This morning on the news they mentioned that since this is a "state of emergency" all absentee rules should be adjusted. Please have him check with HR.
He should check with his HR department to see whether this would hold true under these extreme circumstances. Our roads are simply impassable. How could any employer realistically expect anyone to get to work? Seriously.
thank you both
the foreman he talked to said he couldn't tell him not to come to work, but that he didn't blame him for calling in. the plant is open, and there are a few people there (the ones who live nearby), but not many. the HR director is a facebook friend, i think i'll send her a message and see if it counts against him. the problem is, the state DOT didn't list the roads as closed (just "impassable), but our county EMA did-the conflict is the sticking point. but you're right, robin, the whole state is under a state of emergency, so maybe that will help. we'll see! no matter what, at least he's safe. the bonus isn't worth it, and the point will be erased from his record in 6 months.

this is for everyone who has experienced a milk and bread run before a winter storm! (the teenage girl in the pic is in the HS marching band with my DD-this pic won best snow picture on our local newscast, ROFL)
