Atlantis Closer To Happening

Its going to be developed at some point,,,we have all been spoiled up to now.....no NIMBY is allowed. Disney knew when they bought and built.

No one is suggesting the land remain undeveloped. It’s too valuable and it is a resort area after all. I just think the scope and the design are what can and should be of concern. Not only from an Aulani guest perspective but also from an area resident perspective - can the area handle the influx of people from a mega resort such as what was previously proposed?

Have you seen how big Aulani is ? Towers over 4 seasons next door.

Agreed but I think the mega resort flag of Ko Olina has been flown. By Aulani. That doesn’t mean build another Ko Olina mega resort.
Aulani should be viewed as the anchor tenant of the area. Its about balance.

There are no real "residents" in the area. The entirety of Ko Olina is a planned resort development which doesn't really affect the residents of nearby Kapolei all that much.

I think you're confused on the timeline. There was ALWAYS supposed to be another resort on that parcel. This isn't something new that's being added, it's something that was always supposed to be there that's currently missing.

No confusion, I just don’t think the neighboring resort should be as big or bigger than Aulani. It would be a net negative to the destination as a whole if that is what is built.
Think of Baha Mar (ironically the better iteration of Atlantis). The Grand Hyatt is the anchor, flanked by a smaller Rosewood and SLS.

The proposed resort is nowhere near the size of Aulani. It's supposed to have 500 rooms. Aulani has over 800, and many of those are villas that sleep up to 9.

They would be set to use both. Would spread out the crowds a bit.
Even if they did use both lagoons, it is not that big a deal. Have you ever seen the beach crowded? I haven't. I have seen most the chairs full, but never too many people swimming and playing in the water. Not at any of the lagoons.
Having another resort built next door will have no entertainment impact at Aulani. It will have impact trying to shop/eat off site, but that is about it.

I’ve said my peace on this. You’re responding with inaccurate info. Here’s what was proposed. It’s too big, especially with what’s already on that beach.

That article is 8 years old. China Oceanwide Holdings went bankrupt in 2023. They no longer own the property.
I doubt anyone has any real data on what is being planned right now. Either way, big or small, it doesn't really matter. Not much will change for the average Aulani guest.

I think we all knew this was coming eventually. That plot of prime real estate wouldn't stay empty forever. The only real impacts to most people will be the view and crowds in the Ko Olina restaurants. Some of the island and partial ocean view rooms on that side of the resort will now be looking at the new resort instead. I don't think crowding at the lagoon will be much of a problem because they'll set up their own chairs and activities, and I don't think vehicle traffic will be any different than now.

I hope the new resort looks nice; I wouldn't want an I-4 eyesore sitting next to Aulani. But I don't think it'll be an issue.

Oh totally agreed, my point was just that whatever new crowds Atlantis is going to bring will be mostly on the lagoon to the south based on the other renderings I had seen, with some space on the northern lagoon as well. They get both with that specific lot.

And yes, crowds are never a problem at the beach. I find that most Aulani goers stay camped at the pool, which is fine by us, because we spend as much time as possible in the lagoon and beach area.
