August 16, 2011, Disney Dream - Part 4

We never saw a sunset either!!! Never even saw the entry way to the spa or the fitness center. Never enough time for everything! I wish I could get enough time to do a transatlantic sometime, that would give me some more time!!

I never saw them either! We'll just have to take another Dream cruise to see all the things we missed! :)

Do you think it's an intentional
thing by DCL - "cost savings" - as we experienced the same thing? On prior cruises they'd replace that stuff with no problem.

I was wondering the same thing!!

Me too! I asked my room steward for shower gel and she said she would get some for me and never did. Also on the Magic we got lotion and didn't get any this time.

Kristin, That's terrible that your parents weren't seated at your table.
Hope things get better for your mom.

Sorry to hear many of you experienced not so Disney service on our cruise. I was actually pleasantly surprised by the service we received and actually tipped a bit extra this time around because we were so pleased. Our stateroom host was fabulous. He kept our room extremely organized, but I am happy to say unlike someone else he didn't touch my undies :scared1: We also asked for ice once and he then continued to bring us ice for the remainder of the cruise for our happy hour - even without being asked. He was always so pleasant and was great with the kids. I would have to say he was the best stateroom host I have ever had on DCL.

As for dinner, I will admit the first night was rough, but after somewhat joking with our staff about our expectations, the rest of the cruise was fabulous. We shared a lot of laughs too.

I also found that most of staff was very friendly throughout the cruise which added to our experience.

I am looking forward to the Turkey Cruise in 2012 with many of you!

My stateroom host was not nearly as good as my last cruise, but really none of the service issues really bothered me. I am not complaining about them at all, just mentioning them to you guys in relation to your experiences. I still had a fantastic time and would cruise again in a heartbeat!!!

What did FE group one do about the concierge folk? Every time I went up the fwd stairs to 11, the gates on 11 and 12 were closed (and I assumed locked, since they were the one time I tried it). :sad2: (If you go up the fwd stairs to the pool deck on 11, you'll see the entrance to the spa/fitness center! :thumbsup2 )

I gave Kristins give to Frank and Peggy and gave the other 2 to Kristin to hand out LOL, since she was allowed in there.

Hey everyone! We got back LATE last night and then I worked all day today. I will have to deal with our eight full suitcases this weekend but tonight I am already in bed taking it easy. I will have to read and get caught up but wanted to post a few comments....

1. Thanks to everyone in my FE group! There were so many things we really loved and it was fun to come back to the room and have all the treats there. Can't remember right now who did the potpourri but I have to say it was one of my favorites because the bathroom had a bit of a funky smell to it.

2. Dinner Service = It was a bit rough. We sat with Erika's family and she has already covered much of it. Our servers were nice enough but they really just did not get Disney service. Drinks were never waiting on the table, they weren't refilled when we needed and there seemed to be little flexibility to get things customized when ordering (DS wanted just a plain steak one night and was told it could not be done).

3. Stateroom Host = Alright, I will say here is where I will state my disappointment. We only met our stateroom host one time (I opened the door and there he was so he introduced himself). We had dirty dishes that were left in the room for 2 1/2 days. I know that I could have put them out in the hall but I really wanted to see how long they would sit there without being taken at that point. We also had to ask for shampoo, etc. On the 4th day, I finally left a note on the bathroom mirror asking for supplies to be restocked in both bathrooms. Here is the worse though....my kids had their own stateroom connected to ours and their carpet was so gross with massive hair/lint balls. I would pick them up and leave them on the trunk or put huge wads of them in the garbage can. I do not think the carpet was vacuumed before we got there and it was not vacuumed the whole time we were on the ship. I will admit that I was annoyed that I had to tip this person.

4. A reminder that Disney is still part of the real world = On our at sea day, DS was with a group of friends doing the detective thing with the photos. The kids were all together and it was shortly after lunch. While they were on deck 5, an 18-20 year old male individual approached the kids and began to swear at them and say things to them. He then used his elbow to push my son . . . hitting him so hard that DS fell into one of the other children. He yelled at DS and then left the area. DS was not really hurt as much as he was scared. He was totally freaked out and said he was scared that the guy was going to do something else to him. DS came to find me and then I took all the kids to security. I will admit that I am very disappointed with how security handled the situation. He took all the information and then told me he would check to see if there were cameras and then contact us again. Now, DS was still crying at this point from having the elbow in his back and being scared. The security person, while being nice and taking the information, did not really do anything to help comfort any of the kids or help any of them feel better. The follow-up that I got was a message on my phone from security saying they were sorry they did not have a camera so there was nothing else they could do unless the kids saw the man again and called them back. That was it. Again, this is Disney and these were kids that went through this. I just feel like they could have checked on the kids or something. As a follow up to this, my son was really not feeling secure even the next day and just wanted to get off the ship at one point. I finally went down to guest services and told them that I expected them to do something to help my son feel better about what happened. After talking with one of the ship officers, he was surprised that he did not know what happened to the kids and volunteered to have a guest relations staff member who had worked at one point in the kid's club to take Ben on a private tour of the ship and try to make him feel better. Ben did go on the tour that afternoon and we appreciated the cast member who was great with him. I just feel like it should have been Disney making a point of checking on the kids and that I should not have had to ask for some help.

5. Despite all the things that happened, we probably had the best cruise ever because of how much fun we had with friends. I am feeling very lonely tonight after having such a great vacation with so many great people. I would have loved to have had more time to sit and talk with some people (Laura and Marco...you especially! )but there were others that I spent so much time with that I feel like we are now life long best friends (Kristin....you are truly one of the special people in my life).

6. Rebooking = We booked a dummy date but I am unsure of what we will decide upon. I had hoped to consider the Turkey cruise but the price is just too high for our family at this point. I just want to have a dummy date out there and will figure it out soon hopefully.

7. The Cabana = We LOVED LOVED LOVED the cabana at Castaway Cay. It was wonderful to relax in such a wonderful place with all the cabana had to offer.

I am sure I will think of more but I will now try to catch up with the posts - or fall asleep reading because I am so tired!

Jen, LOVED LOVED LOVED meeting you, Paul and the kids. It is a fervent hope of mine that we will all cruise again with you. I'm hoping some pixie dust will fall your way and we might be donning pilgrim hats at a long table top (one of Kristin's liking too) on the '12 turkey cruise. Or if not that, something else...

Many thanks from me to you for the website and all of the other great things you did for everyone on this cruise. Good luck with school this fall. All kids will luck out to go into Mrs. Anderson's class and come up with their own ipad window into their unique world. I just wish some day that Skye and Hope are taught by a teacher like you....

I'm adding another line here so that is why my editing button has come on: Steve just walked into our library and wanted to wish you and Paul and the kids all the best too. Next time we cruise he hopes to run on CC with the Andersons. Me, I'd rather stay with all of our stuff at the beach... :)

Beth

Beautiful sunset pic Jeff!!!!

Miss ya Jen!! Dinner is not quite the same now.

Turkey Day is too pricey for us too, hopefully sometime in 2013 will work.

Ouch. :confused3 Can't some pixie dust happen so prices will drop for the '12 Turkey Cruise? If not that year, let's all try to reconnect in 2013. We all need to come up with a "plan" so that when the 2013 prices come out, we are on it opening day....

Okay, I'm busy doing disboard typing tonight! Chalk if up for feeling a bit forlorn that the cruise is over. Given the state of the economy right now (no politics discussed here!) if you know of anyone in need of employment that might consider cruising with DCL, then provide them with this link. I saw it on the main board and found that the job descriptions were quite interesting.

I have thought about working for DCL for years, but am more interested in working in the I.T. department since I am a database administrator. Not sure why DCL never lists their I.T. positions on dcljobs.com. :confused3

I purchased 3 of the 4 that I saw on display, the 4th was not worth buying. I am posting the low resolution version and below them is a link to the high resolution version. The file size for the high res is too large to post but you can right click on the links and choose "Save as target..." to download the high res version.

I just love the fact that our cruise is over and we are still posting 5 or 6 pages/day!!

We only saw our cabin steward once or twice. Room was always neat and turned down every night. We brought our own shampoo, conditioner, and lotion so I was not looking for replacements.

Our assistant server was very good, He was new. He had been with DCL for 2 months. He joked with the kids, got to know their likes, dislikes, etc. Our Server was OK, and very pushy for her 'excellent' review. This was the first Disney cruise that I actually had to cut my son's food. On both our other cruises the waiter's would cut up their meat when they delivered their food.

I had so much fun meeting everyone! We are so looking forward to the 2night on the Magic! I know quite a few of us booked it, but not sure exactly who. Are we going to join that dis meet or just keep chatting on here???

We booked a dummy date too, but If we could agree on another date I would love to cruise with you all again!

For the one on Deck 11, I gave it to a CM.....I hope it got there! :) The ones on Deck 12, I asked a CM if he would take it and he just let me in!! He didn't have a key so he stuck his hand between the gate and opened it!!

I didn't see them either, but Missy took this photo.

Sounds good too me!!! Let's go for an Eastern hopefully around the same date as this one!

Jeff, Thanks for posting the group pics. I bought the second one! Now, can anyone help identify everybody?

I'll let Missy know. Thanks.

08/25/12 is an eastern which we booked last November

Maybe we can tell Jen who we are and she can (sorry for volunteering you) PhotoShop in the names. :goodvibes

I feel like I missed so much by not meeting up with everyone! We just had so much family stuff planned (and all family newbies) that I couldn't really make it to everything. Once we left the meet/cabin tour early, we were just out of the loop. Oh well--maybe next cruise!

Going back to what Jen said about how she loved the Cabana made me smile. Beth listened to me one night at dinner on how I couldn't believe anyone would spend $500 on a Cabana and then tried to convince me why it was a great thing. It was enjoyable to listen to her enthusiasm but for us it would be a incredible waste of money.

We enjoy exploring the island and are rarely in the same place for more than 15 minutes. I can't imagine renting a Cabana for the day when we probably wouldn't spend anytime in it. I told her it would be as if we rented a shore house that we never visited. Nevertheless, we didn't see eye-to-eye on this subject. :rotfl2:
