August 16, 2011 – 7 Night Alaska Sailing

I am very surprised and disappointed that Amtrak doesn't have a priority service for those with mobility challenges/personal vehicles. It would speed the process for everyone. That is a shame!

Seattle is better about it than some of the smaller stops--we got on pretty efficiently there. However, when we were going home from Klamath Falls, that's when they ran us from car to car to car. Poor DD was almost in tears by the end of it, because she had to haul most of the luggage herself since I can't. I wasn't happy. Since I wound up in a wheelchair, I avoid Amtrak.

i haven't been motivated to pack because we leave for seattle on saturday. i guess the thought of having to do 5 loads of laundry is unmotivating?? lolol.

well...i have my first load in. let's see how far i'll get by the end of the day! :rotfl:

4 pirate ears can take up so much real estate in our luggage, thank goodness dd is out of the 'princess' stage. i remembered on our first dcl cruise, she was 6 yo, and she wanted all 4 of her disney princess costumes packed!

Just a week ago I set up the horn as my phone ringer sound. I rarely get to hear the entire ring though.

Elfinjojo -- I forgot you are in the UK. Please take care! Wishing you the best!
Thanks Mrs Gumdrop - fortunately we are away from all the trouble where we are(although only 35miles north of London, so theres no saying that it will stay that way!) It is horrible to see our youth(and the not so young)behaving in such a disgusting manner! What started out as a protest riot towards the police for a shooting, has turned into mindless criminal damage and looting - with folk jumping on the bandwagon for all the wrong reasons. I hope it stops soon!

THE CASES ARE DOWN FROM THE LOFT!:cool1:

they are still empty mind:rotfl2:
I plan on kicking the kids and DH out for the day tomorrow so that I can make a start on the packing uninterupted!!

Wish me luck:lmao:

My DH is packing his enormous leather pirate hat. He only gets to wear it once or twice a year, and he refuses to leave it at home. Did I mention that this hat has a giant red feather we have to pack in a document tube. :sad2:

BUT! It makes him happy, so we do it!

I am glad to hear you are far away from the action. I hope it stops soon too. :grouphug:

...as only I can, it seems.

I have a small portable scooter which never worked properly. Between Algebra 2 and everything else, I hadn't had a chance to take it back to the manufacturer. It's complicated, because neither DH nor I can drive due to health problems, so I had to coordinate with my dad to drive the 30 minutes out to the place.

Well, Monday, we finally took the time to do it. They said they had repaired it, and it worked okay in the parking lot, so we took it home.

Fast forward to today...

Mellers kidlet and I decided to go shopping for a few last-minute cruise items. We decided to take the portable, to give it one final test run. It not only broke down--it broke down in a BUSY 4-LANE INTERSECTION!!!!:scared1:

Mellers kidlet showed great presence of mind, kicked it into roll mode and pushed me back to the sidewalk--no easy task for a 15-year-old by herself.

I called the manufacturer back, and I was furious. They apologized profusely, and agreed to replace the offending scooter, because I was not going to put up with any more "repairs". Thankfully, my new portable scooter is now back at home, and we took it for another test run and the new scooter worked fine.

I think I need a break, though.

MELLERS - sorry to hear about your bad day :sad2:. I'm glad you were able to get a new scooter though. :thumbsup2

Just close your eyes...click you heels 3x and repeat after me...just a few more days 'til the Disney cruise...just a few more days 'til the disney cruise...just a few more days 'til the Disney cruise! Feel better? :yay:

Mellers, I'm glad to hear that you are okay after your ordeal today. And I am sure you are thankful that your daughter was with you, to help keep you safe.:thumbsup2

Yes I do :)

Now I just have to finish my packing...

I've followed some of the thread but haven't posted in a while (actually since may 13th, i checked). We are mostly packed for the cruise and we are really looking forward to it. I'm a little concerned about the weather but I am hoping it isn't really too bad. I can live with a little rain.

This week we are in Sunriver, Oregon on vacation until Saturday. We will finish packing on saturday when we get back home. Then Sunday we drive to Seattle to pick up my cousin and her daughter who are coming with us on the cruise. We are also going to the opera in seattle (Borgy and Bess by Gershwin) on Sunday afternoon. Then we drive up to Vancouver and staying near the airport.

I see if we can make it to the White Spot at 5:00pm for the meet. does anyone have the address so I can plug it into the car gps?

Richard

So how many of us are taking Amtrak Sunday morning from Seattle to Vancouver? Count my family in...we will be at the Amtrak station bright and early..ugh! But the upside is we get to spend almost a full day in Vancouver:cool1:

Looking forward to meeting everyone!

We are taking the train Sunday morning. There are 7 of us with luggage and a collapsible wheelchair (renting a scooter in Vancouver). Supposedly we are getting transportation arranged by the hotel (Holiday Inn Express near the Space Needle), but I will be confirming that when I call to check on everything tomorrow.

I have had a terrible week a work, with a friend being rushed from 3 desks away to the ER. She is stable now, but not out of the woods yet. Of course that set me back, so now I am trying to concentrate and busting butt to get everything done in the next 5 hours and 50 minutes. (not that I'm counting or anything :rotfl:)

Anyway, that also set me back at home because I have been drained. Hopefully I will get everything done and will have a nice relaxing vaca... Can't wait to hit the hay tomorrow (Friday) night, because that means everything has been completed. We leave BWI bright and early Saturday morning for Seattle.

I probably won't be posting any more, but I'll be reading.

MIC---See you real soon
KEY---Why? Because we're cruising together

I'm sorry your friend is in the hospital! I know how that can set a person back. I don't know if it's possible to change at this time, or even if you'd want to, but if you're staying by the Space Needle I would highly recommend you take the QuickShuttle to Vancouver instead of Amtrak. Amtrak is not as wheelchair-friendly, and the QuickShuttle leaves from the Best Western Executive Inn which is very close to where you are staying--also, unlike Amtrak, it will drop you off at the door of most Vancouver hotels.

Wow! A lot has happened on this thread in just a few hours.

Mellers! OH my goodness, that must have been frustrating and terrifying. And that daughter of yours is a real wonder. I hope she gets an extra dose of fun on this vacation. She deserves it! I am glad you now have a functional scooter.

Richard, welcome back to the thread. It sounds like you have had your hands full with fun! Please forgive me for pointing out this typo, but I was highly entertained. As an appriciater of all things Star Trek, Borgy and Bess would be a very interesting show! :rotfl:

IMBEN- I am sorry your coworker has had such difficulty, and her illness has created more work for you. I know that is Not how you want to spend the week before your trip. I hope your friend heals quickly and things get easier for you.

aww mellers, i hope you and yours have a better day today!!

i just looked up the alaskan navigators!!! fun fun!!! looking at the activities for the edge, that's where my kids will be, i think they'll enjoy themselves. i don't wanna give out too much info to them ahead of time so i plan to not talk about it. the problem is.......will i be able to contain my excitement for them??? hahaha!

i did 5 loads of laundry yesterday and none of it were my clothes, sheesh, lol. here's hoping today will be a constructive packing day. we leave for seattle on saturday.

MRS GUMDROP - where did you find the graphic on the bottom of your signature...the ALASKA with the Wonder? If possible and if you wouldn't mind I would love to make a door magnet of it.

Thanks!
Kelly
