Asia Disney Parks closed due to Coronavirus (SHDL, HKDL, TDL)

That's only possible whilst the numbers are low. Once you get high double digit new cases per day I imaging tracing them all get difficult
The statistics are what they are. Explanations as to why they might be incorrect have to be proven. Imagining that there is another explanation doesn't really suffice in that regard, unless you have evidence that they haven't enough people to do what they say they are doing.

I'm sure it is difficult to track down hundreds of people, but we're monitoring 8400 people in California alone. No reason to think the Italians can't do it, too.

Italian Government has it's...issues... Wouldn't put a whole lot of stock in anything that comes out of their mouths.
We said this about China. Then Korea. Then Japan. Then Italy. At some point it becomes a little silly to keep disregarding every country's response as being government ineptitude and we have to start accepting that if the virus shows up it's darn hard to keep it from spreading...

Oh hi.

Plus, we already have evidence of our OWN government ineptitude, with the mixup in tests in San Diego, and the refusal to test at UC Davis.

It's comforting to think the US has better this or that, but that doesn't make us immune from problems, nor does it make the virus behave any better toward us than it has in other populations. If it's going to be nasty, it'll do it here just as well as it will in Italy or China. I guess I'd like to face up to that possibility, even if it's unpleasant to do so.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I don't think you've ever heard me complimenting our government! :rotfl2:

I'm sorry some of you are upset with my statements about the Italian Government, but I don't know what to tell you. They aren't always forthcoming with information.

And, I guess that remains to be seen. How we (U.S.) responds, what resources we have, etc. What happens in Italy will be more telling than perhaps what occurred in China, as China was completely blindsided whereas Italy had some notice of what was going on. And, thus far, statistically, the cases and corresponding deaths outside of Wuhan have been much different than what was occurring in the epicenter. Should we be prepared-yes. Should we be in panic mode-absolutely not.

Yes, definitely I think we are going to get a lot better data from Italy. In fact, they are the most complete set of data on a single population that we really have so far, which is kind of crazy when you think that there've been over 80k cases!

I'm not sure where you get your information from maybe old stereotypes? Italy is leader in many fields among which the pharmaceutical industry and medical imaging. Sure the governments they have had in the last few years are not very impressive, but I would argue that many other countries in and outside Europe are not living an ideal political moment. In saying that the Lombardy Region has been extremely clear and upfront providing twice daily press conferences. Besides if anything a country would rather make its data appear better than what it is rather than worse...
You can access all their data on the protezione civile website

Old stereotypes?

Anyways, I'm not disputing anything but the the ease of disseminating information from Italy's government. Simple as that. I don't need to find examples. And I guess I could acknowledge every government that has it's problems, but I was directly addressing a post that discussed Italy, so I didn't do that.

Not sure why people keep insisting that I'm dismissing Italy's health/scientist/medical professional expertise.

And for no other reason than this post will be closed, I'll stay out of the politics discussion.

If wdw does close it won’t be because people are afraid to go out. It will likely be because the virus has a foothold in the us and the government (cdc) thinks shutting down places like theme parks and sporting events will help contain the virus and prevent more spreading.

im not saying it will happen but if it does it won’t be wdw in isolation but part of a comprehensive cdc plan.

One advantage usa has it seems more areas are getting infected by people who have been recently to Iran (Australia, Europe and North Africa so far) . Pretty shore travelling to there is banned for people entering USA

Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Yemen, North Korea and Venezuela are on a relatively new terrorism-related travel ban list that received much press a few years ago. I guess that did accidentally help us considering two of them (Iran and NK) are in the middle of pretty bad outbreaks.

That ban plus the China travel ban has bought us a lot of time.I hope we've put our good luck to good use.

That is a way of thinking that I didn't put much into previously. I wonder if this is shaping up to a race for a/the vaccine or if they really think it is possible to "break the chain" as the WHO said. Of course, they are proceeding down many simultaneous paths at the same time.

Conversations are ongoing today about the Paris resort. Likely to close on Wednesday, but could be pushed to Friday. Little point in having it open regardless if attendance drops more than 70%.

I think a smart policy, which our government seems to be pursuing, is throw everything at the wall and see what sticks...

So, they are trying to slow it down at entry in multiple ways...they are trying to create a vaccine...they are trying drug trials to see if any meds mitigate the issues...they are encouraging preparation and possible future life changes for a short term (to keep people apart)...they are stocking up on supplies for docs to handle treatment...

Maybe nothing will stick...maybe everything will stick...maybe it won't matter b/c the virus itself will mutate into (hopefully) something more benign...it's so early in an illness that lasts 3-4 weeks per person and now seems to come back in some ala Typhoid Mary...so, all we can do is keep living and preparing and staying informed...
