August 10- NYC Cruise to Nowhere

I am considering booking this for me, my daughter and 2 of her friends as her sweet 16 present. Instead of having a party.

What do you think?

I am afraid the 2 friends parents will not be comfortable with that. They are close friends.

We booked an inside GTY and 2nd seating. I figure for 2 nights it shouldn't be that bad???

we will probably check one bag and carry on one.....but I guess I will have to wait and see once we are packed!

I am booked on this cruise for a "ladies weekend". One of my friends is afraid she will get seasick. I thought this would be perfect for her to "test the waters"
I am thinking about getting to the port and I am considering taking the bus to port authority. Does anyone know how close this is to the port?

The port authority is at 8th Ave & 42nd Street. The pier is off the West Side Highway at 12th Ave & between 47th - 53rd Street depending on the pier #. If you were to take a bus, you would still need to take the subway one stop (E Train) to 50th and walk over from 8th ave to 12th.

I have already decided to just drive in. A bus ticket is $42 roundtrip, and it $35 per night to park. It will be cheaper to divide the total parking by three, then each of us book a bus ticket.

Now I will have to think of something else to plan

Disney may do things differently, but usually for the two nights, the New York port usually doesn't have luggage service.

Just saying hello! We are from Long Island and just DH and I are sailing! Leaving our 3 kids home with grandma. We are going on the Dream on 4/5 (with the kids) and we are going to Canada on 7/8 with the kids. We are also doing the 6/15 2 nighter...without kids!

gotta love the Magic in NY....no flying and just about an hour away! So excited to see her in NY harbor!

DH will be going to the ship from work...... Not sure about how I'll be getting to the port. Hmmm......

Where in LI are you from? We are on the South Shore. Have you sailed the Dream before? It is awesome! We sailed her last September....First DCL cruise....not sure we will sail any other now!

Hi! We are on the south shore too! Babylon! We did a B2B on the dream last may....it was very cool. This will be our 14th cruise. We are going on the Dream 4/5 and the Magic 6/15 (adults only! and the Magic again 7/8 to Canada. Love the idea of DCL in NY! Hope DCL loves it too!

we are from RVC! Are you going to take the train in? I think it's awesome they are sailing out of NY, just so expensive! DD asks all the time when we are going back on the Mickey ship! She loved the nemo area on the dream. Is there anything like that on the Magic or just the Mickey pool and slide?

Just booked this cruise. This will be my 5th DCL cruise. Wanted to recreate the memory of sailing out of New York on the SS United States back in 1966. Also plan to visit Twin Tower Memorial day before cruise (bucket list).

Howdy Gang!!

I decided to come over and check out the disney boards about this cruise, since there wasn't a lot going on the CruiseCritic boards about this and I'm glad I did.

We are also from the South Shore of LI, us N. Bablyon and the others in our group are from RVC - let's all sing it's a Small World all together now!!

Our group is me and DH - late 30's/early 40's.. and my almost 8yr. niece and her mom & dad and Grandma is coming as well... so a total of 6 of us. This will be our 1st Disney cruise, so excited...

Very excited and can not wait to get there. Very happy to be leaving from home!! We are also taking the LIRR there, and will probably just cab it over to the pier. We have our boarding time at 1, and we are also doing the 2nd seating of dinner. This should be a LOT of fun!!
Can't wait!!!!
