Atlanta, have you made your milk & bread run?

We have 8 inches and counting right now. My old employer just call ask can I come to work. Is she crazy. I told here no. I am off from new job because of snow and staying home.

Unless it is a life and death situation (doctors, nurses, EMTs, fire, ect) I don't understand bosses who want to put their employees in danger. Heck, we got less snow then many places and even our MALL opened 3 hours late because it just was not safe this morning. My well being and safety is more important then any job and I have actually told bosses this.

I drove into work last night (NICU physician north of Atlanta). We have people camping out in all the lounges and offices. I'm prepared for 3-4 days. It doesn't look too bad out right now, just a lot of slush on the ground (of course, all I can see is parking lots), but I think its going to get worse as it freezes down.

I'd say we got 3-4", DD had a lot of fun playing in it this morning while DH shoveled the driveway. We found an old pair of snow boots that used to be mine in high school and she tromped around everywhere. The paper online said that the main roads were closed, as is the mall and I just got an email that UGA will be closed tomorrow also. DD's school hasn't posted anything yet about closings for tomorrow, but I can't imagine they'll be open. We're lucky, we live within walking distance but there's a lot of kids who get bussed in daily. I'm scheduled to work at 9am and have a feeling they'll be open and I'll be expected to head in but we'll see.

My girls got out the beach toys and built "snow" castles.

I know I so glad that got fire from that job. I don't know what to do. There is no reason with them. They is always right. I just hang up the phone of them. My new job is awesome and love it.

I don't have work tomorrow they already call it off. Yes. Me and kids me at home together.

Actually Hamilton Place Mall and Northgate Mall is closed too.

for the first time EVER, my DH had to call and report off work. he has never laid out of work, and he's been at this job 20 1/2 years. i feel bad because he'll lose his attendance bonus and likely get a point on his employee record (3 points and you're fired), but i'm grateful he went ahead and called in-i'd rather he be safe here at home.

The roads here are still horrible. . .a mixture of hard-packed snow that the plows can't get and slush on the edges. It's 29 degrees right now. . .in the morning they'll be like a skating rink! We're getting the sleet and freezing rain mix right now, so I hope we still have power in the morning! There's so much snow on the trees, it won't take much ice to start breaking them.

I just checked the radar and they are saying we will have ice/snow starting tonight about 7pm for about an hour. Then it will change to snow for pretty much the rest of the night. We currently have something like 6" on the ground and it's just not going to let up. I am really worried about the evening and morning drives. Luckily I don't have to go anywhere, but people around here just don't GET it.

Exactly! We have folks up here who are driving around just for fun. I hope they get off the roads once it starts getting dark and STAY HOME!

DD17 just came back to the house with her girlfriends. They rooted around in the basement until they found our old plastic sleds--they are 17-20 year old sleds, that's how long those things last down here. Last time we broke the sleds out was probably 1996. It's kinda fun watching the teenagers having sled races down our street.:goodvibes

It's gonna be a long week around here. We can't get Christian out in the snow. DH can't be out in the cold much. Our nurses can't make it out of their own homes(not that I expect them to come here in this icy mess!) Haven't heard from DS24 at all, but i hope that no news is good news. As nasty and icy as it is out there, I doubt we'll be back in school before Thursday. There are exactly 11 salt trucks operating in my county. Eleven. They will probably not make it to the subdivisions at all, just the main arteries.

I'm just so grateful that we haven't lost power! We would be in a mess around here. It's about 63 degrees in my house , but we have plenty of blankets and wooly clothes. :goodvibes This event serves to remind me why we do NOT want to move to North Dakota.

I tried to call in - the interstates and state highways are officially "impassable" and we live on a pretty steep hill, which now has 1.5 inches of ice covered with an inch of snow and another 1/2 inch of ice...but they need me and are sending someone in a 4 wheel drive truck to pick me up. O-kay.

Wow. It must be nice to feel needed but that is crazy!

Be safe!

This morning on the news they mentioned that since this is a "state of emergency" all absentee rules should be adjusted. Please have him check with HR.

You gonna slide down the hill on your behind to get to the truck ?! I can just picture that ;)

Yea... tell them good luck on the ice.

I grew up in Northern IL so I am actually used to driving in the snow. However, the difference down here is that it usually isn't JUST snow. We get a lot more ice then we ever got up there. On top of that, areas in the south are just not as prepared to deal with these weather events. That adds up to a lot less snow causing a lot more problems.

And.. it is snowing... again.

He should check with his HR department to see whether this would hold true under these extreme circumstances. Our roads are simply impassable. How could any employer realistically expect anyone to get to work? Seriously.

Here in the Augutsta area, I say we got 2"-3," however most of it is frozen and is ice. Our subdiviison is also iced over, although the hubster decided to make a Wal-Mart run which is close to our house. We live in a suburb of the Augusta area, so there is no major traffic out this way. Thankfully, since this suburb is gorwing (Grovetown -- due to being next door to Ft. Gordon) they were smart enough to build a Wal-Mart out this way. Now, if I only had a Starbucks........

My husband got called off for work again tomorrow (Louisville/Jefferson County schools). Louisville, is about 45 mins south of us, and while they did not get any snow, they got ice. My husband is happy. He's been complaining lately about his classroom being cold and being on a timer that he cannot override, so now he gets to stay home. He has a great work ethic, and has been teaching for 8 years now, but I am started to realize that when given the chance to stay home, he would take it.

I'm starting to wonder. He's still not here, and it's been 2 1/2 hours. Two different police officers, one with a 4WD truck, ventured to the hill, but did not try to go down. (they are my neighbors - they are stuck at home too).

And yeah, it's nice to be needed, but maybe not this much. :upsidedow

I know once I get there, I'll be stuck, so I have pj's, extra clothes, and tons of food. Last time I got iced in at work, the cafeteria ran out!
