August 16, 2011 – 7 Night Alaska Sailing

Wow Aby! It looks like you and DH have a fun packed week ahead of you. I'm glad most of you got what you wanted. :thumbsup2 Does anyone have any experience with floatplanes? We booked the Glacier Flight and Taku Lodge Tour based on the glowing reviews, but I'm wondering if we should bring our 3 1/2 year old DD with us. We had planned to bring her along, but now I'm wondering if it's not really appropriate for a toddler. I just don't know how much to read into the comments regarding the noise level and potential for motion sickness. She's traveled quite a bit and has been on commercial prop planes when we've vacationed in Cape Cod, but that might not be a good gage of what it's like on a floatplane. Any feedback would be helpful! Thanks.

Happy for the first-timers who got what they wanted, but sorry, godalejr, that you weren't able to get the ones you wanted.

I am finding out, once more, that it is never so bad that it can't get worse. After our adventures this Memorial Day weekend, we found out that our dear friend broke her femur in multiple places, and is now in Harborview Medical Center in Seattle--I just spent the morning there. She is likely to be in the hospital for a very long time. We are all worried about her.

I will probably be going back and forth to Seattle for awhile, so updates will be slower, but, rest assured, I will make sure that The Big List gets updated, and that everything is in place for the cruise.

Well, I've logged in to the DCL site ... no brunch or high tea reservations available for Palo at this time, so I'm off to sleep. Dinners were available.

Hope everyone manages to get the excursions they want!

Sorry you didn't get the ressies you want.

Congratulations, Aby! I'm happy that you got what you wanted. I couldn't get a Palo brunch, but I got the spa appointments we were hoping for:
Day 7 -- Couples Choice
Day 6 -- Manicure & Pedicure for me and massage for DH

Once we are onboard, we will have to see if we can change the times for either the manicure/pedicure or the massage. I scheduled them both for 8:00am. This morning I looked at the Navigator for Day 6 and realized that the kid's club doesn't open until 9:00am, so there is no place for DS to go while DH and I are in the spa. If one of the appointments can't be rescheduled, I'll have to cancel. I'll keep checking the DCL website until then!

dont stress karen, if you cant change the ressie, maybe bennett wouldnt mind hangin out with us and my DS 10 (cameron) at breakfast and beyond until you guys are done :thumbsup2 cam is looking for some boys to hang with and i totally dont mind supervising for a while :cutie: how much trouble can 2 pretween boys be :rotfl:

btw - we will be traveling to/from the cruise from bwi (my cousin's wedding the weekend b4 the cruise). what part of md are u in?

o dear! how did she get such a serious break? sending happy thoughts your way :grouphug: and hoping all goes well and you are finally able to relax and enjoy your upcoming vaca

We will be flying out of BWI as well! Small world :)

Mellers, I am so sorry your family and friends have had such a run of bad luck. Wishing them all the best for a speady recovery!

I was able to complete the online check-in! And I was able to register my DD for the Oceaneers Club. Don't know whether I should allow her to self-check out.

Thank you, Heather! That's so nice of you and your family. DS 9 (Bennett) is really looking forward to meeting other kids his age on the cruise. He was happy to hear that there would be some other boys his age in our FE group.

We are also leaving from BWI -- it's only 15-20 minutes from our house. We're in Odenton, not too far from Annapolis.

Mellers, I was looking to see if Heather's DS (10) was in the Pluto Group with us, but it looks like only her DD (7) is. I think he's in the Mickey Group. Should the Mickey Group have DGS (10) instead of DGD (10)?

How old is your daughter? Knowing your kid, do you want her walking around the ship alone? You know your child best!

She is 10. And no, I don't want her to walk around the ship alone. But I do want her to be able to leave the Club with my MIL, FIL, or SIL. Can I grant check-out authority to relatives who are not in my stateroom?

Yes--it looks like I made a mistake. I'll fix that right away. Thanks.

Sorry you didn't get the ressies you want.

Thanks, maybe I'll check online a few more times before we leave and I will probably try to book a brunch onboard. (If it doesn't happen though, that's okay too.)

I was able to complete the online check-in! And I was able to register my DD for the Oceaneers Club. Don't know whether I should allow her to self-check out.

I was also able to "complete" my online check-in ... even though we don't have our passport numbers yet! Just by clicking on that section and then clicking "continue", it allowed me to proceed through unitl I reach port arrival time (that section was originally grayed out). The earliest slot (10:30-11:00) was grayed out but every other one was available. I selected 11:00-11:30.

Take your DD with you! The float plan is great. We did Misty Fjords in 2008 and the plane is really no different than any other prop plane, it just has floats added to it. I take that back. Takeoff and landing with a float plane is actually much smoother than a plane on land!

That is a very good question. I don't have kids, so no experience with the kids clubs. Perhaps the primary cruise thread can give you and answer to this one? :confused3

Sorry I haven't posted for a while. We are getting excited as the clock keeps ticking and we are only 2.5 months from sailing. Just wanted to let all of you know in the Pluto FE group, that our friends, Lee and Sharon, will be celebrating their 40th anniversary so any ideas in the FE's would be great and a surprise for them. They are in cabin 5136

Sorry I didn't catch this before--I'll fix it right away
