Aug 24th MNSSHP is Also Crowded

@beaprn - Think you are trying to say that our experience with rides being walk-on the last two years is an opinion. Sadly, that is not an opinion, that is a fact. An opinion would be that it's more crowded, which I completely agree with. However, rides were in fact walk-on besides 7DMT and maybe PP (never know, we never try to ride that one) the last two years at our parties. That's not saying that other parties didn't differ, I was simply stating that it was incorrect for people to state the last few years that at ALL the parties none of the rides have been walk on since clearly based on our experience that is not true.
I am sorry I was pointing out what the poo poo people were saying! I have been to several Halloween parties where the rides were walkons so you are correct this is not an opinion it is fact. Not matter what the poo pooing people say LOL!

Again I disagree. If there are 100,000 people vacationing at Disney it is far more likely that the MNSSHP will be much more crowded than if there are only 50,000 people vacationing at Disney
Again you are missing the point, it does not matter how many people are “in the area” Disney has control over how many tickets are sold on any given night. They are the only ones who have control over and they are choosing to allow these over crowded events to proceed !

Both times we went, on 10/26 in 2014 and same date in 2017, most rides were walk-ons. We didn't try for Mine Train, but Thunder Mountain we rode multiple times, the same with others.
Haunted Mansion had about 20-30 minute waits at times.
We breezed through candy lines, especially after 9 pm.

I think the early parties are always more crowded for some reason, perhaps because it's a novelty to go to a Halloween Party in August!

Overcrowding is an opinion. When we went last year it was crowded. SOLD OUT. I didn't care for that size crowd, but I don't think it was how many were allowed in. It could be that previous years that when we went in October the party wasn't sold out. In fact years ago...October was a quiet month...now it is a very busy month. I think the crowds reflect the time of year. When we go in September I will get a good idea of how the crowd is when we go to MNSSHP.

Pete's contention is that Disney exceeded their predetermed attendance cap, at least on the 17th. We should know more once we hear from him.

2 hr waits for anything in a hard ticket event is not acceptable but any stretch of acceptability!

Even in the early 2000s, when the parties were (in fact) decidedly less crowded than they are now, there were still two-hour lines for the 7 Dwarfs because they're rare characters. The "big" party M&Gs will always have astronomical waits. It's the longer waits for the lower-tier party characters that is actually the more bothersome development.

Last year on 9/12 rides were total walk on. We (me and my daughter) rode Space so many times I was sick of it but I think it was low crowds due to Irma. On the 16th we did another party and it was total chaos. I was told by a CM it was due to Disney allowing people that missed the party due to Irma being allowed to book even if the party was sold out. rewind to Dec 1st 2016, MVMCP was low wait times (5-10 min) on everything
Yeah we were there the 16th. I said never again..... We are going on the 18th this year:rotfl:

Don't worry... Disney will eventually have a dessert party with exclusive meet and greets...

I don't remember the party we attended having that long of ride queues. I remember waiting maybe 10-15 mins for Pirates, Haunted Mansion. But the M&G lines were really long, we only met Lotso then lucked into meeting the 7 Dwarfs 30 mins before the end!!

Maybe just because it's the 2nd one? Hoping that Sept 9th is less crowded. Our first time and I really want to at least try to see some special characters for the kids.

I hope so too as we'll be there that night as well. I did see somewhere that it is Cast Member night so I'm not sure what to expect there.

FWIW, they did do one in 2014 - the "Villains' Sinister Soiree" - https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/b...eets-at-mickeys-not-so-scary-halloween-party/

It was only offered that one year and has never returned.

Yes, but crowd levels weren't what they are now. Seems something like that is exactly what everyone is demanding... reserved parade and fireworks viewing plus character meets. Of course at ~$200/pp (MNSSHP + dessert party tix) it'd be ridiculously priced, but they would probably sell quite a few packages.

For all those saying “Don’t go! Don’t give them your money for a subpar experience because then things will never get better! “ what you aren’t accounting for is that there’s just as many people at these parties that are having a simply awesome time. Like my family of six: maybe it’s because we don’t know any different.... maybe it’s because we have different priorities at the party.... maybe it’s just simply the atmosphere of Disney that brings us joy...

Whatever the reasons are- the fact is that for everyone who doesn’t enjoy the party experience anymore and quits going- there’s many new families who will have the time of their lives taking those places. So I don’t think refusing to buy tickets will change anything- there’s simply too many of us who are completely happy being there...

Are they ever 'walk on' at a party?

I can’t speak for all parties but last year 9/7 party were not walk on but a short wait. I’d say the most we waited was 15min or so for HM. We stook to the parade, fireworks, treats and rides and thoughly enjoyed it. We would definitely do it again. Possibly not a first or second party, nor closer to Halloween. Although I’m going to follow closely this year to see how the rest of the partie’s review.

This aligns with my previous experiences (4 parties since 2016). I have always found rides much, much less attractive at a party versus regular park hours (because I can use FP+ (and refresh, etc) during park hours).

Maybe the point is this:
The cap has always been X, say 20,000 tickets. 5 years ago there were fewer people at Disney so they only sold 1/2 X or 10,000 tickets most nights.
Now there are more people as Disney so they are able to sell 90% of X (18,000 tickets) most nights. On sell out nights it was 20,000 then and it’s 20,000 now.

The cap hasn’t changed, there’s just no more 1/2 capacity nights.

Do Disney ever over sell / book like Airlines do on the premise that they hope a set % don't show up? Maybe this is a factor?

Most of the schools in the local area have already gone back, but as its a friday night perhaps there some more local residents wanting to get it out the way before it gets busy for Halloween? The other thing to remember is that most schools in the UK have just let out (matter of a few weeks ago) and so there is a huge British contingent there, and this will also ring true for most of Europe. I know it is a very multicultural mix anyway, but the density of people tended to be from those locations that had just been given summer time from school.

I also think it is all about perspective... if you go in expecting to walk on rides I think you will be set up for failure, if you go in thinking it will be tough then you are missing the fun! lol... it will be somewhere in between. The opening night was busy, but nothing too dissimilar than what we would see during the day, it was just without FP+ and DAS access etc...

I think the days of having the park empty and quiet during vacation time are going the way of the dodo..........

I never said don’t go.

I think the OP's point is the EXPECTATION of paying big bucks for an "exclusive" after hours party is that rides SHOULD be walk-on. A lot of people seemed to have experienced this over the years and as the party popularity goes up, the crowds go up, making it less worth the money (and the price goes up).

So this is a comment on "value" for the price of admission.
