Atlanta, have you made your milk & bread run?

Ok the place I am interviewing has a 2 hour delay they are open. One of the highways I need to take thre is closed. I feel obligated to show up but this means ignoring my common sense. Ugh.

If the highway is closed, then the highway is closed.

Just because they are open, doesn't mean everyone can get there safely. If they have no concept of that then they are very unrealistic.

just had to share a fun pic with y'all :rotfl: this is for everyone who has experienced a milk and bread run before a winter storm! (the teenage girl in the pic is in the HS marching band with my DD-this pic won best snow picture on our local newscast, ROFL)

That is hilarious!!!

My DD14 also went out in the snow in short sleeves and flip flops, but we never thought of posing with the milk - that's totally inspired! ROTFL!!!

Which university? I'm sure the school closings for tomorrow will begin posting soon. Just a few minutes ago it was snowing AGAIN! So now, I am officially tired of this. If we had the equipment to handle it, that would be fine, but I don't like being totally shut down.

UGA - Athens campus, not sure about anywhere else. DD's school hasn't posted closings yet; I think the novelty of snow days is wearing off (for both of us :rolleyes1). No mail today either I think, Amazon's sent me a message saying my package via UPS will be delayed a few days also.

I know just what you mean. The kind of snow events we usually have entail a day and a half of 1" snow on the ground, with roads clear in 24 hours. Two days later, we're back in the 70s and life goes on. This is just a mess! Did ya'll see the back up on I-285? Fifteen MILES of 18-wheelers, most of whom have been there for over 24 hours now. I know those guys(and gals) must be just about desperate by now. They said that state patrol officers were out there breaking up the 4" of ice on the road with sledge hammers! Lots of trucks have come up from other parts of the South with gravel and salt, but it's not nearly enough. I heard on the news this morning that north Georgia has over 1800 lane-miles of interstate alone! It's going to be the weekend before it melts enough for most of us to freely come and go.

I was thinking about heading down to the Gulf Coast for a few days, since school will probably not go back in session until next week. But who knows how long it would even take us to get out of metro Atlanta?:confused3 I sure as heck don't want to get stranded on the highway with Christian and DH with all their issues  Guess we'll just sit tight.

My daughter's college, Oxford/Emory. is still "assessing" the situation. (That has been their favorite word since Sunday! :confused3) They did finally say to use your best judgment in returning to school. With Emory/Oxford, there are so many kids who are from far away and rely on air travel. Most of them are now getting flights pushed back to Saturday or Sunday. How do you have classes with NO STUDENTS there to fill the seats????

Just read in the paper that the city doesn't have enough salt. They are hoping to send some trucks to pick some up today, but even with that, they will still be way short of the salt they need. Currently (with what these trucks bring) they only have enough salt for maybe 2 days of a moderate snow event... and we are forecasted to get snow today and tomorrow.

Luckily, we don't have to deal with the city. We actually get much better removal out here where we are covered by the county.

School called off for tomorrow.

The captives are getting a bit restless. *sigh*

I know what you mean. Christian is just about going crazy with boredom. He's still confined to a wheelchair or bed, recovering from his hip fracture. I'm hoping we can get him to the doctor on thursday for his surgeon appt. Once he's xrayed, if the hip has healed, he'll be allowed to walk. I know if he could just walk around, he'd feel better. Heck, if we could just get him upstairs to the shower, he'd be thrilled! Oh well, we'll live. At least we haven't lost power.

On the other hand DD17 is having the tme of her life. All 3 of her BFFs have gathered in our neighborhood and they are going from house to house having fun. They're sledding, building snowmen, having sleepovers, watching horror movies. They just finished making pot stickers in my kitchen.

I am the one getting restless at my house.

The kids are fine. They love being out of school. I really wanted them to go back tomorrow. They've already lost Presidents Day off, the day they were going to be out of school in March and I've no idea when they'll make up tomorrows day off. And since it's going to be too cold for a good thaw, I won't be surprised if they are home on thursday too.

And my husband needs to get to work. He's driving me nuts. Somebody save me!!!!!

I know. I've got too much husband around here. We're about to get on each other's nerves.

Mike and I are dying from cabin fever.:rolleyes1

My uncle could care less, as long as the tv is running soap operas and syfy, he's HAPPY! :rotfl:

My office had to work via laptops and phones today, we had to teleconference with NY and Houston to get the work done. Whether I'm snowed in or not I still have a deadline, and that deadline is Weds at 1pm! :scared1:

Push come to shove I have to make it in tomorrow. I have a FIVE MINUTE commute and I still can't get in. My employees live MILES away so I expect to be doing their work, too.

All Mike can talk about is how he can't see his "girlfriend" and hearing them whine is getting on my last nerve...:scared:

Get me OUT OF HERE!!!!!!:3dglasses

We ran out of milk today :scared1: :scared1: Still stuck at home here in Flowery Branch

The ice has melted off the streets down here, however my husband has to report to his school by 9a.m. And students don't come until 11. There a also counties further south who have continued to call off school as they have been without power.

Hey, I'm in Flowery Branch too!!

Also stuck at home. Our street is a sheet of ice. I'm working from home, but DH really needs to get to work (in Tucker)...won't be happening at least for a few hours.

Made it out of the house for the first time since Sunday. :yay: We went to Publix (which was wiped out) and stopped for lunch at a Mexican restaurant (mmmm... margarita). Main roads here in Kennesaw are drivable but most of the secondary roads still have lots of ice. Cobb County schools are out AGAIN tomorrow.

amyren--Hi neighbor!

amyren is correct-- could get out today but some of the side roads not passable (and everything re-freezes at night). Most schools in the area are out tomorrow for day FOUR--glad I don't have kids school age any more :goodvibes

The news keeps carrying coverage of the interstates and all the problems they are having. I love when they interview someone "stuck" in their car complaining about the roads not being done yet--DUH you've been asked not to get on the roads--they can't plow through you (although they should).

My work has been closed but since I have a telework agreement in place I have to telework every day. No "snow days" for me.

Just had on Fox 5 Atlanta, they were in some smallish grocery store and while they were there the storw was getting a delivery of beer. The delivery guy was interviewed while he rolled in cases and I quote " Got to get the beer to the people who need it":rotfl2:

No school tomorrow. I wonder what their plan is for make up days because our county does not build them into the calender.

We don't use a lot of milk so we will be fine and I thought in advance and put some bread in the freezer. Which was a good idea because by the pics on the news some stores still don't have any.

Schools here in Forsyth are now closed Thursday and Friday. Monday is MLK day, so no school till Tuesday!

No milk or bread in any stores and I'm almost out! A tiny bit of panic is starting to set in. Or it may be the cabin fever taken hold!
