August 1st 2009 - Eastern 8/1/2009 The Eastern Caribbean Castaways

Do all of you have passports? I've been on the fence about it for months and tomorrow is my do or die day. We don't have any plans of traveling outside of the country other than cruising. Please convince me that I'm not wasting money.

Dear LadyRob,

The downside is that kid passports are only good for 5 years, so it is a big expense. The upside is that once you have a passport, it is MUCH easier to renew than to start all over. Also, I am a bit paranoid about the risk. Disney will tell you to leave your passport in your safe and not take it on excursions. However, God FORBID that we miss the boat on St. Maarten, we can't get off the island without our _original_ passports. We can't get a flight out, we are stuck until someone in the consulate helps us out. I don't like those kinda problems. As trip insurance goes, a passport is kinda nice.

ScubaD - Dave

I just noticed your half marathon pic on your signature - do you run?

This is getting spooky - my Dave (jobba) completed the Great North Run last year for the first time and is registered for this years (Sept 20th )

hmmm you are both called Dave , you both do scuba, now you both run :rotfl:

I do not run regularly. I want to lose weight and I was doing really well for awhile but have stopped running. I have to get back into it though. I was up to 6.1 miles though so I am sure I will be ready when the marathon weekend is here. I hope to generate donations to "Give Kids the World", a program supported by the DIS podcast team.

Thanks for getting me back on the running gig. I look forward to sweating again.

Dave

Hey shipmates,

I know we all read the Cruise Line threads, but what other threads have your interest?

I regularly read the Podcast forum, have been on the WISHes board, Mousellaneous (DVC) and Theme Parks.

Dave

We went ahead and applied for our passports this morning. DD13 already has one so the expense wasn't too painful. Now, I'm crossing my fingers that they arrive in time. It was an extra $180 to expedite for 3 of us so I decided to take my chances. I may order new copies of our birth certificates just in case. ;) Thanks for the advice!!

Podcast forum, Theme Parks, DVC Mousecellaneous, Weddings and Honeymoons (because of our 2 kids getting married!), and Disneyland and Disney Cruise when we have vacations booked to those places

The thread s I read are UK Trip planning and Uk DVC members , along with the Disney restaurant thread as I am a bit of a foodie.

This is something we did on my last cruise meets thread back in 2007.

You see that this post is number 628 , its displayed top right of the post.

Well in multiples of 50 any one who posts the post that is the exact 50 eg our next one would be 650 - is awarded a pirate: and we give them a silly pirate name,

Does that make sense?? Its late here. So basically the person who posts 650 tehn 700, 750 etc are awarded pirate:

It gets to be fun thinking of pirate: names to give people and I'll post the results on the first info page

Let me know if you understand what I mean:rolleyes1

I'm off to bed now - take care:grouphug:

You should have enough time. I ordered my passport about one year ago, and believe it or not, it arrived in the mail BEFORE the check cleared!! And I didn't even expedite it!

Hey Danny - you probably aren't reading other threads so I wanted to post this about the beer mugs...

" Beer mugs - I didn't understand before we left exactly how this worked. My DD drinks beer and I thought she'd have to cart a mug around all the time, making this option inconvienent. Not the case! When you buy a mug, (the bill is for $17.19 grat incl-I think that is all she bought) they give you a laminated card. You can keep it with your KTTW card. You trade the card for a mug. (The beer costs $4.89 grat incl.) Then when the mug is empty you take it back to the bar and trade it for a card. Nothing to carry - easy peasy!"

Cool!

I read at the Community boards, budget boards, sometimes the Podcast. When I'm planning a trip to the world I spend time on Theme Park and Restaurant boards.

This is awesome news! I figured I was gonna have to cart around a beer mug! Sweet! :drinking1

Hello DanielSan,

I may have missed you earlier in this forum, but I have to ask? Are you a shipmate of the Eastern Caribbean Castaways? There are 65 of us so far and we are always ready to welcome more.

Helen has a great informational section in the very first post to this thread if you have not seen it yet.

See you in August.

Dave

He's my baby brother Dave! His wife and my parents are coming too! My folks are celebrating their 50th anniversery.

Hi Guys

I cannot beleive its only 33 days till we fly out to the states:cool1:

I'm so looking forward to this holiday.

I bought Dave a load of Tshirts today and am going to the Debenhams sale tomorrow to see if i can get him some nice shirts;).

Dave is working away this week. He is on a small island off the top of Scotland.

I've just watched Csi Ny and rather than watching the charachters I'm looking at the streets in the background to see if I recognise any names:rotfl:

I think I'm pretty much set clothes wise - Dave needs to get some new trousers but he says he wants to see if he can lose more weight ( dont think he realises how close its getting!)

Oh well off to sort out clothes (again!):rolleyes1

Helen -- it sounds like you are getting some great deals! I really need to assess our clothes and figure out what I need to buy, but baseball and work are keeping me too busy. Maybe this weekend...
