Aug 23, 2007 - 3 Night Wonder

This being our first cruise I have a question for you all. We just got our documents yesterday and I saw that immigration form. Well....I don't want to immigrate; just visit for a day. What's it for???? Thanks! Cindy

Is that the Bahamas immigration form? Don't worry - nothing sinister going on. Every cruise that visits Castaway Cay has to fill one out. And I've never received any mailings from the Bahamian government so don't worry about your name and address being given out.

Just government regulation stuff.

Glad you found our cruise meet thread. Good to hear you got your cruise documents. Mine go to my TA first so I'm sure I'll be getting them this week.

My DD is 11, too. For the third summer now she's gotten an ear infection while we were down the shore.

Well - now I know why people bought multiple copies of the Harry Potter book as the kids and I were all wanting to read it at the same time.

Yes, I know I'm bad buuuut to my defense reading the last two chapters left me more confused than anything. I just wanted to know whether or not Harry survived as we had some family bets going on about that.

I will be still reading it by cruise time.

When I start reading a book, I NEED to finish it quickly. I will get no sleep to do it too!! I want to pick up some easy read, easy to put aside books for vacation. I may go to the library and see what they have in paperback for .25 each. Then leave them on the ship as I finish them!!

"The Promenade Lounge at 3pm is the "usual" DIS meet location and time." If this information is correct we will try to meet everyone then.

What time should we plan on getting to the cruise terminal? I'd like one of the low boarding numbers so I can try for that elusive Palo reservation.

I read Harry P. and it was fabulous. The last two chapters don't do the book justice.

We leave home on 8/14 to drive down so we're at 10 days and counting down! Thank you all for your advice, Cindy

Hi guys, we're getting really excited now - it's almost here. No cruise docs for us yet but we're in the UK AND there's a postal strike on at the moment so goodness knows if we'll even get them in time. I have Emailed my DU agent to check if we absolutely need them.

Joisey Mum, I have just finished a great book called 'The Memory Keeper's Daughter' by Kim Edwards. It was a good, easy read.

Antoher book I absolutely love is called 'My Best Friend's Girl' by Dorothy Koomson - I'm not sure whether it is even available in the US as it's by a British authoress but, if you'd like, I could bring it with me and lend it to you :)

I also really love the Shopaholic books by Sophie Kinsella - again, they are light-hearted and easy to read.

Sorry, I was getting caried away there - I am a bit of a book worm :rotfl:

DH and I will try to make the meet as I would love to meet you all (DH is a bit shy of things like this, although he has met several DISers here in the UK).

We can try to make the meet although I'm not sure if my DS will have the patience for that when there will be this whole exciting ship to explore, lol.

Just wish I had the cruise documents now. I already did everything online that I could but I'd like to get these and have everything ready. We're going down the night before, so just 17 more days, woohoo!! :cool1:

The DIS meets don't last very long - 30-40 minutes tops as we all need to head back to our staterooms to get ready for the lifeboat drill at 4pm.

Its just a way to put faces to the names. I'm bringing a box of glow sticks to give out to the kids (bracelets) so they can have something fun to wear on pirate night.

You asked about the water/sand on the ship and at Castaway Cay. The pools are fresh water not salt water. The sand at Castaway Cay is a different matter. It is not that soft baby powder texture we get at the beaches near us. The sand at CC is very gritty - think broken up shells/coral. Its soft underfoot in the water but on the beach its kind of course. There are outdoor showers along the walkways to wash the sand off - especially the feet.

Someone suggested bringing a small container of baby powder as that helps remove the sand from your skin. I would bring that along for DS along with one of the washclothes from your room in case he gets some sand near his eye.

There is a first aid station at CC but its closer to where the ship is docked as opposed to where the family beach is located.

Thanks for the info. I'll definitely remember to pack some baby powder. And it would have been good to know yesterday. We took some friends who were visiting from TX to Coney Island and the kids played in the sand for awhile and my DS was head to toe sand by the time we left. We had the pre-op at the hospital this morning and should be good to go for Thursday. At this point my DS is more concerned about basketball camp next week since I'm not sure if the doctor will think the possibility of getting a basketball in the face is a good chance to take just days after surgery, lol.

Hope the op goes well for him :goodvibes

Thanks. He's totally unconcerned about it, but of course I'm a nervous wreck. And today he told me that next year we should go to Disneyland - in Japan. Uh, I don't think so.

And still waiting for the cruise docs. I can't until they get here.

My kids were 4 & 6 when they got their tonsils and adenoids out (both surgeries on the same day). Its hard on the parents. But the pediatric staff is so good about explaining things both to the kids and the parents. That helps a lot and is very reassuring. The hardest thing was not being able to feed the kids breakfast that morning.

My TA emailed me today and said she is expecting to get the cruise docs this week.

My DS also had his adenoids out, and ear tubes put in when he was 2. He had such a bad anesthesia reaction with hallucinations and hysteria, it's the main reason I'm so nervous with the surgery. I wish he didn't have to have general anestheisa again, but what can you do. I'm also hoping that he doesn't fuss about not being able to ear or drink Thursday morning.

I really hope the cruise docs come soon, I'm going crazy here. :)

How interesting.......my DS had surgery when he was 2 and had the same reaction to the anesthesia. It was really, really scary to watch. And it continued even when we got home that afternoon.

There was absolutely no reaction to the anesthesia the second time around. In fact, we tried to get him to take a nap in the recovery area but he wanted to watch videos instead. DD fell back to sleep right away and slept for several hours. She woke up feeling like she had spent a week at a luxurious spa.

DS was a bit lethargic for the following 36 hours. We were a bit concerned about that and did mention it to the surgeon when he called us to check up.

It sounds like our sons had pretty similar reactions. They didn't want let us leave the hospital even after he'd calmed because he refused to drink anything, it was such a hard day. I'm keeping my fx that this will be a different experience.

And the weather this morning, oh my. It's pouring and major thunder and lightning. I'm at work and normally I can't hear anything from outside, the walls are so solid, but I've been hearing the thunder this morning.

The weather is lovely here today  And, even better, my cruise docs have arrived - now I'm really, really excited :woohoo: :woohoo:

Ooh, I hope when I get home the cruise docs are there. That would make me  .

There's been been major flooding with all the rain. All the trains are affected. I'm hoping I won't be having trouble getting home since none of the trains I can normally take are running anywhere to get me home. I really want to get home on time because the hospital is supposed to be calling about when to go in for the surgery tomorrow. And of course it's steamy, disgustingly hot too.

14 DAYS!!!!!!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Laura.....I hope you made it home okay yesterday. Those were some ferocious thunderstorms we had. Woke me up at 3am and didn't stop until 6am. There were power outtages all over the place.

Good luck on the surgery and hope all goes well.

I saw the podiatrist about my broken toe yesterday. He said its healing well but I'm not out of the woods yet. It will be another three weeks. I still have to wear the special shoe but only indoors. Outside I can only wear sneakers. But its a start.

I asked about what to wear at Walt Disney World and the doc said only sneakers - no sandals/flip flops. I'll just stay off the rides that can get me wet as I don't want to be wandering around with wet sneakers.

Still no docs, yet.

I hope you won't have any trouble in WDW, but at least you got the go ahead to wear the sneakers.

The surgery went very well. We were at the hospital at 6:15 and home by 10:30. Thankfully, there was no anesthesia reaction this time. He was quite unhappy when he woke up, in pain, wanting the IV out, the bandage off his eye and just to go home, but that was to be expected. He was feeling alot better by the time we left, enough to ask me about stopping at the McDonalds drive-thru on the way home for breakfast. He's been taking a nap for the last hour or so, a very rare occurrence in this house, so he's still a little out of it, but much better.

And the cruise docs came today, finally, but I'm worrying that there are some problems with them. I posted this to the cruise board too, but basically I'm concerned that there are some problems with the travel booklet. In the travel booklet there are the pages you can tear out. The first one appears to have been torn out already. There's a stub with a little bit of the page on it, but whatever was first is already torn out. I also paid for DCL transfers, for resort to port and port to resort. We're staying at CBR the night before. There's the Airport-Resort/Port transfer coupons. They state to submit them to the representative at the airport, but there's no mention of transfers from the resort. Are these also good for a transfer from the resort? Then we're staying at OKW after the cruise. But there were no transfer coupons from Port/Resort. Should there be?

Also the front cover of the booklet says the cruise contract is contained in the contract section of the booklet, and says to pay special attention to clauses 9 through 23. The last page of the booklet says Cruise and Airline Contracts, but there's no contract or any other information after that. Is the booklet missing pages? I did contact my TA, but haven't heard back from her yet. I'm just wondering if I'm worrying myself about nothing, or if there is a problem.

Laura.....great news about the surgery. When a kid on the way home from surgery asks to stop at McDonald's then you know all is well.

Regarding the cruise docs.....I got out mine from last year. The first page of the tear out part has the word "MAILING INFORMATION" in the upper right hand corner. Is that what yours has?

If you filled out online registration then you got the cruise contract with that. It wasn't included in the mailed cruise docs.

I think at this time you don't get any more transfer coupons. I think we had to call some 800 number to confirm the transfer from WDW to the port then we got a letter telling us time/place/location of the bus to take from WDW to the port. I think you just show up at the bus and check in there.

I don't know about the part after the cruise but I think you just show up at the right bus at the port and check in.

If I remember from two years ago (last time we sailed the Wonder) we got letters delivered to us at WDW with all the transfer information and how to check in for the cruise part while you're at WDW. When you show up at the port you don't have to stop at the counter and check in.

Yes, that's what it has. It's strange though, because there was clearly another page in front of it, there's still a little part of it left. What could have been there?

Hmmm, there wasn't anything about a number to confirm a transfer from WDW to port. I can ask the TA about this. Would they have this info at the cruise desk at the resort?

Was this a land/sea package? We're just staying the night before at the CBR, so I don't think we can do the check-in at the resort, although that would be great.
