytona Beach area won't be as lucky. Let's pray it loses steam as it passes over land!!!

Hang in there all you great folks in Fla. Our prayers are going out to you.

Thanks for the Mr. Clean tip, sent away for my free sample.

I agree its a fine balance and one I am still considering my options for. I was in Gatwick Airport London last Sunday and it took an hour to get our bags, so balancing that of an air trip against driving its close.

I am still considering my options, but due to the kids I still balance a bit towards the flight and pick up car in Burbank, and therefore no out of state fees.

HOWEVER, Have any of you done the car trip from LV to LA, I uderstand its about 4 hours, what is the speed limit on the interstate 15? 55/75, and what are you going to see, looking at maps its Mountains and Deserts, is there places to stop if the kids want a break?

Thanks

Andy, have a safe trip to Fl!! saw on other post that you are driving instead of flying...have fun on the cruise too!!

Seems to be a very slow day on this thread, so to bump it up a bit some panama facts hopfully not printed before.

Each lock holds 8,800,000 cubic feet of water and about 26 million gallons of water, a one day supply for a large city,

About twice as much is used or wasted out to sea in each ship passing.

No pumps are used in filling or emptying the lock chambers its gravity, letting water run downhill.

Gatun lake is 85 feet above sea level.

The high spots an route are gold hill 662 above sea level, and contractors hill opposite side 370 feet.

Gaillard cut is eight miles long through solid rock for most of the distance. here is where most of the excavation was required.
Most of the slidings happeded in this area after opening.

The towing lovcomotives at the locks are called mules.

Now get your head around this, your track is more North/South, and if you are going West>East, You track Northwards, you end up more West at the end then when you started.

East>West is more south, and you end up more east when you finnish! Lock at local maps to confirm.

Lock gates are about 65 feet wide, 7 feet thick, and vary in height from 47> 82 feet and weigh 390 to 730 tons.

Gates operate with 40 horsepower motors and opened and closed in two minutes, each door, is fited with watertight compartments which make it more buoyant taking stress of the hing and lock wall.
