Attention Mothers: How did you get your "Body" back?

Re-lactate! :lmao:

Seriously, nursing just melted the pounds away for me, particularly past the fourth month.
Wow, I wish this worked for me! I nursed for 9 mos. and lost very little weight until after I stopped. Nursing really made me hungrier! :confused3

Get plenty of calcium. Your doctor should recommend the best method.

As the baby develops, calcium is taken from the mother's bones to form the baby's bones. This process happens silently and decades later the mother is horrified to find out she has osteoporosis.

In many Chinese families, the mother after childbirth (during as well would probably have been better) gets to enjoy a delicacy, sweet and sour pigs' feet. The sauce made with vinegar acquires a lot of calcium from the pig bones. (I don't recall how often it was served.)

If you buy calcium fortified orange juice or other fruit juice, shake the container before every serving. Otherwise the calcium settles to the bottom as an unappetizing residue that gets discarded.

Ok, so I have read ALL the posts. This is what I have learned from all the great advice:

1) WW really works!
2) Only a few cheers for Curves
3**) Extended Breastfeeding
4) Dancing with the kids
5) a Pedometer (step counter)
6) Healthy eating
7) Go to the Gym
8) Cardio Workouts/Treadmill
9) Keeping a food journal
10)Did I forget anything??

All the above is great advice! **I have even considered re-lactating as a PP mentioned. Is that possible? DS would love it if I could possibly/actually regain my milk supply!!???? I would just hate to confuse him or tease him. I do have some milk still, but not nearly what I had once... Even still, is it fair just to nurse my son for sake of my weightloss???

:surfweb: I went on a partial fast last week - I know, I know, its a horrible and unhealthy thing to do, or so some/alot have told me. I did it more for the so-called additive free diet. I am hypoglycemic (low blood sugar), so I am unable to 100% fast for100% of the time. I would not be fit to live with and DH would kill me and my attitude) I incressed my water and juice in take, drastically lowered my carbs and only ate sauteed fresh veggies for dinner with a small protine lunch! And I saw results by the end of the week. Nothing drastic, but my jeans were a little baggier. :cheer2:

 I think that I would very much like to live an additive free /low additive life for a little while and see just what happens. But its hard with a busy life style... I get home from work 3 nights at about 5:30, run the roads picking up kids here and there, DH works til 6/7 pm everynight... Its almost impossible to eat and keep everything fresh all week long.... A majority of our diets these days are boxed, canned, frozen or processed in one way shape or another. But I think this is something I will really sink my teeth into. I realized it this summer when I was pregnant and we went to Mexico with my family. Everything was cooked and prepared frsh everyday, and I very rarely saw an obese mexican woman or european woman. But they seem to eat fresh things everyday and do not eat much processed or prepared foods.

I am very aware and conscious of what I eat and want to be sure I do the best I can. Walking/Running here in New Hampshire is almost impossible... it was -3' this AM when we left for school at 8:30. No thanks! I ski with my sons school once a week and don't sit down each night til at least 9:30 or so, between making lunches, doing laundry, pickingup the house and this and that.....:yay:... that must count for something?? :teacher:

I will address this some. Yes I know you can do it, and if DS still remembers how (he should) it should be fine. There are a number of things you can do to increase milk supply, but I don't know them off the top of my head. Maybe someone else does. If not I know a few websites that will give you the info needed.

"Now as far as is it fair to him to nurse just so you can loose weight?" The reason you are doing it doesn't really mater to the baby. He still is getting the best nutrition possible and the antibodies when he is ill. So no mater what your reason is, he still wins. (Win, Win if you ask me.) Now it may or may not work for you for weight loss, but there are other benefits too. ;)

Now if you are still nursing him only for the sake of weight loss when he is 5 years old and not offering other drinks in addition, we might have a problem. :rotfl: (like the on Desperate Housewife's.)

I have to agree - there is a woman here in town that I know who still nurses her daughter. SHE IS 4 IN FEBRUARY! The little girl calls them Chi Chi's...!!?? and ask for Chi Chi's several times a day... I will never look at salsa the same again!:rotfl: :confused3 My middle son is a week younger than she is and I can't even imagine still nursing him!! The day that he walks or rides his bike up to me and says "Hey Mom, I'm thrirsty!" , picks up my shirt and latches on.....would be ... I don't even know. To each their own, but to me thats just weird!!! No flames please, just a matter of opinion! :scared1: :surfweb:

I think I remember hearing somewhere that Chi Chi's is slang for breasts. I don't know about this, anyone who knows more about spanish?

Na, but it sure can help getting over it fast. ;) Did you know that breast milk actually makes antibodies when the child nurses? I am still amazed by that.

I always thought the Chi Chi's people where making fun of Americans. :lmao:

Good luck with your little one. Having a sick baby is never easy. You just want so badly for them to be better. :grouphug:

yeah, the real kicker of it all is that Dear Husband just said that he is getting sick too!!! :sad2:   I think they are worse than sick infants!! Can anyone else sympathize with that?? :confused3

Thanks again for all the advice - any words of wisdom on replenishing my milk supply??? :surfweb:

That bites. Have you tried anything like cold snap, zicam or airborne. I have had great luck with them.

This board in the breast feeding section will have a lot of help.

This web site has tons of info too.

Good luck.

Let me know if you can't find it, I can look more. I know my friend had luck with some herbs. The best thing to do is nurse. Keep nursing if you have any milk and you will make more. Try nursing 1st, then follow up with a bottle until you feel your supply has improved. That way you know he is getting enough. Drink lots of water and get rest (I know it isn't possible, but they suggest it. ;) )

You can do it! If you are still nursing or producing milk at all you can bring your supply back up. I do know some people have come back from being dry, after nursing previous children and then nursing an adopted baby, so it can happen. Drink lots of water, try fenugreek(an herb). If you have a natural foods store or Doctor of Osteopathy near you they should be able to recommend something too. A good lactation consultant should be able to help too. When my twins were first born they had a very hard time latching on (I was wearing an H cup when my milk came in and they were only 5 and 6 pounds, and arrived early too) Anyhoo, I was pumping and supplementing with formula. I really hated that I was supplementing with formula and as they got a bit older and bigger I wanted to get them to exclusive nursing. The best way to do it is to just nurse- A LOT! Your body won't make what it doesn't need and if you've been basically giving it a clue to slow down, well, it will. If all of a sudden you're nursing five times a day, within a few days your body should catch back up to that. My lactation consultant always said that the best way to get your body back up to speed, or to handle an increased demand due to a growth spurt, is to take a day and snuggle baby in bed all day. Drink lots of water, get lots of rest, nurse on demand. Try to get through it without resorting to a bottle. Your body should catch up pretty quickly. Since your son is only three months that is in your favor for being able to get things started again and to possibly see the most benefits from nursing since he doesn't yet need any other foods.

Oh man, I hear you on that. I have problems with blood sugar and when I bottom out it is not a pretty thing. DH has gotten to the point that he can recognize it and he is like, you need to eat. Sometimes I will fight him because I don't want to :sad2: but once I do eat something and the sugar comes up and reason sets in, he is usually right, but don't tell him I said that:rolleyes1

We try really hard to eat as few processed foods as possible but in our culture where convenience foods are prevalent it is really hard sometimes.

Oh man, the sick husband is worse than anything. I swear as soon as I get sick (I tend to catch everything) DH starts whining about how sick he feels and how he is getting it too.

Good luck with the nursing!

I have 5 kids, 2 businesses, and I go to school part-time so I work out mostly at home now. I bought a used gym off of Craigslist to do my heavy and light strength workouts and I bought a used treadmill and elliptical for my cardio days off of ebay. I also use my jogging stroller for walks and jogs. I do go to the gym when my schedule lightens up.

I also have a collection of exercise DVDs and videotapes. I still use my Firm tapes, Taebo, Cathe Friedrich, and others. One of my favorite sites is www.videofitness.com .

Many busy moms like me and from my fave fitness forums work out when their children are asleep at night or before they awaken and before work. I used to do that, but now my family exercises together. Many folks don't like to work out at home, but I do because it is convenient and I rotate my program from getting stale. It is also a family activity. I want my kids to be fit and healthy, too.

I did slip for a while because of a family crisis and then my dh was unemployed, but I brushed myself off and got right back up. ;)

Working out at home might work for you, too. GL! :wizard:

Lactation will continue indefinitely if nursing continues. The demand placed on the body for calcium (milk contains calcium you know) will also continue. See my post regarding calcium higher up. Conversely the "drying up" of the breasts is the direct result of the child's having been weaned from an all milk diet. Should an infant be unable to breast feed and go on the bottle temporarily, the breasts must be pumped manually (another family member's mouth works fine if the subject infant is not going to consume the milk) to prevent the milk production from slowing down.

Lactose intolerance is actually considered the rule with the ability to consume milk into adulthood considered the exception. Lactose intolerance on average occurs earlier in life among Asian peoples. Once in awhile lactose intolerance is found to commence before the normal age of weaning (I think my niece had that but no one knew at the time) and a doctor's assistance and/or Lactaid (tm) medication is needed.

>>> rides his bike up to me and says "Hey Mom, I'm thrirsty!" , picks up my shirt and latches on ...
Please, for his sake, not in public. Otherwise his friends will think he is queer.
