Northern Philly burbs.... back to work/school today. The roads were awful in our neighborhood this morning but drivable, thank goodness!
Dh and I have pretty much decided to go w/ the Auto Train. We will be staying w/ his mom and stepdad our first night in Florida which brings the two budgets (driving/train) within $60 of each other!
He is really excited about it...and ds-5 (a Thomas freak) is going to be hyped as well.
December is just super cold and Strasburg is out in the middle of farms so the wind is fierce and makes it almost impossible to walk from tent to tent or some of the other exhibits.
The downside to June is that it is packed, but we've had success w/ getting an early train reservation (like around 10/10:30) and leaving before lunch. There is a great "amish" style restaurant (Hershey Farm) not far away that we go to every visit...yummy food and not all that expensive.
In other musings...I wonder if they will be showing Cars 2 on board?? The would be really popular w/ Ben if he could see it again on Mickey's boat!
Just a heads up that the auto train is extremely boring. I dont know if you are going coach or not but if you are make sure you bring a comfy pillow and blanket. Also be sure to bring a portable DVD player or something else to play with. The only TVs they had for coach were in the smoking area and it reeked of smoke even though we were the only ones in there. I will say it sure is nice not to be the driver!
Great info...thx! We are definitely going coach.
We have a DVD player but it is for the car so it doesn't have batteries, it has an A/C adapter though, are there outlets available? We also have laptops so that is an option as well.
Dd has a DS and ds has a Leapster (thinking of getting him a ds for the trip..not sure about that yet) and dh and I can read for hours (love my Kindle!) so we should be okay.
I was even thinking ahead at Christmas...Santa brought dd and I travel Scattergories and that new Scrabble FLASH.
I'm readjusting my brain to switch from driving mode to train mode so I can think of good things to pack in their backpacks.
We have looked into taking the the auto train but have decided that we will be driving. It is about a 14 hour drive which is doable. DS, who will be 4 at the time of the cruise, loves Thomas too. I am sure he would love being on the train just like your DS. Maybe your DS & my DS will be able to share their love of Thomas on the cruise. I am sure DS will wear one of his many Thomas the Train shirts on the cruise. He was onlast year when he was able to wear his favorite shirt and hug Mickey all on the same day.

Cool...Did you get the shirt at Strasburg? We've done that 3x (tip...don't opt for the December visit...June is MUCH better!)!
Ben's first trip to WDW was during his 2nd birthday. While this photo he is playing w/ a Disney vehicle...he was just as likely to have one of his Take Along trains.

This was while in/on line for Small World. He layed down like this ALL OVER property...only took about 1/2 a day to realize that when we told him he had to move up all he had to do is get up for a second and then he could lay down and play again! About halfway through the trip some well meaning older woman offered me some hand sanitizer when a ball he was playing w/ bounced out of the stroller...I thanked her and explained that we had surpassed the need for hand sanitizer loooong ago!
Ben still loves him some Thomas but at 5yo he has branched out to include all forms of transportation. He also has a healthy Cars obsession which I'm sure will be in full force on the cruise since the new movie is due out in July.
There will definitely be a mix Thomas, Hot Wheels (they are faster than Matchbox because they have a flame on them! LOL) and Cars/Cars2 in his backpack for the trip!
I'm sure that they both will have a blast on the cruise. Ben has been looking at all the pictures I've been drooling over...he's already a bit bummed about not being tall enough for the AquaDuck (although I'm not sure he would ride it once there), but the Mickey slide seems to be making him feel a bit better about it!
Oh dear! You all need to quit chatting so much while I am working so hard!![]()
Here is a quick summary of the craziness of my work:
The Plan - Our school has a grant where we will purchasing enough iPads for each student in the school (800 students). The "plan" was that at the start of next school year, they would be purchased and passed out to students. Staff have been working to slowly learn about how their iPads work and start planning for how this will be fully implemented.
The Reality - Our school district decided to do it NOW! The order was placed and the 800 iPads will be passed out in APRIL!As the technology integration specialist, it is my job to figure out how this is going to work and be sure every teacher is ready. Needless to say, my job is totally stressful and mentally challenging right now. I love it but I feel totally exhausted at the end of every day.
So, while I have been working like mad since finding out....all of you keep chatting on here and making me have to catch up with 5 pages of reading!
Sorry I am not going to go back and respond to everyone. Kristin - your girls are simply adorable! Welcome to everyone new! Sorry about all the snow on the east coast but please keep it there because we do not want anymore here. Love all the info about the Dream.
I will now attempt to keep caught up this weekend!Relaxing tonight to prepare for a long run tomorrow morning.
Welcome to the weekend everyone!
Jen
Christine,
Your son is soo cute!!![]()
Jen,
First and foremost I hope you are feeling better!! Been, thinking about you a lot this week........
WOW, 800 IPADS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are going to need your time off in Feb. with this HUGE project!!
Hello all!!
Happy weekend everyone!!!
Wow Jen!!! 800 Ipads? Can I go to your school?![]()
Today, I spent the day with my girlfriend getting donations and ads. for our silent/live auction that we are holding in March for our kid's school........It was fun. We got some good stuff. Anyone, ever do this for their school??
Jen, that is why I asked about Apple. We are trying to get an IPad at a Discounted rate!!
Thanks... he's 5 now (only 2 in the photo) and dd is 9.
I'll track down a picture of them from June and post it tomorrow.
Hey Kristin - I am feeling a bit better since my nose is not running as bad. The hard part is that I now have the cough. The crazy school work does not allow time for being sick. I am happy it is the weekend!
Yep....800 iPads due to arrive in April - 6 months before we were planning on them. My school is a pretty big middle school and EVERY student will have one.
I am counting the days until we go to WDW! It is now 26 days until I leave!
Our school has been in the paper a lot lately and once word got out that every student would have an iPod (that they will take home at night), we have had a lot of applications.
I will be honest....Apple is not really the type of company know to discount their products, regardless of the cause. The price that I gave you is the educator discount price. You might have more luck seeing if any of the retail companies that carry the iPad will give you a gift card that you can apply to the iPad.
