August 10- NYC Cruise to Nowhere

I had holds on reservations for over a year now. We finally decided Dh and I will be doing B2B cruises for our 20th anniversary, 8/8/92. We'll be on for Canada the 5th and we decided to make it a full week by also sailing this cruise to nowhere. (we were supposed to pick one OR the other:rotfl:).

We left the kids for 2 nights on our 10th anniversary, but never a full week before. Should be interesting to see if I end up calling home constantly. We have the inlaws and the parents trading off mid week at our house to get the kids to their summer camps.

I booked Palos one night because dh loves it, and we'll see where we eat the other night. He's really excited about the trip and we just love the Magic. We sailed on her 2 years ago in the Med and dragged our parents and inlaws with us that time. It was really amazing. I'm very excited to be starting another cruise count down.

I just made final payment today. Now I'm really excited! :cool1:

I'm contemplating changing our dinner seating to late. I'd like to be able to be up on deck on our first night as we cruise out of the harbor and am afraid I'll miss it because of dinner. Does anyone know exactly how long it takes to cruise out of the harbor?

It can take about one hour to get from Pier 88, to the Statue of Liberty ... possibly another 30 minutes to the VZ bridge.

FWIW, the magic pulled into NYC pier at Noon, yesterday. Obviously, borading did not begin at 11AM. I am not sure what time boarding begins for NYC cruises ... whether yesterday's late embarkation was a one time event, or whether they will all be later than Port Canaveral.

:)We are all checked in ~ We were away this weekend so did not get the first boarding but got the 11:30 slot. Hotel is booked booked just trying to decide what to do the night before we sail.

We are all paid and super excited about this cruise!

We're looking forward to some adult time in the Quiet Cove! We tried to book Palo brunch but they didn't have any times available...keeping our fingers crossed that they have availability on board.

Our port arrival time is 11am and hope to be there around 10:30. We are coming from Western NJ so we're debating on just driving into the City or parking in Secaucus and taking the bus or train over.

Just checked online and it looks like our sailing is sold out!!

i just got done checking in as well . have the 11 30. boarding check in time. so excited.

We got an 11:30 boarding time as well. What time do you think we'll actually be onboard the ship?

I hope around that time. i know they want us to check in. but i'm wondering if they take the people who check in 1st rather than the one's who just sho up at the peir..
good question though..

Last week we passed the SOL at 5:30 pm...I checked my watch to make sure. We left at 5:00 and were going by SOL at 5:30...VNB was about 15 to 20 minutes more.

They were asking what your port arrival time was and were holding people back from entering the terminal upon arrival if you were earlier than your port arrival time.

They started boarding a little after noon, if I can remember. Oh, and Platinum club members will get boarding #2, not #1 like they do in Port Canaveral. I was told they are going to be uniform in policy at all the ports they sail from and going forward Platinum will be #2.

Just to clarify - you have been assigned an 11:30-12:00 port arrival time. You will be given your boarding card number when you check in at the port. Boarding starts with concierge (#1), then Platinum (#2) and then the rest of the numbers are called after that. It really depends on when boarding starts as to when you will actually be on the ship and what boarding number you are given at check in.

Boarding at Port Canaveral usually begins around 11:30-11:45, not sure what time they will begin boarding at the NYC port.

Anyone interested in doing a FE exchange this sailing? I know there isn't a lot of time but I thought I would throw it out there.

Anyone coming from CT? Does anyone know how much a cab generally costs from Penn Station to the cruise port?

Cab rates are supposed to go up within the next month, 17% I believe :( I think a taxi ride now is around $9 now with tip.

Hi DISers so I have booked this weekend cruise and DH is hesistant because he says its alot of money for 2 days I say I have never done a Disney Cruise or any other cruise and this will be I guess a taste of the Disney cruise, so we are going back and forth with it since we are not going to Disney this year I figured my girls would have a blast :cloud9:. For those of you that did the June cruise is it worth it, and if I decide to keep it what would you absolutely do on the ship? what would you avoid I just want my girls to experience atleast a lil bit of it and get the most out of it since it is such a short cruise PLEASE give me your suggestions thank you so much :goodvibes

Congratulations! We're also celebrating our 30th anniversary... actual date is August 29!
