August 16, 2011 – 7 Night Alaska Sailing

I tend to catch every cold and flu that goes around - EVERY one. And it always seems like I'm sick for my holidays (I went home for the first time in 4 years and I managed to get strep and was sick the whole time I was there). So when I know I'm going on holidays, I try to be extra careful to keep myself from getting sick. I make sure to take all my vitamins, wash my hands a gazillion times a day, drink lots of Vitamin C and sanitize like crazy.

But, wouldn't you know it? I woke up yesterday with a sore throat and headache and it's still kicking around today. I have 3 weeks to go before the cruise, but colds tend to linger in me for weeks sometimes. I've added Zinc, throat lozenges and hot steamy showers to the above in the hopes that I can kick this quick. I'm not one to typically believe in all the "fad" or home remedies, but at this point I'll try anything and everything, so if you have any tips or tricks, please share!

I don't want to be miserable on the cruise!!!

Very sorry to hear this.

But I'm sure you would rather feel miserable this week than in three weeks. Drink lots of hot chicken soup ... and dream about what you'll do the first three hours onboard.

Aby I feel your pain! I have been kicking the same symptoms around fpr about 5 days now and just when I think I am getting better, it gets worse! I have started drinking daily orange juice and getting lots of veggies and traking Nyquil to make sure I sleep. Good luck!

After dispensing wellness advice, I woke up today with a cold.

The symptoms aren't severe, so it might be gone in a day. I'm staying home just in case. :surfweb:

Hi All,

I haven't been on in a bit but I am back;) Been a crazy few days. Here is the new question;)

What was the Banks family doing at the end of Mary Poppins???

I hate to contradict another member of our group, but PLEASE do not try to pack soda or bottled water in your checked baggage. The image below shows how those bags are handled -- stacked on top of each other and tossed around just like at the airport. I don't know about you but I would be pretty upset if my bag ends up soaked in liquid during transfer.

This quote is from the "Prohibited Items" section of the DCL FAQ:
"Alcohol is permitted on board. However, be aware that any fragile items (including bottled alcohol) must be hand-carried on board in a day bag and/or carry-on bag, the dimensions of which cannot exceed 22" wide, 14" high and 9" deep. Alcohol brought on board may not be consumed in any lounge or public area. Guests who arrive in the dining room with a bottle of champagne or wine that has been brought on board will be charged a corking fee of $20.00 per bottle.

Please be advised: Disney Cruise Line reserves the right to remove fragile items (including beverages) from luggage. In such cases, items will be stored and returned at the end of the voyage. Beverage containers are considered fragile and have previously caused damage in checked luggage. All fragile items must be transported inside carry-on luggage."

I would agree with glass bottles how ever plastic bottles are alittle different. I have seen people pace a whole case of water. on the Panama Canal cruise we did, our table mates packed a 2 weeks worth of Alcohol as he put it "its all in how you pack it.

Side not if you are bringing Alcohol (wine & Champagne) bring the stuff to open it your self and open it before your waiters see or say anything

That is my experience and 2 cents.

Feel better soon!

(Maybe I should add vitamin C tablets to the FE gifts;))

I usually just take the cold meds, but last time I felt horrible, the cashier suggested ColdEeze. I took that along with my cold meds and felt better before I got home. I continued to take it, and the cold did not seem to last that long.

Hopefully, I won't suffer the same fate of dispensing advice & coming down with something. :)

Reading through the trip reports, though, and also from our friends who just returned from a non-Disney Alaska cruise, a lot of people seem to be coming home sick, so maybe we should stock up on "Airborne".

I was just on the DCL site looking for an opening for a Palo brunch (no luck there), but there is an opening for dinner on Day 6 (Ketchikan) at 6:30 pm for 1-2 people.

I just passed the last likely hurdle for the cruise! My cancer docs says that not only has my cancer not grown, there is a good chance I am now NED!!!!
