At Asmu now and not very happy!

I'm not sure what you want them to do? Things break down, especially things that are used as much as an AC unit at a hotel in Florida. They will have someone look at it but until they know the exact issue they can not guarantee how long it may be before a fix can be done. What if a part needs to be ordered?

They gave you two options. Move or they will bring fans. You refused both even though they are both logical and appropriate options. So that's 100% all on you.

The third option is to refuse both offers, suffer in the heat, complain online. I do not get it.

Yeah honestly you were given more than adequate solutions to the problem- if you paid extra for that specific room then you could ask for the price difference in rooms but other than that if they offer you same type of room, just go with it- it's vacation - life is too short to sweat it

First of all, very frustrated!! Got to the room and thought the air wasn't working good, so called front desk. They sent someone. He told us that it wasn't cooling properly. It was set on 68 and said it was 78 in the room. He was very nice and said that someone would "try" to come fix it. We had an adr so had to leave and are hoping its fixed when we get back. Very upset because he said he couldn't guarantee that it could be fixed? And we don't want to change rooms, got our room request, and location is exactly what I wanted. He even offered to bring fans! Um no, im on vacation and the air should work right. I plan on talking to the manager when we get back from eating, but it's very upsetting to have to deal with this the first day and instead of going to bed dealing with this and maybe having to change rooms tonight. Thanks for letting me vent!

Well if they can't fix it, then there are two choices: switch rooms or stay without AC.

Things break down, and I'm sure they will do their very best to fix it, but if they can't you can't get mad that your room is hot if you won't switch.

The OP just wanted to vent her frustration with fellow Dis. members. She didn't ask to get beat up by those same members. :confused3 I hope she comes back and give an update.

Exactly. I don't get the rudness of some people on Dis. Would they speak like that face to face with poster? Probably just trolls not worth a second thought.
OP did you get the AC problem solved?

We checked into the Grand Floridian villas about 1pm and were told our room was ready! Hurrah! We went to the room to drop off all of our stuff before going to the Magic Kingdom. As soon as I opened the door, I knew the AC wasn't working. I went back down to the front desk and asked them to send someone up to check it. A maintenance guy was at our door within 15 minutes. He opened the AC panel and poked around and then left without saying anything to us. We assumed he fixed it and went to get lunch. We returned about an hour later and the room was even warmer! Another trip down to the front desk. The clerk checked the computer and said that the problem with the AC had originally been called in at 10:30am by the housekeeper. She also said that another repair person was on his way to check it, because the first one didn't know what was wrong with it.

At this point, I asked to be moved to a new room. She told me she would check with the manager. I went back up to the room, but by this point it was too hot to stay there. I was reluctant to leave for the park thinking that we would get back at 10pm and still no air. This time the whole family went back down to the lobby. I asked if she had spoken with the manager about changing rooms, and she said he was due to return to the hotel shortly. I said we would wait and we camped out on a couch in full view. A few minutes later a manager type person walked in and she intercepted him. They spoke for a few minutes and then started checking the computer together. After a few minutes he came over. He said that the regular Grand Floridian repair guy couldn't fix the unit, so he called in an AC specialist. The AC specialist had come and found the part that needed to be replaced. However, that part was at another hotel. Someone had to physically deliver it to the GF. He tried to move us, but no other rooms were available. (I still find this hard to believe.) He assured us the AC would be fixed that night and encouraged us to go the MK as planned. He also gave us 3 additional fast passes each and gave us a $200 credit on our account. He gave me his personal cell phone number and said he was on duty until midnight and he would call us personally when the AC was fixed. He also encouraged me to call him directly if we returned from the park and still had an issue.

About 6:30pm, he sent me a text saying that he was just in our room and it was cool and comfortable. We returned about 10pm to a nice cool room and no additional issues! I hope your story ends as well as ours did!

A Grand Floridian Studio? I don't find it hard to believe at all. There are only 47 of them, and they do book rather solid. While he MIGHT have been able to swap you to a non-DVC unit, there are P&L implications to do that and if the A/C could be fixed most GMs will avoid that. The $200 credit is cheaper than the swap.

I do agree some were overly harsh. However it seems as though the OP was frankly snobby about the choices given to them. The room request thing has gotten out of control. The idea that the location of the room is more important than your family's comfort is absurd. It's truly unfortunate when the vacation gets off on the wrong foot, I will say that. I've had terrible luck with A/C units in my previous apartments so I get how long it can take to find and resolve the problem. Honestly if this were me, I would not hesitate to take a different room if offered one.

I'm sure you are correct! And, we were really happy with the credit.

I read the whole thread and I don't see anyone beating up the OP. Most were pointing out that the ac fix might not be easy so the guy didn't want to commit to having it repaired while they're at dinner.

Would it be better to be lied to?

I didn't read the responses as rude at all. Sometimes we build up the idea of a perfect Disney vacation in our minds. Then when the reality of a closed favorite attraction, or a 40 minute bus wait, or a broken AC unit happens, we don't handle it very well. I think the posts were encouraging her to make the best choice for her family given the current situation. And, I hope everything is resolved and she is happily enjoying her trip!

I guess the only proper response would be "Yes, it is horrible your air is broke. And yes, it is horrible they can't waive a magic wand and get it fixed on your time table!".

It is never convenient to have something break down. But if you are offered 2 solutions, decide neither of them will work, and expect what is broke to be magically fixed, well, then you are putting yourself in a hard place.

I am sorry for your situation OP. I hope it has been resolved to your satisfaction by now. :)

I don't understand what the answer would be for the OP if she was not willing to accept the offers management made. I just do not understand the commitment to any room when that room has a broken AC unit and management cannot promise to fix the unit in a timely manner. I think that if a room request is more important than reasonable accommodations from Disney, then there should be no complaining.

Everybody loves to vent. Frankly that aspect isn't an issue. What others were pointing out is the OP's own words:
"And we don't want to change rooms, got our room request, and location is exactly what I wanted. He even offered to bring fans! Um no, im on vacation and the air should work right."

So vent all you want but it's hard for those to sympathize with someone who has that type of attitude. Plenty of threads have posters on their side because the issue they have. Many however give advice like "speak with management, call this or go down to front desk that, etc" but in this case the OP has already spoken to management and management has given them options. The options management have given are what many people would find acceptable given the circumstances.

The OP does have a few choices:
~They can wait it out with hopes the air will get fixed (like another poster chimed in with their room issue they had and the air got fixed) as management said they would try to fix it
~They can be moved to another room
~They can stay in their room with the understanding the air may not get fixed during the duration of their stay depending on what is wrong with it

I can understand not wanting to move but in that case you've got to figure out what is more important to you with the available options to you. Sounds like the OP wants their cake and eat it too and no that's not being rude that's just pointing out the unreasonable expectations the OP has in this situation.

But you don't find it rude to call people on this thread who clearly aren't trolls, trolls?

I would see what room they have to offer before declining to move. May be one in just as desirable a location as the one you are in now, right?

I would have changed rooms IMMEDIATELY if the AC didn't work. I prefer the inside air temperature to be around 68--sometimes less.

THAT is the kind of service that drew me into being a Disney World fanatic almost 20 years ago. I am so glad it is still alive :)
