~ Aug 2013~ Sew what... We've gotta find a way back! Part I!!

D that Lady and the Tramp bag is GORGEOUS!
So glad Alli is able to go back to school will say a prayer for her today and those around her.
Can't wait to see the Villains bag!

D, I missed the post about Ali going back to school today. I am keeping good thoughts and keeping her in my prayers that it is a smooth and good day for her and all of her classmates.

I love the Lady and the Tramp bag! The fabrics are just perfect! Your appliques amaze me!

Wow! Just caught up from Minnie on.

All the UPB sets are awesome! Especially the Goofy!

Lady and the Tramp messenger is beautiful.

I am very much looking forward to the Villains custom.

V's packing for the park sounds like she will have no problem at college or anywhere else. She's prepared for everything!

Hope Alli had a good day back at school and that healing has started in the community.

I've worked in 'retail' (movie theaters & the attraction I'm at now) Theaters were always open on Thanksgiving, but it was a fairly low turn out. The day after was always funny - to me anyway. Families would come see a movie after spending two whole days together and shopping in the morning and you could tell...they were not wanting to spend anymore quality time. to the point of seperate movies, sometimes! :rotfl:

I thought of you and MM this weekend. DH and I picked up our friends' 6 month old puppy from boarding on Saturday, and he totally exhausted me and we only had him for about an hour. I'm so glad our T is a laid back lazy-boy.

ooooooooooooooooo..............Lady & the Tramp is sooooooooooo CUTE!!

I hope Alli's first day back went smoothly!

Love all the new bags! So hard to pick a favorite...but I'll go with Minnie. Hope your auctions go well. And hope Alli's day at school was back to normal.

By the way, I am sure there are women who would want a princess bag. I would consider it for sure, but my first love is Mickey. If ever I could get two bags, one would definitely be a princess bag.

Hope Allie had a good first day back today.

Can I just say I'm sooooo excitied that he Lady and the Tramp bag is MINE ALL MINE!!!! Just love everything about it!! I'll be sure to post pics of me with it once I get it and of it's first trip to Disneyland for New Year's!! Maybe I should get it it's own 1st visit pin? :rotfl2:

Love the Lady and Tramp set ! Brrrrrrrr cold here this am 21 degrees!

Yes, I definitely remember the Goofy themed dress and skirt you made for V to wear on your trip. I thought they were awesome. I love that Goofy liked them so much that he didn't want to let her leave. The dress is the Oliver + S Ice Cream dress. I recently got that pattern and made a cupcake themed dress with it. It is a cute little pattern and was very easy to put together. I hope that the Goofy dress and skirt will still fit V on your next trip. The way these girls keep growing, you never know what will fit them and what what will be way to small even though it fit yesterday.
I am thinking of doing the Goofy themed dress with that new pattern I got with the pinafore. I have two other dresses already cut out though so it will wait until those are finished.

Yup - it's the O & S Icecream dress... That is a wonderful pattern - however - I had to upsize it at least 3-4 sizes to fit V... It would have been easier if she was smaller. :rolleyes1

I love O and S patterns - I think they are a great intermediate step from Carla C's... They really bring people back to the basics of their sewing skills and concentrate on the simple details - which I love.

I think a Goofy dress from your new pattern would be absolutely ADORABLE!!!! I wish I could get V into a pinafore. :thumbsup2

Your new Pluto bag is great. I can't believe how many cute ideas you have for your bags. I agree with everybody that you need to do some of the villians or some of the princesses. I can't wait to see what you come up with next.

OK - I will think about it. Maybe for some of my upcoming auctions?

It sounds like you had a wonderful weekend. Lots of shopping and some fun time with friends. I haven't been to Kohls in ages. My girls have some gift cards that we should probably use up so maybe I'll take them there one day this week.

We don't go there often anymore either. Especially since we can get way better quality stuff at Hollister cheaper. :thumbsup2

I'd love to go and see MOA some day just because of its size. It must be lots of fun. One of my friends stopped there with her family during their summer vacation. They went to the amusement park inside the mall. She has 5 children and she lost her youngest daughter while they were there. It took them 45 minutes to find her. It was terribly scary and she didn't receive any help from the mall security. It was the wonderful people who were there shopping that banded together to search for her 3 year old daughter. They found her 1/2 way across the mall with a nice grandma type lady who realized that she was lost and was trying to figure out what to do with her.

That is awful! Did they contact the police? The MOA has an entire police force for just the MOA - it's actually considered it's own "city" - not technically - but their police force is an actual police force and not just security.

I am glad they were able to find her.

The Pluto bag is great!

It's good that you know when to take a break and get out of the house instead of chaining yourself to your sewing machine(s)! It's important for your mental health!!

The Lady and the Tramp bag is awesome! Love the fabrics. I love Lady and the Tramp! I had a Lady and the Tramp skirt when I was a little girl and still remember it! (that was a loooong time ago!) Wish I had that fabric now. It was red with L & T all around the bottom as a large border.

I already prayed for Alli this morning that she and her fellow classmates are able to move forward and concentrate on learning and just being regular teens. I know you'll update us when she gets home and will be thinking of her today. And you.

ETA: Just noticed the detail of Scamp's teeth...amazing!!!

THanks Lois... :) Yah - it's nice to get out sometimes... I get to go for a hair cut today. :woohoo:

That's so sweet about your LatT skirt... Do you have pictures of it?

I will do an Alli update at the bottom. :thumbsup2

Glad I could make your day!

I love the Lady and the Tramp bag (of course). There hasn't been a bag that you have made that I haven't liked!

I'm excited to see the villian bag! Both my DH and aunt are all about the villains. When we went to Universal at the beginning of this year, DH got a shirt that says "You say villian like it's a bad thing." He loves that shirt!

Hope your auctions go well this week.

LOL - Thanks! :thumbsup2 I love your DH's shirt.

Wow, Tramp just comes right out at you. The appliques are so beautiful and thanks to Lois for pointing out the fangs on Scamp. I will NOT be showing this to Casey as she loves Lady & the Tramp.

The lining fabric is so cute but I LOVE the striped you used around the bag.

Thanks Liz! Yah - I love that stripe too... It really changes the look of that bag.

Oh....Tramp is soooooooooooooooooo cute.

Thanks Kathy! :lovestruc

LOL about V's packing. And I loved your movie theatre experience... I can totally visualize it.

Yah MM is starting to settle a little bit, but he is definately a still a puppy.

*******************************************

Alli went back to school yesterday. She said it was fairly normal, which is good and exactly what we wanted to hear.

Despite contacting all of her teachers, there were several who didn't give her all of her work - so even after working so hard to catch up, she is behind. I am a little upset about this, because she did work very hard.

This experience also makes me very nervous for our trip next year... If this is how much home work that she had for last week - I am very fearful of what 3 days is going to be. :headache:  It is seriously making me reconsider my trip dates... And I know that sounds awful - but WOW... Alli worked non-stop on homework all week - at least 6+ hours per day to stay caught up... There is no way we will be able to do that kind of work before and after our trip next year - and I am so afraid it will be setting them up for failure. I know we have all these fabulous Dismeets planned... Maybe we can do 2 trips??? LOL Just go down for 4 days over school break in Oct - but do our big trip during the summer?

---------------------> I have some exciting milestone news about my business... As of yesterday, I am officially an LLC! :woohoo: I am super happy about this... It wasn't that hard to do, at all - I assumed it would be.

I wish I could complain here about our local politics, but I can't, so I won't... but let's just say that I want to - and I have valid reason to. :headache: Thankfully it will all be over today, and whatever happens, happens.

I probably won't be spending much time in my sewing room at all today... I have to run to town to get cash... Then I am headed out to get my hair cut - I really need it colored (can we say that teenagers create gray hair?) - but I am trying to hold out until before Christmas to get highlights/lowlights done again - because (as you all know), I am a tightwad. :wizard: Once I am done with my hair, I have to go to town again to get Alli - she has 3 labs and a test that she needs to make up. Then, once Josh comes home from work - we will vote.

I am quite sure I had more to ramble about today. :confused3 But I can't remember what it is. I hope you all have a fantastic day! :wizard:

It has been way too many years since I dealt with this type of stuff for a living... I think I can remember some of the benefits (like insurance) but what are the benefits of being an LLC as opposed to Sole proprietor?

For me...the ease of doing taxes makes SP more appealing than LLC..

Nini

Still love my Pluto bag better!
Looks even better being modeled!!

Glad Alli had a "normal" day back at school. What a bummer that she still has so much work to make up. Schools should really schedule "Disney Breaks" - a random week off in the school year not tied to any holiday so people can go on vacation without big crowds and high prices :rotfl:

We will probably reschedule our Universal trip because my DH decided to insulate our attic and I know he will not have everything done before Thanksgiving. We are having lots of visitors this year who will be staying with us for Thanksgiving so we need to put the house back together and then I need to clean. Oh fun!!!

Congrats on becoming a LLC. :woohoo:

I'm glad the atmosphere at school was better for Alli. It's too bad about the additional work and being behind even after all the hard work she did while at home. I don't blame you for starting to re-think your trip. It's a tough decision.

No, I don't have a picture of my L & T skirt. My Mom probably does, but it would be black and white. I'll see if I can dig one up. That would be a hoot!

Congrats on the LLC! You've hit the big time!

Well, I know one big benefit for being an LLC, is that if you are sued for any reason - the person sueing (is that a word?) can only sue your company and it's assets - they can not come after your personal posessions.

For instance (God forbid)... Someone was carrying one of my bags in the parks, and put it in the stoller with their child, because they no longer wanted to carry it - the child, who then choked on an embellishment/zipper and died. The person could sue me for neglegence - however - they could not sue me "personally" (so, not taking my house/cars/personal posessions) - but they can sue my company and take all of my assets (which I assure you are none). The LLC seperates my personal assets from my business assets, and protects my family.

This was a goal for me to accomplish by the end of the year. And regardless if I am an LLC or not, I still have to file taxes on my profits and itemize to prove my costs - so it does not matter to me either way I do it.

So sorry about the extra work Alli has to do now.

I love your lady and the tramp bag. Congrats on becoming an LLC.

LOL...see my mind thinks entirely differently from that...I see Liability insurance as a cure for the situation you mentioned! (spoken as a true insurance underwriter!)

From what I can remember, SP can file on a schedule C and LLC's can't. Meaning, I can do the taxes myself as an SP, but if I were an LLC I would have to hire an accountant...which drives me crazy when I think about the businesses I used to work for...I did all the work and the accountant got all the money! But since the tax laws change so frequently, I would never be able to keep up with it myself!

Of course, I haven't researched it lately, so I'm not sure if our LLC's had to be done by the accountant because they were complicated or if all LLC's had to be filed differently. I don't remember seeing a spot for LLC's on Schedule C..but then again I am not looking! LOL!

I remember 10 years ago when my husband's business took off, our attorney advised us to keep it as a SP and not go LLC...but I seriously can't remember why!

Anyway...I was just curious about your reasoning... and yes, I tend to ask random business questions like that...just because I am curious! My husband calls me a business junky! I think it has to do with my underwriting background...not sure..but I was always taught to question every thing...so I do...sorry LOL!

Nini

One of my BFFs is an attorney, and she has been bugging me to do this for a very long time. I also happen to know that she is an LLC herself, and she files her own taxes... I guess - even if I had to hire an accountant, I would surely do that (and write it off) to insure that I was filing properly.

Next on my list, is the insurance.

So glad that things went well for Ali at school yesterday; but :crazy2: on the extra work!

 Love all your bags you are making for your Crazy Days:goodvibes

I am so happy to hear that Allie went back to school and your community can get back to some form of normalcy.

Congrats on becoming a LLC :cool1: I am an accountant by profession though not a Tax Expert and always do my taxes. We have rental property and I have always had great luck with Turbo Tax. And I know you can also use it if you are an LLC so you will have be able to do your own.:)

OK lady and the tramp IS my FAVORITE!!!! SO adorable! blah on the work the poor kid. How much more stress can these kids handle!!!
OK going back into hiding...
popcorn::

joining in again. I haven't noticed this tread before now :embarrassed:
Anyway now I'm here and I'm looking forward to follow you again D~ :goodvibes
