At last...my MIL Christmas Gift Thread, 2009 version

Those are hysterical! I called my husband to read them, and we both had a good chuckle-thanks for the laughs!

Once again you MIL doesn't disapoint, thanks for sharing Jill. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Oh, wait--I get it!! The gondolier shirt and beret are actually a mime outfit--for when your son graduates from Clown College with his degree in Balloon Animal Making! Because, after all, that's much more lucrative than engineering, anyway.

Maybe the African god book and the mating fish are a subtle hint that she wants more grandchildren. Clearly, her attractive Cookie Monster Sweater hint just went by the wayside with you.

In any event, I hope you're healing well and had a happy holiday. Someday, your MIL will no longer be on this earth, and the entire DIS will mourn her passing.

If you knew my husband you would be just as amused as I am! He is about as conservative as you can get, and the thought of him wearing that striped shirt, let alone a BERET has me in hysterics!

I've recently read through your other threads, and that really seems to be a theme with his gifts. It sounds like she really wishes he weren't so conservative, and she's trying to get him to open up to the new world of spock ears, strange shirts, and...I swear I read something else that had the same "he's conservative I can't imagine him wearing it" theme to it.

Or maybe I'm projecting...my dad has expressed his disappointment over the fact that I was never a radical (in his definition...I'm radical in many other ways but he doesn't accept those) type of person...not in gifts, though. :upsidedow

I too want pictures.

Being a clown at farmer's markets on weekends could actually give DS some spending money in college! There's a local market that has balloon clowns...not only do they make kids VERY happy, they seem to rake it in as well!

Ok I vote for a picture of the red headed kid in the cookie monster sweater making balloon animals! :lmao:

Me too. I have never ever laughed so hard as I did with the picture of the cookie monster sweater. The look on his face was priceless. :rotfl2:

How funny, my 17 year old brother is actually a balloon-maker for parties and such. He says he makes $14/hour, so it's worth all the hassle and occasional teasing. Maybe your son could look into it! :)

:lmao:

Those gifts are priceless. It almost makes me wish my MIL was as bad of a gift giver just to have the funny stories.

Jeafl, thanks for taking the time to share with us.:rotfl: My Christmas isn't complete without this thread!! I hope your recovery goes well.

Add me to the list of people who want a pic of your DH in the Gondolier shirt and beret! :lmao: I must also see this mating fish statue...

The gifts I received are starting to look pretty good after reading about yours.
Thanks for the laughs. Are you going to post a pic of your DH wearing his gift?

I second that! I will never forget the look on that kid's face, it still makes me laugh.

Thanks for posting, this year did not disappoint.

As always...fabulously funny:worship: :rotfl2:

I vote for the book as the best "huh" item.

Hope you feel better soon and have a great New Year!!!

Ooooh, that's good. They could be a father/son team!! Love it!

Thanks for the 2009 list. I love that your son got a complete SET of items to become a balloon maker extraordinaire! :rotfl: HOwever, I think the "Burmuda" trivets are possilby the best item.:cool1:

My husband's gift was pretty darn amusing as well. Somewhere, somehow, she found him a striped Gondolier shirt and a beret! LMAO If you knew my husband you would be just as amused as I am! He is about as conservative as you can get, and the thought of him wearing that striped shirt, let alone a BERET has me in hysterics!

This had me laughing.

I think long after your mil is gone, you and your family will always laugh and share the memories, of these crazy gifts. You should actually print out all the threads you posted on the DIS, so you never forget.

The balloons made me snort! Please, please post pictures!! :rotfl2:
