 My DS made Eagle scout tonight. Can you tell we are excited?

Congratulations!:cheer2: I know it's a lot of hard work, I have two cousins who are Eagle Scouts. I know you are proud and excited and you should be.

Thanks everyone. I didn't know much about the Eagle rank before this. But I couldn't believe what a boy goes through to become an Eagle. Someone said it is a seven year commitment. I know it is many years, many positions a boy has to hold within a troop at 6 month increments min., 21 badges min., and that Eagle project. The project took 15 months due to the first two projects falling through. The project had to include something that would benefit the community, it had to be big enough for a group of people to work on, 100+ hours of manual labor, and this long report about the entrire process (think major college term paper).

The rank was first given out in 1911. In 2009 they hit their 2 millionth Eagle scout nationwide. Something like only 2% of all boys that start scouts make it to Eagle. It's been interesting for me to learn about all of this.

DS is just happy to out rank his dad, and his uncles. Last night was the last part of the process which was his board review. This is where a panel of adults leaders sit around and grill him about what it means to be a scout. It's pretty much defending your life. Now he has to plan the ceremony, and we have to plan the reception for the fall.

Thanks for listening...now back to cruise planning.........:)

Dizzyworld, CONGRATULATIONS on your DS's Eagle Scout achievement!!!
That is quite an honor, and you are justified in being proud!!

JMTStone, thanks again for coordinating the FE! I'm getting so excited to plan and shop for this!

Congratulations! That really is a major accomplishment! My DS12 and DH are hiking down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon next week for scout camp. :scared1: If you don't see us on the ship, you'll know DH didn't make it out :lmao:

I'm excited about the FE as well! Now I need to get busy and make my actual FE!

In 2009, my DH and DS did the scout trip to Philmont. Two weeks of hiking and camping. They came home on a Tuesday morning, and we left on Friday the day before our 7-night cruise. How weird it must have been for him to go from freeze dried foods and granola bars to people bringing you unlimited foods that you got to pick. It was nice that he got to chill after that hiking trip.

They have also done 2 trips to Seabase in Florida. Last year they learned to scuba. They loved it. It is strange having them both hanging around the house this summer without major scout trips or summer camp.

A trip to the Grand Canyon sounds great. I hope they have fun.

Cabanas or enchanted garden on embarkment day?

This is a tough one. Lately we have done Parrot Cay over Topsiders because it just felt like a better start to our cruise. However, for the Dream it's a tough one. I think right now we are planning on Cabanas but if it is too crowded then we will just head down to EG.

I don't know if anyone has been reading the other threads about the new opening time at the terminal but here is what I posted yesterday.

I got a call from concierge this afternoon and got the same information you did. According to the concierge manager DCL is going to enforce the port arrival times and there will be a separate queue area for those people who did not check-in online and select a port arrival time. She also told me that boarding time will not change. I think someone posted this before but this makes me think of bus stops at WDW. I can see different lines for each arrival time and if you show up prior to your arrival time then you will have to wait in your appointed queue area.

With the port arrival times it sounds like they are trying to alleviate some of the crowding in the terminal. And with the terminal not opening until 11am, it sounds like they are trying to alleviate some of the congestion outside the terminal with some cruisers leaving and new cruisers trying to show up.

I guess we will see what happens on August 2nd.

It could be a very interesting morning. Our party is now trying to figure out what time to arrive at the port. If it is true and DCL is going to enforce the port arrival times then I would be more than happy to arrive between 10:30 - 11, but I know there are going to be people showing up at 10am and I don't have a lot of confidence that DCL is going to make them wait. It's gonna be fun!

I'm not looking forward to this either.

I'm a compulsive rule-follower, and I will be really upset if there are people with a later port arrival time being let onto the ship before us!!

We have a 12 to 12:30 arrival time, so I'm hoping it will go smoothly.

I am leaning toward Enchanted Garden for our embarkation lunch. Our family doesn't like buffets in general (we don't like battling other people for food) and I think Cabanas will be way too chaotic for us. Yes, I know EG will be a buffet too, but I think with the single line, traditional buffet, it will be easier to navigate.

Lelani, what are the final DIS meet arrangments?

Deb - thanks for the reminder. I've been meaning to post these and I kept forgetting.

Aug 1st - Pre-cruise at WDW

Belle Vue Lounge at BWV after 9:30pm. Right now we are planning on doing Illuminations then walking back to BWV and have a drink or two in the lounge before heading to the room.

Aug 2nd - Embarkation Day

3pm meet - Bon Voyage Lounge - Deck 3 Mid-ship. I changed the time to 3pm but I will probably be there around 2:30pm.

Sail Away - unless it is raining we will be on deck 12(terminal side) for the sail away party if anyone wants to join us there.

When I did online check in I listed 10:30. We are not taking Disney transportation so I guess I will be sitting outside until 11!

We will be right there with you! We can always have a mini DIS meet for those of us who show up at 10:30. :thumbsup2 I think we should just storm the gates and make them let us in!:upsidedow

Since DCL CMs for the most part have problems enforcing the rules (i.e saving pool chairs, kids jumping in the pools, seat saving, etc. you get the idea), I wonder how they are going to handle this? It is going to be crazy unless DCL informs all passengers, and it doesn't look like they are going to do this.

I'm a compulsive rule-follower...........

I know how you feel.
