Aug 23, 2007 - 3 Night Wonder

WOW! Thanks for all the info. I'm gonna check out the navigators and Youtube videos.
BTW how do you get the Ticker on the post? I tried but it shows as a link when I preview the post...party:

You put that in your signature and not in the post itself. If you did that and it still isn't working, make sure you have the before and after the link address.

It took me a few tries before it worked.

FIVE WEEKS NOW!!!!!

Well, I got crappy news yesterday. Three weeks ago I fractured a toe in my left foot. The doctor who treated me at the time said it should be healed in 2-3 weeks. I was relieved at that because we're heading to the Jersey shore for a week on 7/28.

Well, I went to a podiatrist yesterday for a follow up exam and he said the toe is actually fractured in two places and it will take 6-8 weeks to heal. He was just stunned when I told him the first doctor said 2-3 weeks.

So I asked about my shore trip and if I can go boogie boarding and surfing. He said I'm not even allowed in the water - no swimming, no boogie boarding, no surfing.

I nearly fainted. :scared1: I asked why and was told no high impact sports because you want to bone to be still at all times to heal properly.

The only silver lining is that the bone should be all healed by 8/23 as I booked the DCL snorkeling excursion at Castaway Cay. Thank goodness we booked this cruise for late in August and not earlier.

So I am going to grit my teeth and suck it up and be good down at the shore and focus on getting all healed by 8/23.

At least I'll have the Harry Potter book to read on the beach.
I know the feeling. Last August I was back home from my WDW trip not even 1 hour and I fractured my pinky toe on my left foot. What a welcome back to reality that was! My doctor told me it would heal in 8 weeks if I took care of it properly. I had to tape it to the toe next to it. After the 8 weeks it was fine. So just be careful over the next few weeks so you can enjoy yourself on the cruise.

Yup, the doc showed me how to tape it up properly because no matter how I tried taping it, it hurt like heck trying to remove the tape off the skin on the fractured toe.

Thanks for the sympathy. I was just so stunned that the first doctor was completely wrong on how quickly it would heal (not to mention that the toe is broken in two places). I'm a true Jersey girl and the shore is in my blood and I so love being in the ocean that not being able to go in is such a disappointment.

At least a broken toe won't prevent me from eating large amount of seafood at the shore not to mention sweet corn and other fresh produce. And we know a local farm stand that makes the best pies. Yummy.

Oh you poor thing!!! I really hope it heals well enough by 8/23, but that bites about your trip to the shore.

My DS is actually having a growth removed from below his right eye on 8/9 and I'm really hoping that he won't have any restrictions with going in the pool since it's only 2 weeks before the cruise, or even worse restrictions of getting sand near his eyes. I can't imagine going to Castaway Cay and he wouldn't be able to play in the sand.

Good Morning everyone

Only 32 days until we board our Ship, the WONDER.

I don't want to wish the days away, but it will be here before we know it.

Have a great day everyone !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any Harry Potter fans?

Our local book store had the midnight party for the release. We went and it was like a huge block party, so many showed up.

We got our copy around 12:40am (long line) and at that point I said I would be good and read the entire book before finding out the ending.

Got up the next day and lost my resolve. I admit, I'm bad, I went and read the last two chapters right away. I couldn't stand it anymore.

But I am not alone....both my kids said they read the ending first, too. :rotfl:

We're still going to read the whole thing straight through. I'll probably have it on the cruise. Books V & VI were released right before we cruised and I lugged those huge volumes in my carry-on bag.

Man, we are getting deluged with rain here in NJ.

I read mine straight through and I was trying so hard to avoid anyone who I knew had already finished the book and I didn't listen to the news or anything, I didn't want the ending spoiled. I had about 150 pages to go when I went into work yesterday and one of the women I work with gave away the ending. Well not the whole ending, but enough for me to figure out what happened. I was losing it with her.

I was at the chiropractor yesterday (my limping throws out my back) and I joked how we read the ending first and he said he read the entire book over the weekend and that just reading the ending leaves out a lot that happens earlier in the book about who lives and who doesn't.

But that doesn't excuse the co-worker who spoiled it for you

We were at a barbecue on Saturday and ran into people who had already read through most of the book and knew the ending. You're right - its so hard to avoid finding out what happens.

Here's a funny story.....on the way to movie theater to watch the Order of the Phoenix, I told my kids that I couldn't remember the details from the book because I could only remember the plot from the Half Blood Prince. Once the movie started then I could remember all the little details.

But coming out of the movie I could no longer remember the plot from the Half Blood Prince. Its like my brain could only hold a set amount of Harry Potter details at one time.

It did not help that we had just read the two Eragon books so I had that fresh in my mind.

Gives me a chuckle that we're sailing on a ship called the "Wonder". How appropriate. :goodvibes

LOL. I was rereading Half Blood Prince to refresh my memory before book 7 came out, and this was the same time I saw Order of the Phoenix and it was weird walking out of there and having all the book 5 stuff in my head and then going right back into book 6.

I'd like to go back to the first book and read my way through now and see how all the plot strands were tied together. Maybe I'll take books 1 and 2 with me for the trip. Our flight down to Orlando is only 4 weeks tomorrow and then one the cruise the day after!! :)

Several years back my kids asked me to reread to them the third book (then reread it again right away) and I definitely noticed clues I hadn't noticed before.

I did draw the line on rereading the 700+ page books again to my kids. :scared:

We'll be starting on Deathly Hallows on Friday. :goodvibes

JUST 4 MORE WEEKS!!!!

I am getting really excited now. I just hope our cruise docs arrive here in time as we actually leave home a week before our cruise - fingers crossed tightly :goodvibes

Wow - 28 days......I'm getting very excited, too.

Ugh, I'm trying to remember how soon the cruise docs come. Its at least two weeks and maybe more like three. If you use a TA then they get sent to your TA, that's what is throwing me off.

If you have registered online then the only thing that DCL sends is the luggage tags, the Bahamas immigration form and transfer passes (if you're using DCL transfers). So you don't get much else - kind of sad.

Got my kids' passports this week. That took 10 weeks. Wow, they are so fancy looking now. Of course they arrived sooner than I was told because we don't need them for this cruise. But they were expiring in August anyway so I had to get them renewed.

I banged my broken toe on the kitchen chair on Tuesday. It still hurts. I think that was a grim reminder to take it easy at the shore next week. At least I can go fishing and bought new fishing poles as our old ones are ancient and the reels are getting rusty.

Hello fellow cruisers

Has anyone mentioned a meet and greet for our group??

Ski-And-Sea suggested we do a meet. Check page 3 of this thread. It hasn't been discussed since, but I think we should set something up so we all can meet. What do all of you think?

Hey everyone.....just back from a week at the Jersey shore. Wow - it was so relaxing. Rained the first two days but after that the weather was glorious. The ocean was warm but a bit too much seaweed - lots of people picking them out of the water and throwing it at their friends.

I was very good and did not boogie board all week. I could see immediately that your feet bounce around too much. And the surfing gods were obviously concerned about my foot as the day we had our lessons the waves were horrible for surfing. Both my kids and I gave up after a few tries.

Did not see any dolphins in the water but saw plenty of skates which is a type of stingray.

I bought an underwater camera to take snorkeling and tried it in the ocean and wow the photos came out great. Can't wait to try it at Castaway Cay.

So now the focus shifts to DCL and WDW......I have not gotten my cruise documents yet but I did register what I could online.

Yes, we should have a DIS meet on the first day. The Promenade Lounge at 3pm is the "usual" DIS meet location and time.

Shame on you!!! I did think about reading the end first, but I didn't. I went out to Target and bought the book first thing, did some errands, went home, made the kids breakfast, and sat and read. I made them lunch, then read. I cooked dinner and read. I finished it before I went to bed!! Now if my DH would just finish it before I tell him what happened!!!

Now I need something to read on the cruise!! :)

I figured out how to find this thread! We're cruising for the first time (well, the kids' and I, my husband is a 20 year USN retiree with MANY cruises under his belt). We'll be at the Poly for 8 days then drive over to the cruise terminal. Our group is my husband, DD (11 going on 21), DS 6,DD 4 and myself. I'm getting really excited. I posted the thread about Palo reservations so as soon as we get on the boat I'm hot footing it to see if I can get a resie. I guess I'll be seeing some of you all dropping the kids' off at the clubs! :cloud9: Cindy
