We have a 1Br at Grand Cal, our first time here! We are here for seven nights. We knew the regular entrance from GC to the park would be closed, no issues with that, but were not told about the scaffolding and scrim at all. The balconies are off limits and everything is very dark because of the scrim. I did go to the front desk to talk with someone. I knew the likelihood of anything else being available was pretty much nil, because of super low inventory here, and was told the scaffolding and scrim would be removed on Monday! Well, here it is Tuesday and no movement. We are here until Sunday. To say I’m disappointed is an understatement. We love to chill on our balconies and cannot do that. After countless stays at a large variety of DVC resorts this is literally the first time we have had any sort of issue. Is it worth it for me to push on this and see if we can get some kind of discount or refund? Is that even possible? Here’s me - wishing I could be on my balcony drinking my tea and reading my kindle. Sigh.

We were there for part of spring break in a 1 bedroom, and it is a huge bummer. Many of us have had to deal with the scaffolding/construction, but I didn’t try to get any type of compensation as it’s been posted on the booking site for quite some time. I shared this to the VGC thread back in February:

Hopefully the scaffolding will be removed very soon, and you can enjoy your balcony!

Not our home resort so wasn’t tracking on the main thread, and the above doesn’t say anything about views being blocked! I also don’t think it said anything about balconies when we booked in Sept. will check with member services tho.

I think you should escalate it and hopefully, either get some points back or a credit of some type. Be sure to emphasize that you planned on using your balcony every day.

I am sorry that it’s more disruptive than you had expected.

However. I think the notice that it would be under construction is there to alert guests to expect it.

I personally don’t think it’s something owners should expect to be compensated for.

I am with you on that. Take pictures is my suggestion as well.

If there is just some metal posts from scaffolding in the way I would expect it. A fully blocked view with scrim isn't something I would be thinking of when I read their notification.

Hopefully they rectify in some capacity.

I've got a trip in June and got an email warning about how it'd be under construction. I'm glad to finally stay there, little bummed about the referb but it'll look amazing after.

If you had to use extra points for a view and you didn't get a view, that's worth mentioning to them imo whether you get something back or not
