Two questions that I would love help on:
1- where is the best place to eat once boarded? Does anyone know what the buffet is like in Parrot Cove?
2- how do the character phone calls work? I want to set it up for my daughter.

Hi Melissa....there are two sit down venues that serve lunch on embarkation day....Parrot Cay on Deck 3 which is a buffet but you are seated at a table and your drinks are served to you. It is in the A/C which can be a blessing in August.
The other venue is Topsider's on Deck 9. It is also a buffet with indoor and outdoor seating but you get your own drinks and find your own table...which can be trying at times.
This will be my 28th
DCL and through the years I have found I prefer the more relaxed atmosphere at Parrot Cay. There is no right or wrong place to eat...just what you feel more comfortable with. I prefer Parrot Cay because I like having my drinks brought to me, I like not having to hover and look for a table and I like I can leave my carryons by the entrance to the dining room and not under my table.
At Topsiders the view is always great but you may have to deal with heat, humidity, juggling trays with drinks, looking for tables, birds if you are eating outside. It is all just personal preference.
The food is basically the same at both places. They have salads, cheese, vegetables, sliced meats, peel your own shrimp, hot dishes, soups and tons of desserts.
Oh...and there are also the fast food place that serve hot dogs, burgers, chicken sandwiches, pizza, chicken fingers, etc. out by the pool. They are open as well if just want a to grab something quick.
Sometimes when you board you will be directed to either Topsiders or Parrot Cay by a CM.....if you prefer to eat in the other venue of where you are being directed you can politely say you prefer to dine in the other location. Sometimes there is a short wait at either place.
