August 1st 2009 - Eastern 8/1/2009 The Eastern Caribbean Castaways

Helen,

It sounds like you are really getting ready for the big trip! I am going into downtown Seattle with Dave today while he is working (my first day of summer vacation!). Who knows what I might find! :goodvibes

Nothing!!!!!!!:lmao::rotfl::woohoo::yay:

I think I'm pretty much set clothes wise - Dave needs to get some new trousers but he says he wants to see if he can lose more weight ( dont think he realises how close its getting!)

Oh well off to sort out clothes (again!):rolleyes1

That sounds EXACTLY like my husband - and I'm with you, I don't think it's hit him how close we really are!

Hey, I have a question for everyone. Are you all arriving the day before the cruise? We are arriving the day of. I've been called "crazy" on another discussion for doing this. We have a cushion of several hours, as our flight gets into MCO at 11:30. So we'll be at port around 12:30 unless delayed. I know things can happen, but I really think we'll be fine (and yes we have trip insurance just in case).

Hi after our 6 nights in ny we have 2 nights back at wdw before the cruise. I'm a big worrier and could not relax if we were flying the same day!

Anyway just got back from the sales . Dave does not know it yet but he got 5 shirts tonight . LOL I also picked up a cute dress bag (purse) with a sequined union jack on it.

Well it was my treat as I got weighed this morning andlost another2 lbs. Which means since Easter I've lost a stone in total (14 lbs) .

I've also been thinking about what to put in my gift bag for the exchange. We said there was a 10 dollar limit.

Oh well I'm off to bed soon take care all ! X

I was pretty confident that flying in the same day would be fine, but there was that one little niggle of "what if," and I don't want any "what if" to happen and ruin my vacation ... so I called Disney this morning to see if they could rearrange it all for me, and voila! No problem. This is why I love booking everything through them. As long as Roberto (DH) can get Friday off, we are coming in Friday and spending the night at the airport Hyatt. The only additional cost is the hotel stay for Fri. night. Yea!

Edited to say: Yes!! We are confirmed to leave Kansas City at 10am Friday morning instead of a 5:30am flight out on Saturday morning. Saturday will be a much more relaxed day now! I'm so excited!

Helen, congratulations and nice job! It is not easy to lose weight and I applaud anyone who has the willpower to do it. You deserve a cool new dressy bag!

Dear Melissa,

I apologize for not remembering if you have kids, I'm pretty sure you do. We also are staying at the MCO Hyatt. We did this before our first cruise, and really enjoyed it. I admit it's pricey, but we had a good time. They have a neat rooftop pool. If you were interested - our kids are girl 8 and boy 5, maybe we could meet in the lobby and let the kids loose in the MCO arcade. - And my apologies if I am being too forward!

Dear Melissa,

I just checked Helen's first post and realized that your Ds-s are not likely to be interested in my youngsters. Ah, well. . .

And since we are bragging, my work stress has caused me to drop 7 pounds in 2 weeks. Sigh. Now, I _need_ to lose a lot of weight, like 50 pounds, but this weight has come off, unintentionally. I will be SO glad to get to tomorrow! I expect that the stress will continue for a bit longer, but golly I'll be happy to shake the role of Wicked Witch!

Thanks for listening!

Hey Joy! Yep, my boys are older but we may very well see you in the arcade (unless I can successfully hide the fact that there's an arcade from them :rolleyes1 ... we have tons of video games at home but always seem to spend big $$ at arcades). Also, I looked at the pictures of the hotel pool online and it looks like a lot of fun!

I agree, it is a bit costly for a hotel stay but I figure we're paying for convenience. What time do you get into OIA? We're scheduled to land at 4pm.

Congratulations for losing 7lbs! Sorry it was from stress; that is not the best for your health! :goodvibes

Maybe we could trade contact #s closer to the date and if nothing else, at least meet & say hi before we take off for port? I know my family very well and if I make too many plans ahead of time we won't hold them 'cause we all like to decide on meals, activities, etc. in the moment. After years of rearranging plans that I've made, I've stopped fighting it and now just research options so I'm prepared at any given location. I'm a planner so this is always tough for me!

Sounds like you got great deals! Congrats on the weight loss.

I'm glad you got everything rearranged. I also like to go in early because of the what if's.

Sorry about the stress, but weight loss is a nice side effect if you have to go through it anyway...

I'm trying to get shirts, magnets etc. together but I'm not making much progress. Why oh why does work have to get in the way? :confused3

I'm sure looking forward to meeting all of you!

ok I had to steal the first pirate:

Next pirate award is whoever makes the 700th!

I was even thinking of doing 5 quick threads this morning to become a pirate. Which proves there are two kinds of pirates, the quick pirate:and the dead:scared:.

Kim and I are flying into Orlando on Friday. We have friends that moved to Orlando a couple of years ago and they will pick us up at MCO, we will take them to dinner (hoping it is a restaurant in WDW) we will stay with them that night and then they will get us to the Cape early on Saturday. Should, and will be a great trip.

Only 48 more to go for piratehood!

Dear Melissa,

We are due to arrive around noon, I think. We're flying from Philly and leaving in the mid-morning. My m-i-l and her good friend will also be with us, but that gives me built in babysitters. There are several disney stores in MCO, and the arcade is in the airport, not the hotel.

FWIW, we had a great dinner in the hotel restaurant two years ago. There are plenty of places to eat in the airport, but the hotel was quite good and not unreasonably expensive. I would be very happy for us to trade information. I have a super easy cell phone #, so I can pm you if you are interested. As a teacher, I totally understand compulsive planning, and then the havoc that is wreaked when the plans fall apart!

Thanks for your congratulations. I'm looking forward to putting this school year to bed.:cheer2:

So, if I received my gift "bag" as free with purchase, can that not count toward my $10 limit??

Don't we have to invent a moniker for our thieving friend? (I very nearly typed fiend - and they say that Freud was crazy!)

Helen the 'arrible??? or the 'arrpooner?
:confused3

Yes it is fine. The limit was really there so that people don't feel obliged to spend a lot . It's just a nice get to know you activity. Does that make sense?

So I spent some time today re-reading this entire thread (which I had not done before; just skimmed), and realized there are a lot of teachers in the group. While I am not a teacher of children, I do run a corporate training department so I teach adults as well as manage other trainers. So I sort of count myself as a teacher!!

Also, Helen - you & I are kindred spirits with the shoe thing. A couple of years ago my husband expanded our master closet (using unused attic space) and in doing so, built me a "shoe wall" ... floor-to-ceiling shoe racks. I promptly filled them up and there are shoes in every nook & cranny of that closet! I joined this really cool shoe of the month club (shoedazzle.com) and I so wanted to share it with you but I checked and they only ship to the US. Bummer :sad2:

I didn't realize just how much the same-day arrival was stressing me out. I feel so much more relaxed about the trip now that I've changed it. My sons are happy, too, that they don't have to get up at 2:30am to leave for the airport on Saturday! (A sign of them getting older, I'm sure. When they were younger it was "cool" to get up in the middle of the night. Now, they're like - let me sleep 'til noon!)

My youngest is turning 12 on Monday. He's very excited!

Told ya it was random comments ... also a bit rambly. Sorry about that! Have a nice day, everyone! :):):)

We leave Saturday morning and it is seriously making me worry - oddly, my dad who is a SERIOUS worrier isn't! He's paying for and arranging things so after I left him know that we should leave Friday and being told that we didn't need to I'm just trying to chill about it! We get into Orlando at 11am.

Hi! We were supposed to get into Orlando at 11:30 before I changed it. You really should be fine. We would have been fine, too. A LOT of people come in the same day w/no problem. You've got a few hours' worth of wiggle room in case there is a delay!

BUT - if you really want to change it and you booked everything (air, etc.) through Disney they can change it for you at no add'l charge. We only had to pay for the hotel stay. They rearranged our flights in a matter of minutes w/no fee.

Hi guys. I'm thinking of ordering the lime green silicone bracelets that some cruise groups get to help identify DISers. I did this on the cruise that Helen and I were on three years ago. Would anyone be interested in wearing them?
