Aug 24th MNSSHP is Also Crowded

Maybe the point is this:
The cap has always been X, say 20,000 tickets. 5 years ago there were fewer people at Disney so they only sold 1/2 X or 10,000 tickets most nights.
Now there are more people as Disney so they are able to sell 90% of X (18,000 tickets) most nights. On sell out nights it was 20,000 then and it’s 20,000 now.

The cap hasn’t changed, there’s just no more 1/2 capacity nights.

Meaning no disrespect but how do you know ? The FACT is Disney does not release numbers capacity of parties or any other numbers! So with that FACT in place they can change the numbers at will and no one is the wiser, but of course Disney would not do that! And here is the best part for them - no one can call them on it because nothing is in print! Just my opinion but when you need to spend almost a third of the aloted party time in line for just one picture ,almost an hour for one headline ride , with other most rides are having 20 + min wait time or someone has to stake a parade spot for 45 minutes+ before the second parade perhaps there are too many tickets being sold. I am not asking for “an almost empty park “ so I can go skipping down Main St (God I wish I could skip anywhere one more time,I haven’t been able to skip in years LOL) that’s what DAH is for ! But I think we are entitled to be able to experience/enjoy most of the posted events before the end of the event. I do not think that is asking too much. I am afraid I am not one to accept paying for an event being elbow to elbow the whole night, getting to do maybe 1/2 of what was offered, leave saying I kinda had fun but I am going to give more them even money for another ticket so I can maybe finish see/doing all I wanted/should have been able to do the first time ! “ please sir take my money just let me in”.

Yikes. I said ‘maybe’ and then proposed a hypothical.
I think we agree that parties are more crowded.

It's a thought but the problem is that people who were at sold-out parties 10, 5, 3 years ago and were at a sold-out party this year are saying that sold out looks vastly different than it used to.

I think there are 2 different things going on.
1. More people are going to parties.
2. The capacity has been increased.

I’m only considering point 1- I don’t think the problem for most people is that sold out parties are crowded, I think most are disappointed that even the less than sold out nights are also crowded.
I don’t think that’s because capacity was increased (supported by the fact that only a few parties were sold out in years past), I think that it’s because more people are going.

I also think more people are going because they’ve heard it’s not the crowded- quite a paradox Disney has created.

Shanti I completely agree with you. We went to MNSSHP last August 25 and it was a one and done for us. 30 minutes to get on it's a small world - long lines for everything! It was such a disappointment. I was annoyed that I forked over the extra $$ to basically pay twice To get in MK and to have it so crowded you couldn't enjoy it.

So not difficult to understand, but let's try this (1:43) :

A little confused here. Date is 8/20 on the video. Party was 8/24. He stated there would be a followup video with more about the party being "Oversold" "Tomorrow" but I have looked all over the Daily Fix, The Dis Unplugged, This site and I cannot find anything.

The DIS Unplugged show last Tuesday was cancelled. Hopefully, Pete will talk about it this Tuesday.

That still makes no sense. The party was on the 24th. Last Tuesday was the 21st. Video is dated the 20th. I guess I’m missing something.

No problem, yes we can agree that the parties have been crowded. I was just trying to make sure facts were pointed out because some folks apparently keep saying there is a difference between fact and opinion, there are those that have stated that as far as they were concerned is wasn’t “that bad “. Again a matter of opinion but when you have lots of others saying yes it was crowded, you kind of have to wonder if they were at the the same party ! Or maybe it is kind of like the kids story of The Emperor’s New Clothes, just saying....

PS cannot wait to hear Pete’s take on it come Tuesday. Hopefully!

Different people can be at the same party and have totally different experiences depending on what they want to do and when they try to do it. Plus what their expectations were going in.

I was a first party attendee... It WAS crowded.. But we were able to do the majority of the things we planned, Parade, Fireworks, HP with good to 'ok' views and not super packed.
We had walk on rides, but they were lower tier (Carpets, Mermaid, Small World). We had 10-20 minute wait for things like Splash, BTMR, HM.

We didn't do characters or treats. It was somewhat difficult to get water.

It was annoying to get from place to place due to crowds...I wouldn't do it again, but we did check of most of the boxes of what planned.

So for anyone who has experienced the excessive crowds at any of the recent parties, I encourage you to write to Disney and Express your disappointment. I did and finally got to speak to someone today. I did not ask or receive compensation, but I did get to express my concern that the parties Have become too crowded to enjoy the party activities and I do feel like at least I was heard. I also suggested bringing in fans into the Disney jR Dance Party tent which should be an easy fix. Will anything change? I do not know, but I know unless people speak up, nothing will. Maybe if enough people express their feelings, they will reconsider capacity or add in more party stuff to better absorb the crowd.

I’m still on the fence about attending the party on Labor Day. We’ll be onsite for a few days and will either do MK on Tuesday or the party on Monday. Reading this thread just about has me convinced to skip the party. Anybody know how the crowds on Labor Day have been in the past? We’ve done MVMCP several times but have never been there for MNNSHP.

Where did you call to express your opinion?

I NEVER really complain about anything Disney and I actually find it funny how much these boards can get so overly grumpy. Like a prior poster said, no matter what, we have fun and that is true.

We have fun just being together and as a large family, even waiting in line can be fun. But this is the first year since 2012 that our party of 9 which ALWAYS planned our costumes months in advance and had a blast coordinating them, is not going. Last year no one even had the courtesy to let my 2 year old through to see the parade. It was so deep the kids just ate candy, in the shadow of 4 or 5 deep rows of gigantic adults, and saw nothing unless one of us rotated holding kids on our shoulders. I was so disappointed that I just couldn't rationalize shelling out the 1k for the party this year for everyone, especially since 2 of the kids just turned 10.

My complaint is that our last experience was so crowded that I have to sacrifice not going this year. What is the point if you can't even see the parade?

Encapsulates the problem here. Just unaccebtable, particularly given the price tag.

So you wanted "4 or 5 deep rows of gigantic adults" to allow your two year old to sit in front of them while you wouldn't be able to see your child? Typically the first row or two of parade watchers are already sitting along the rope fence so where would your child have gone? Just seems to be an uncomfortable situation all around. You should feel you get value when buying these expensive hard tickets (or any ticket for that matter) but don't take it out on other people who paid the same price as you to watch the parade and got a spot before you...
I hope you are able to go again in the future and all have a great time.
