Back on topic! I have another question for the WM's--any and all.

There have been many threads that have become DIS Classics--usually because of the humor in them that makes us laugh just thinking about them. Just recently the microwaved cake and the buried turtle took on a life of their own that will be talked about, and remembered with a laugh for a very long time.

What is your favorite/most memorable DIS thread?

Gosh... so many to choose from! We had a poster named Robin who is tragically no longer with us. Robin had a rather colorful and dysfunctional family, and regaled us with tales of several hysterical family sagas. I loved her stories, especially when Grandma was featured! (Miss ya, Robin.)

Then there fun stories of possums in minivans, and grandmas losing thier swim tops and flashing the crowd at Typhoon Lagoon, and so many more!

Oh, and if WM ALEX shows back up here I want the eternal DIS question answered:

With millions of dollars worth of servers, equipment, hardware, software blah, blah, blah, WHY CAN'T PETE BUY YOU A WATCH THAT WORKS SO THE DIS CLOCK CAN SHOW THE CORRECT TIME????

Yeah... that danged server clock is a pain. The server actually physically sits in a location far away from Alex or any of the team here. This isn't entirely Alex's fault (although it's fine to blame him! )

And, did you all have a nice uneventful afternoon?

Eh, every now and then a few bored children with nothing better to do like to show up and make a lot of racket. This wasn't a very imaginative episode, and not too hard to clean up.

Sort of the electronic equivalent of neighborhood children TPing the front yard.

OK, how come the POLY info websist was **** out? Will we get in trouble for mentioning it?

Although that site offered great info and photos of my favorite resort, it teamed up with a travel agency and became commercial. They used our bandwith to repeatedly advertise and promote bookings through their travel agency, violating our rules against advertising.

No trouble for asking, it's a good question!


Also, how do you know the difference between someone who just loves a certain item (like crocs for example) and someone who's getting paid to rave about them on the web? Anyway, thanks for creating a great site!

You can tell. Someone who's a fan might mention the item very occasionally and in appropriate ways. Paid shills usually push and push and push, smelling up the place with the scent of SPAM! They also tend to copy and paste the same comments over and over.

Why is it that usually 2-3 weeks after getting a manicure my nails start "flaking and breaking"?

Don't you HATE that???

Didn't happen this last time, however, which confuzzled me even more since I couldn't figure out what was different.

Wow- then save the name of that manicurist!!! I've found a couple I like, and hate when I can't schedule with them. There are some people around here who do really sloppy work.

In regards to this afternoon. How many people worked on getting rid of the posts/pics and did you have to go post by post?

Kathy says: Several did... I think around 4 of us helped clean up here and there. We didn't have to go post by post. It really wasn't too bad.

Also if your at your 120 pm limit can a mod/webmaster still send a pm?

No, I'm pretty sure we can't. But we can find the email address you registered with and send a message there if the PM errors out.

Do the WM's have access to a better, stronger, faster search function in case they need it--particularly in cases like today when "find all posts by this user" type of function would be very helpful for the clean up effort?

Yes. But using it slows the boards down, so it won't work as a solution for everyday searches for everyone.

a long time ago the link to my personal WDW pics was removed. I was told it is because you can buy prints from my site and that makes it commercial. No problem I never put it back up.

If I lock the disney pics so you can not purchase or even download them, may I share them with a link again?

But if this is a site that happens to allow users to order photos, but *you* would personally make no profit, it should be okay. Smugmug was a little confusing in that respect, if I remember correctly, allowing members to set the prices to be listed for prints of their photos.

I can turn the purchase option completely off for those galleries. Will that make it OK?

That would be terrific! That removes the whole possibility of it being construed as "commercial"

I was thinking that as I wrote it and thought about phrasing it as "Six Million Dollar Search Function" but wasn't sure anyone would get what I was saying!

Our moms have accounts here, too: KayTX and NancyTX. Krista lives near me, and we have traveled to WDW at the same time several times. Sometimes we even book the same flights.
