~ Aug 2013~ Sew what... We've gotta find a way back! Part I!!

My first question is...are you talking about the Stars and Stripes tickets...or the Military Salute tickets?

There is no limit to Stars and Stripes tickets (we got 10 one year)...but there is only a slight advantage over the tickets at Disney. (you can get them uy to 10 days each)

If you are talking about the Military Salute tickets...the limit is 6 at 4 days each. But you have to buy them at once...meaning, if we get them for 2 people now, we can't use them for 4 people in August... You can activate them later...but you have to purchase them at once.

I love SOG...we have stayed there twice...and since we drive there is no concern for us about the transportation. What I dislike is the fact that you can't add the dining plan to your room.

You do know you can get the Military Salute tickets at POFQ...and STILL get the dining plan....right? There is a special code put in. They do not penalize you for using the military discount and not getting the tickets through them...but you can't get the FREE dining if you use the military discount on room and Military Salute for tickets...

Did I successfully confuse you? LOL!

Nini

PS...yes, long 4 day weekend to celebrate the Princess' 6th birthday. This is what she asked her daddy for...so of course she gets what she wants! LOL...we are thinking about tagging along...just because I want to try out AKL with a Savanna room ...and 4 days would be cheaper than a 10 day regular vacation!

I can't help in the schoolwork discussion, but I can tell you that the heat is not really that big of a deal in the summer as you might think. You are inside SOOOO much at Disney and they really do a good job with "cooling you down" outside with free ice water, fans and misters. I am a person that just doesn't do well in the heat and I did fine in July. The biggest thing in the summer for me was the tour groups :scared1: But I hear they aren't as bad in August???

So sorry to hear about the election. I really hope they don't mess things up too badly.

I feel your pain about planning a trip and taking the kids out of school. I am so afraid of the heat because I remember going to WDW as a kid, probably in mid-July and I think it was really hot and crowded - or it could just be my memory of our home videos. Although I think (?) I could do a better job of maneuvering the parks then my parents did during our one day visit to the Magic Kingdom 20 years ago.

Well... They both want to go in October - for sure.

They both want to stay at FQ - for sure.

Neither of them want to stay at SoG - for sure.

They don't care about school work - for sure.

D~
:rotfl: Well at least you know what the girls think. Your calculations look good. I also googled that conference I mentioned that takes place at the Swan and Dolphin - it is Oct 6 - 10 in 2013 so hopefully discounts would be offered for your dates but I'm not sure what Columbus Day does to that prospect.

Sounds like a good plan!

I feel your town's pain regarding cleaning up financial problems. You may have heard about Jefferson County, AL being the biggest municiple bancrupcy in the USA to date. I live here. Most of the county comissioners that put us in that position are now in jail for various forms of corruption.

Bless you for your service for your community and bless you for being strong enough to keep the re-elected's nose to the grindstone.

High School is tough for the kids and tough for the parents. I don't envy you your decisions here...it's hard enough for DH and I to chime in time. I can't imagine having to work around two school schedules too.

Sorry about the election thing. It must be hard to have worked for your town to try and do what is best, only to have people who don't work hard for the town then criticize the choices that were made. I hope that they don't do more damage than they did in the past.

I am sure you will pick the "right" date that works for you and your girls. We've been to Disney before in the summer and truthfully, we found it hot. And we are from MD where the summers are hot and sticky. My girls' faces are bright red in every picture that I have from that trip. However, they were very little on that trip. Your girls will be much older and you could plan to go late to the parks and stay late into the evenings. Then it would probably be quite pleasant.

Wow that sucks about the election. I do hope it works out okay.

Wish I could help with your date decision. August is one if the few months we have NOT been to WDW but we have been to Florida. No kids with us for that trip. I think we watched quite a few movies at the theater in Universal that trip! Hoping the October dates work out.

Sorry about the election. At least the codes have be rewritten and hopefully they read them and keep up with them.

I got my bag today and love it just as much in person (if not more) as I did in pictures. The colors really work well together and I just love it!!!! :lovestruc

Sorry I'm no help on a trip since my oldest is only in Kindergarten and I'd just take him out no questions asked!! :rotfl2:

I'll weigh in on the October vs August debate. We usually go in September. We've been in the first week up through the last week at different times. It is HOT!!! I take a small misting fan with me and a wash cloth in a baggie that I wet periodically to wipe my neck and face, but after several days, it kinda gets to me. In fact, last Sept. I told my hubby NO MORE! My October experiences are so much better weather-wise! Of course, having said all that, there are no lines in Sept (and late August) which means we can go early, do everything we want, have lunch, ride a bit more then go back to the pool at our resort. After freshening up, we then go back to a park, have dinner and enjoy the evening which is marginally cooler. Love the no waiting!!

As far as school. Four days is a lot to make up. However, if the girls know that they have to make up the work (and Alli has an idea of what that's like already) and they are willing to do what it takes to get the job done, I would think it would be okay to take them in October. They seem to be very responsible for their age and think they would make their school work a top priority. It would probably depend on how long the teachers allow for the work to be handed in. I know as a mom you don't want to do anything that will overburden your girls, but if they go into it with full knowledge that they will be paying a price for their trip and still want to do it, I think you've got your answer. And believe me, I would be stewing over it every bit as much as you are. Good luck!

What a disappointment about the city council! I don't know what people base their decisions on when voting. I really don't! I'm sorry you and the rest of the council were voted out. I know you would do the right thing and make the right decisions. It has to be so frustrating to have to leave with the job well started, but not finished.:sad2: I know you'll keep your eye on things and if those people who have been voted in have any sense at all, they'll be asking you and the other outgoing council members for advise! (fat chance I know!)

Hope you have a great day at Target and that all the people you come into contact with are happy and friendly!:thumbsup2

Thank you Lois. Yes - it was very disappointing. If you would have seen the letter that went out... It was just so full of gramatical errors, and incorrect quotes. If I was going to send out a letter to anyone - I would double check my grammar - at least... And be very sure that everything I was writing & quoting was accurate... :rolleyes1

As I work for County government, I feel your pain with the elections. They are always an anxious time for the employees. There was one Commissioner elected this time that I'm worried about. I'm hoping he doesn't turn out as incompetent as he looks on paper. At least it's only one.

As it looks like my October trip is tenitively back on, I hope you guys come then! But of course you have to do what is best for your girls.

I hope your new Commissioner works out... That is a very important position - and I don't think that some people realize that, and they just check a box.

This made my day!!!!

LOL :cool1:

Well that doesn't help with your decision does it

Not really... Well, actually, it does.

My first question is...are you talking about the Stars and Stripes tickets...or the Military Salute tickets?

Thanks for taking the time Nini...

I was actually referring to the 4 day tickets only available to the military through the end of Aug (or is it Sept?). I knew I could get 5 of them, and activate them back to back - but I thought I needed Josh to activate the 6th one?

We like SoG too - we stayed there in 2008... But when I told the girls we could go for 10 days at the end of summer, at SoG... They were like... NO WAY. I guess it's FQ or nothing. :confused3

I did not realize that about the discount. But if the discount doesn't get extended, that won't help us much if we go in Oct? :crazy2:

That's what I hate about this - I really need a discount... and I am afraid I won't have one for MONTHS yet. :headache:

I can't help in the schoolwork discussion, but I can tell you that the heat is not really that big of a deal in the summer as you might think. You are inside SOOOO much at Disney and they really do a good job with "cooling you down" outside with free ice water, fans and misters. I am a person that just doesn't do well in the heat and I did fine in July. The biggest thing in the summer for me was the tour groups :scared1: But I hear they aren't as bad in August???

Thanks Suzi... I was thinking the heat would be better in Aug, because we'd be coming from heat and humidity, so the shock would be less. :confused3 Yah - those tour groups... I don't think I could handle that.

Sounds like a good plan!

Thanks Liz. Yah - that heat does scare me, but I am sure you could maeuver the parks better than your parents - you should have seen Josh and I on our frist trip... :scared: We nearly starved the entire week, because we had NO IDEA how much food cost in the parks. :crazy2: Yes, we were "those people"... Got to the parks at 11am... Went to the right in every line...

I feel your town's pain regarding cleaning up financial problems. You may have heard about Jefferson County, AL being the biggest municiple bancrupcy in the USA to date. I live here. Most of the county comissioners that put us in that position are now in jail for various forms of corruption.

Thank you. Yes, I have heard of your area - I would be so enraged if I were you - as I am sure the people in your area are.

Sorry about the election thing. It must be hard to have worked for your town to try and do what is best, only to have people who don't work hard for the town then criticize the choices that were made. I hope that they don't do more damage than they did in the past.

I think we could make it work out... I just dunno... Have you ever heard of anyone having such a hard time making a simple decision like this? :confused3

Wow that sucks about the election. I do hope it works out okay.

Thanks! Yah - I am not sure I like the idea of the heat.

I can't wait to see an Eeyore bag too! I bet it will be adorable

Thanks... I am not sure when I will get to it though - but it's good to know that people are interested in Eeyore.

Sorry about the election. At least the codes have be rewritten and hopefully they read them and keep up with them.

Thanks for your input Lois... I really appreciate it. :thumbsup2

********************************************

Well, I've come to a place of being OK with the election results. I debated seriously of even putting my name on the ballot this time around. The last year has been very stressful - and so much work... The only reason I put my name on the ballot, is because - in past years - no one has wanted the job. I assumed that this election would be the same. And more than anything, I want our town to continue to be their own town - if we don't have enough officers to run it - it would just be absorbed into the Township. :sad2: So, in light of what has happened, I am really OK with not being elected.

Also, I am at a position where I feel things like this are in God's hands. And things like this happen for a reason - this is how God wanted it to be. It is only fair that the people who made stupid mistakes a decade ago, are now left with issues that they created, which cannot be left alone anymore, and decisions must be made. Turn about is fair play. Better them than me. :confused3

So, I am at a much better place with it now. Sometimes I just need a few moments to stew and process. :coffee: But thank you everyone for letting me vent and consoling my hurt feelings.

*******************************************

I still have not come to a final conclusion about our trip dates, however, I do find it very unexciting when I ask my girls' opinion, and they are no longer excited about the trip. Which means... I am pretty sure we are back to October, and FQ... :rolleyes1 I am a mom - and I just have to weigh all the options, ya know?

*******************************************

My auctions are going well, I am pleased. And everyone is getting a long. :dance3: I was a bit worried that I would get confused, but I've been getting everything ready to mail out as I go along - and so far, I am not confused. :cheer2: I am hoping, by the end of the year, I have a good chunck of this trip paid off.

However... We are having issues with our hot water heater... It is still under warranty for a few more weeks - so Josh is calling the manufacturer today to get the parts - hopefully it won't be anything too major.

Our dishwasher also started making funny noises the other day...

So, I may need to dig into my trip funds to purchase a new dishwasher. :headache: But at least I have that option... It could be worse.

I will be in my sewing room all day today - appliqueing. If I get done early enough, I will start assembling. popcorn::

I hope you all have an amazing day today!

D~

I'm sure you will find out when to go to Disney. Whether it is in the summer or in October for Halloween. Personally I would never go in the summer because I can't stand the heat.

I hope you can get your hot water heater fixed without it costing you too much. If you get it on the warranty that would be great :cool1:

It's not good that the dishwasher is starting to make bad sounds as well. But if you get the water heater fixed on the warranty it won't be that much money going out even if you have to buy a new dishwasher.

OK...the military Salute tickets, you can actually get all 6 of them without Hubby being there...as long as you have your ID card. They are good through the end of September.

I know some people say you can't...but I can tell you I have done it twice....without any problems. Once I got them at Shades of Green and once at the TTC at MK. (but of course, at the TTC at MK you have to pay tax!) Plus, if you go in September you will probably be able to get the MNSSHP tickets at the TTC as well at a great discount....

Nini

What a great perspective on the folks who created the town council to be left to clean up the mess they made now! So sorry for your loss, but I agree...God has a reason. :goodvibes

I won't make ANY comments on the possibilty of you switching back to October....:cool1: :dance3: :yay:

What? :confused3 I didn't say a word...:rolleyes1 :littleangel:

Thank you... that means a lot that you understand. I guess, if I could even tell you half of the story - you'd be shocked beyond belief... I just pray our town survives this fiasco.

I have no idea when we are going to get to WDW... but we will get there. LOL

D~

Oh, I'm sure we could swap some stories! I'm not so sure I would be that shocked. Our Board of Commissioners is undergoing a Grand Jury investigation and a Forensic Audit right now!

I'm glad you have made peace with losing the election. I've come to learn that some things are just out of our hands.

I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason. We may not be able to see it while we're in the middle of the mess, but there will be illumination in the end and you'll be able to see where, as my DH says, "God had your back."

Can't wait to see the new bag.

DH has taken some time off from work and so I'm getting NOTHING done in the sewing room. I need to start booking it on Christmas presents.

..and yeah, Jefco residents are pretty irritated.

That is good to know... Now I wonder if they will extend the offer? There has been some sort of military promo going on for years - hopefully they will do something that works for us.

I won't make ANY comments on the possibilty of you switching back to October....

What? :confused3 I didn't say a word...

Yah - I just had to wash my hands of it. However - I will update below.

Again - we are leaning towards Oct... Pfft to school and homework... :rolleyes1

Eeek... That's not good.

I do have an election update to report...

I like your DH's reasoning. :)

I know how you feel - I never get anything accomplished with DH here either, he is so distracting. :confused3

Thank you Diane - I hope so too. If not - I just may need to do another set of auctions. :thumbsup2

*************************************************

I will update on Alli's school, since I haven't done that in a few days. Everything appears to be back to normal - which is good.

Josh went with her to conferences last night. They went well, but she has one class she is really struggling in. That teacher has really high expectations of his students, and it kind of caught her off guard.

*************************************************

Election update...

I had an interesting phone call last night. The Mayor called me to notify me that my seat ended in a tie - not all the write-in votes were for the same person. We are trying to find out the process of how to do the mandatory recount. And from there, if it still ends in a tie, what the process is to determine the winner.

I am certain, no matter how it ends up, it will be determined fairly and legally.

************************************************

Sad story...

I was just finishing up in my sewing room yesterday when I heard sirens. I don't normally pay much attention - so I didn't. On my way downstairs, I noticed a helicopter circling. So, I went outside to discover Sheriffs everywhere! They were landing the helicopter in the baseball field across the street. So, I walked up the hill by the church - and sure enough, about a quarter mile out of town there was an accident - police cars lined up everywhere!

A neighbor and I stood out there for a while and chatted. It was a while, eventually we saw them load up the ambulance at the accident scene to bring the person to the life link. They weren't moving very fast - no lights, no sirens. They transferred the person to the helicopter and they both left. So, my neighbor and I went home.

About an hour later, I heard another helicopter. So, I walked back up the hill - I assumed they were done earlier, but there were still about 10 sheriffs out by the accident scene. It turns out the second helicopter was the news station.

At times like this, you just pray that it's no one you know.

Back story...

Part of the reason I have not been working so much at Target, is that this summer, the house kitty-corner behind us was purchased by a local farmer for his daughter. His daughter is a nice lady, but her boyfriend and the people that hang around are no good. I wasn't working at Target as much, because I didn't want the girls home alone all summer with these people and their friends hanging around. We suspected drug dealing, and there were also burgularies and break ins in the area - which we suspected they were involved in - one way or another.

These people are also careless... They really enjoy doing burn outs and whipping ****ties all over town - day and night... kids around. Just not good neighbors. At their old house in the country (I pass it every day on my way to work) - there are tire marks and skid marks all over the road.

Many people in town have called the Sheriff on many occasions because of their carelessness.

So, last night, I got a call. The person driving the truck in the accident (the one I saw get airlifed) was the above neighbor. His passenger (the one who died) was one of his friends - it was actually the one who most concerned the town.

Upon the release of their names on the news, I looked up their public arrest record - and it is so much worse than I ever suspected it could have been. Drugs, burgularies, assults and more - pages worth.

I thank God that they didn't have the kids in the truck with them.

I feel horrible about this, but to be honest - it was only a matter of time. Driving recklessly is just dumb - I don't know how else to say it?

The local paper reported that there was alcohol involved. The news station claims the accident also involved high speeds.

The portion of the highway where the accident occured is immediately following the speed change from 30mph to 55mph. This highway is also known locally as "rollercoaster road", because of all the hills and valleys... It can be quite dangerous.

I have so much more I would love to say about this - but I just don't want to bore you all. There has just been so much death around us lately.

If you would like to read the news story - here's the link: http://www.kare11.com/news/article/997629/396/Dakota-Co-crash-victims-IDd

*********************************************

I have no trip news to update with.

I plan to finish my latest bag today. I hope to have pictures up this afternoon - depending on what time I finish.

Oh - I also wanted to share... Alli posted this on my FB page last night - I thought it was funny, because it describes me to a T:

Have a wonderful day everyone.

D~

happy Alli is going okay at school and things have settled a bit!

hope you don't need to replace the dishwasher!

good luck on the recount!

oh my on the accident, people are so stupid and careless...sad for their families!

love the e-card!!!

:rotfl2: "The kids are still alive. Say thank you." :rotfl2: Love it!

So glad things seem to be back to normal at Alli's school...hope it stays that way.

Hopefully that accident will wake the other ones up a little. Sad that it takes a death to open someone's eyes, but that's the way it always seems to happen :worried:
