My younger DD is perfectly happy and comfortable in her birthday suit. We dress her several times a day but as soon as she is alone, she undresses. Let me stress that this is in the privacy of her own home. She doesn't strip in public.

At what age would you insist a child keep all their clothes on at home?

I would imagine it would be when you are uncomfortable with it. It's in your home. As long as no one can see in and they are dressed when company is coming over. I see no problem with it. It's up to you.

All the time...Never know what kind of weirdos are watching...

I have no idea. It wasn't anything my kids did when they were little.

I just had to tell you I just burst out laughing at the title to this thread.

I wouldn't necessarily put an age limit on it. I would insist that clothes be worn when other people are around. Sooner or later, they're going to be uncomfortable about people seeing them naked.

In one of Dana Carvey's shows from a few years ago, he mentioned that his kids liked to walk around the house naked, so he and he wife designated "naked time" every night for an hour or two. The rest of the day they had to wear clothes. The funny part was when he described the reactions of his friends who just happened to drop by during "naked time". Maybe a naked time each day would work for you. You wouldn't be saying you can't do it, you would be saying you can do it, but only during this time.

My DD thinks "Naked Time" is all day! LOL! She is 2 1/2 and still prefers to run around with no clothes on (at home.) She never tries to take them off in public. I think I started it when we were potty training. It was easier to let her be naked and just go to the potty. Now she does perfectly fine with her clothes on, but likes to be naked. She has been keeping them on more lately though. :) And when she is naked I keep the blinds closed.

I figure sooner or later she will want to keep her clothes on at home. And I am not going to make a big deal about it. :)

I'd say that if you have an older child who is uncomfortable, particularly a boy, then the child should wear clothes. Otherwise, it's fine. Modesty is a trait that she will eventually develop.

Pete is 7 and he is quite the "nature boy" around the house and I am constantly after him to put some pants on. :o

Reminds me when our kids were these kids here ages. Vince, Natalie, and the 3 children of very good friends of ours were all together one day, ages like 2 to 6. We were at their house. Anyway, the 4 youngest ones, Natalie, Vince and the younger boy and his sister, were all running like nuts, naked, around the circle, living room to dining room, kitchen, hallway and back to living room. They were having the time of their lives, LOL. The older brother, probably 6, still had on his undershorts, and was running too, but you could see he knew he was not having as much fun as the other 4. He was torn between being 'modest' and having fun. all of a sudden, he pulled off his shorts and got in line with the others, now all 5 running and having fun.

Now, he is runnibg a business, the sister just got married last fall, the younger brother is married and a dad, Vince is a firefighter and Natalie in college. We will never forget that day, and do bring it up often, usually to the dismay, LOL, but always laughter, of the kids. :)

Our 3 year old is always naked. We get home and you can find him by following the trail of clothes. Shoes by the front door, socks in the living room, pants in the kitchen, shirt on the stairs and undies in the upstairs hall...

I now try to insist he wear his undies at least because, to put it lightly, he tends to like to lead himself around the house with his "leash"... Drives the older kids nuts... :teeth:

Hes been pretty good about that most of the time.

My girls (now 15 and 16) were nudie cuties too! They stopped around 3 or 4 I think.

I think as long as you are comfortable with it, that should be the guide. I'm thinking by 3-4 undies are a good idea to encourage if for nothing else safety. I say that out of recent experience of taking the little guy to the doc for an infected little boy part (The censors would not let me use the correct anantomical name for it!)... the end got scratched then swole up.. OWWWWeeeeeeee!

It must be genetic because (no lie!) I asked my mom if I could go to Kindergarden in only my undies. I did not understand why I had to wear clothes.... I tried to bargin by asking if I wore them one day could I skip the next. She, smartly, said No! I have so many pix of me as a kid in just undies.

Although we gave it our best effort, my son was not the best at keeping all of his parts neat and clean if you know what I mean, so we insisted that he wear underwear if he was going to be sitting down anywhere.

:rotfl: :rotfl: that one was great!!

You'd think my husband was 3 again...man doesn't keep clothes on longer than 10 minutes when he gets home from work.

I agree....it all depends on what you're comfortable with.

My kids don't walk around naked but they do wear their undies (boxer shorts that everyone assumes are shorts anyway) and a shirt most of the day.

Apparently when I was little (2 or 3) I would strip naked and run outside to ride my Smurf big wheel. So I have no room to criticize anyone.

We have a rule in our house "no nakey on the furniture":p . That being said DD thinks nothing of just being in her underpants.

Hi. I had to chime in here. My DD is 6 and she would be naked all day, if left to her own devices. We manage to keep her in at least panties and a t shirt. She even strips in her sleep!!

This thread epitomizes everything I love about the DIS! Everyone is willing to answer the oddest questions, share stories from their own families, and opinions so far range from "the moment of birth" to "tweenty-five." LOL
