August 16, 2011, Disney Dream - Part 4

We were at table 29, great table in RP, but not so great in all the other resturants. What table did you guys get?

Table 31 - I can't believe we were practically sitting next to each other each night and never met?!? We were probably preoccupied with our bizarre tablemates or sitting there wondering if our asst server was ever going to return with our drinks or something?!?

Our table was great everywhere except RP (next to galley door & the server station - where we witnessed at least a dozen close calls w/ collisions).

I had the opposite problem. I had asked my former TA (notice I now say former) to not link our staterooms with my family since we had originally booked the vacation with 2 other families. I even went to the D lounge to try to get the tables at least separated but in the same serving station, but they wouldn't do it. We ended up with two tables, one of adults (9) and one for all the kids (11). It was fine, but it's always hard to have a conversation at big tables with anyone but whom you're seated next to. I never even knew what the kids ordered each night with the exception of Mickey bars for the kids table.

Our servers were good, but the asst server kept apologizing. I'm sure it was just a language barrier, he should have been saying "excuse me" but all he said was "so sorry, so sorry". Nothing to apologize for. Our Head Server was Raul from Brazil. He did stop at our table each night to say hello and ask how we were doing but did nothing as far as our food/meals/service was concerned. Usually we have a lot of interaction with them due to my DS food allergies but he didn't do a thing for us. We were also celebrating two actual birthdays onboard. They didn't acknowledge the adult one at all and the kid one they brought an individual chocolate dessert with Happy Birthday stamped in chocolate. My friend had asked about ordering a cake for the table and she wasn't even given the option to buy one (this was two days in advance of her birthday).

That is soo bad about your dining. I do not blame it on our TA since I had an email confirmation confirming how she had linked all of our dining. It was DCL that did not follow through on their end.

That's sad...Where were your parents seated?
My parents were seated at a completly different table than us!!
Gobble Gobble.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
:thumbsup2:thumbsup2
As part of Kristins seating fiasco, imagine my surprise when we boarded and looked at our KTTW cards to find dh and ds at a table on the other side of the dining room from dd and myself!

That was just plain awful!!:scared1::scared1:

Hey everyone.

We are bugging out of Florida a day early.

Originally were scheduled on the Auto Train for Saturday but Friday, Saturday, & Sunday's trains were all cancelled.

Since it looks like Philly is going to get either a direct hit or near miss we need to get home and close the windows! :scared1: and batten down the hatches.

I just got back from the main desk at WL to cancel the kids' pirate cruise this morning. Bethany is bummed but is freaked enough about all the news reports that she is more concerned about getting home.

The plan is to take the inland route up through 81 to Harrisburg, PA and then shoot across the PA Turnpike to get home. The planner in me is FREAKING OUT since I didn't research this. I'm still trying to figure out how far we are going to be able to get tonight so we can find a hotel room.

Wish us luck! I have my smartphone so if anyone has ideas as to our route, etc I would appreciate any input!

That is terrible, I could understand your girls being so upset :(

The only problem we had was with our room steward, I think he was a ghost since we never saw him and he never introduced himself, I saw him once and asked him if he was our steward and he said yes, never saw him again and had to chase down someone else for a bar of soap, when the soap bar gets soft and slimy it skeeves (sp?) me out so I throw it out but he never replaced it, so I had to find someone to give me another bar of soap. Weird, I've never had trouble finding our room steward on any cruise I've taken.

We had problems with our shampoo and conditioner not being replaced so I had to go hunting for those. I ended up taking showers up in the spa so I wouldn't have to go find my own shampoo again. Also the showers up there are nicer than my little one! :thumbsup2

Thank you!!

I will have to get that toiletry bag. Does it hold everything??

Cruise was wonderful! So glad I got to meet up with a few on Serenity beach. Sorry I didn't get to meet everyone else.

Booked next summer already. I am sure I will see some of you again in the future.

Please , give her a big hug from me - and keep me posted !!

We had to call for more shower stuff as well!!

We did too-- got shower stuff the first day and never saw anything else afterwards until day three when I complained. I also kept asking for more towels (only four just didn't cut it with all of the bathing after being at the pools) and you'd think the steward would have figured out to just leave more. He didn't.

Couldn't figure out the phone AT ALL until I grabbed a room steward (not mine) going down the hall. Turns out there was supposed to be some card by the phone explaining how it worked. Guess the room steward forgot to place one there. For those of you who left us messages -- sorry if we didn't get them! And I kept goofing up on how to leave messages on other phones -- especially Kristin's!

I had a much better experience with our room steward on the Halloween Magic cruise -- that person seemed to be always there when I needed him. Hope was sick a lot on that cruise and we had so much help with things. Not so on the Dream. Maybe they are still just working out the kinks in the system? Or maybe mine was too busy making our towel animals? That must take some time to do for all of the staterooms every night!

Kristin, I'm sorry to hear that your mom is not well, I hope she will be on the road to recovery soon. How awful to find out right before your cruise, I'm sure she was savoring every moment with you guys.

Laura, did you get to see many characters on your virtual porthole? I actually saw the one in your signature with the starfish waving and every time I see your signature it makes me think of our cruise. My son kept on seeing things go by and by the time he pointed them out they were gone, I wish they would have them go back and forth a few times so I could actually see them. I did figure out that when I saw the pixie dust swirl that ment that there would soon be another character comming, but they all didn't have the pixie dust before them.

We couldn't figure out the phones either, somehow I got to guest services by just pushing 0 alot. Heaven forbid if there were a real emergency and I had to call someone! :scared1:

WE had lovely tablemates ( Helen and Dave ) and truly enjoyed our meals together !!
Our server ( from India ) - can't remember the name - was kind and I think he did his best , though he was not very ... talkative !!
The assistant ( Anne from Canada ) ;) became more and more friendly as evenings passed ... She remembered our preferences and was always fast - but the last morning - maybe they had "issues" in the kitchen ...

Helen and Dave were in a hurry - their town car was waiting ... and had to rush ... She apologized though ...

I'd say we had a good service !!

Our cabin steward - Freddy - was always nearby ; I asked for more body-lotion and found 3 new bottles when coming back to our room ... He would always stop and have a quick chat EVERY TIME we met , even when he was inside a room , he would come out and "shout " WHERE ARE YOU HEADING ? WAS THE ISLAND HOT ? ENJOY THE NIGHT !! YOU'VE GOT NEW GIFTS !!!! and such ...
WE really liked him.

:cloud9::cloud9::cloud9: Wish I could be THERE now !!!! laura

Kristin, your mom and dad are super special people. -- my family thoroughly enjoyed meeting them and hearing their stories! Your dad reminds me so much of my dad ... I kept thinking how much I wished he could have been there enjoying watching the sparkle in his grand-daughters' eyes. I'm sure he was looking down from heaven watching all of the fun.

Disney really goofed on your dining situation. They should have seated all of you together for meals -- how hard can it be to seat you at a 6 or an 8 top table? Why couldn't they have scooted one of the tables next to you over and readjusted the aisleway a bit? Seems like the dining service people still have a ways to go in figuring things out -- and given that you were in concierge, those people should have gotten involved too as that is what paying extra for concierge should get you (otherwise what's the point of paying extra for concierge?). It wasn't like they didn't know your needs ahead of time either as the reservations were linked. I'm so sorry that Hanna and Hope were so upset about not getting to have meals with their parents and their grandparents all together. You should definitely write Disney corporate a letter about this!

I'll be thinking and praying for your mom. She is such a special person! :littleangel: Call me when you get home and are settled. I'm hoping you are in the air, or about to board, about now!

Beth

Oh YES !!! We saw at least a dozen different characters !! Marco has them all on his camcorder - so I guess that he is going to make a short "clip" out of them ... :thumbsup2:goodvibes
I'll post the link - so you and son can "see" and enjoy those magical moments AGAIN !!!

I  LOVED the virtual porthole !!!! laura

That would be great, can't wait to see the video of your porthole. We loved watching the different characters going across the screen too.
