It really isn’t worth looking at what happened in Wuhan as a predictor for much of anything.
A place like Italy, that had prior knowledge of the virus, is far more telling as to how things may go for other countries.
It isn't going to stay a small number of cases in Africa. The health systems in Africa is a mess and the virus is in Lagos which is one of the largest metro areas in the world with a high population density, international airport, major port and a major rail terminus. This is going to spread across Africa at an alarming rate.It would be counterintuitive to flee a place with VERY few instances of this, and head to a place in which there is already MORE risk of catching it. Coronavirus is not why people will be going from Africa to the EU.
https://news.yahoo.com/cdc-outlined-ominous-hypothetical-scenario-214633263.htmlThe problem is not the majority of people getting severely ill. What you try to avoid with the shut downs is enough people getting ill enough to overwhelm the healthcare system. It would only take 0.1% of the population being extremely ill from it at one time to more than fill every empty hospital bed in the country.
California is monitoring 8,400 for Coronavirus, but only has 200 testing kits. But we aren't testing at the numbers that other countries are. We can't isolate the risks if we don't know who they are.
India confirmed its first case a month ago.I am honestly amazed that there are no reports of it in India yet. They have the worst case trifecta of large groups of poor, densely populated and least Government control/assistance.
Unfort. there is no cure or vaccine for SARS - just containment which is what has mitigated itA television news report from a couple of days ago said that the SARS virus was very similar in structure to this one. They said the vaccine they used for SARS has a high probability it will work against this one. They claim to have started this testing.
I have no clue on the validity of this claim.
That is exactly what I believe. I think it is likely the virus has already reached Africa as Chinese are still traveling back an forth completely unchecked. We also have to remember that in many places like Africa and India government may not be particularly efficient. And official healthcare is not exactly ubiquitous or affordable. Parts of Africa have strong ties with China right now as China is using foreign policy money to build allies among those countries. Their Roads and Bridges program is paying huge political dividends. It is hard to believe, with a heavy Chinese presence, those countries do not have infections following the pre-containment diaspora. BUT, it's easy to believe people are a) not seeking treatment from reporting providers or any providers, b) reporting care providers have no way to test for COVID-19 and, therefore, no way to know, and c) anything officially reported is not released because ties to China are really, really important.
The world just isn't as transparent as we wish for a lot of very good local reasons.

WDW has like 50,000 employees. They won't close if CM's start testing positive. They'll replace them with more CM's while they are in quarantine. That's my concern as well. I think the guests will still visit no matter what, but I'm leaning towards a decent probability for the US parks to close if CMs start testing positive for Corona.
This won't just be a Disney thing either as they're closing Universal Japan. Based on recent news, keep an eye on the west coast parks ... Disneyland, Universal, Legoland, Knott's Berry etc.
After many weeks of people being infected and traveling with no restrictions. It was way too late by then. This is not true. China basically went on complete shutdown to contain the virus.
India has confirmed cases.North Africans maybe but I would not think the people South of the Sahara would want to travel to Europe where it is already (especially Italy) rather than South where there are none/fewer.

The name of this virus is SARS-CoV2. COVID19 is the disease it causes. So, it is a SARS virus.A television news report from a couple of days ago said that the SARS virus was very similar in structure to this one. They said the vaccine they used for SARS has a high probability it will work against this one. They claim to have started this testing.

So, some more information from my husband who is stationed overseas in Okinawa right now.
First of all, he says the situation in Japan is BAD. Like, worse than they are admitting freely. He gets a lot of intelligence that we are not privvy to here, as the military has a strong base presence in mainland Japan. Yesterday, he said "stuff is about to get crazy over here."
So, US Forces Japan has issued new guidance to ALL military members stationed in Japan/Okinawa:
They are not permitted to shake hands or make physical contact with co workers or members of the general public at this point (outside of immediate family).
They may soon begin checking temperatures at the base entry gates, for everyone trying to access base (this is already being done at US military bases in Korea)
Okinawa schools are closing early for spring break. They have closed immediately, and for a period of 3 weeks (their spring break was supposed to be in 2 weeks from now, but they are closing early). DOD Schools on base will likely follow suit and close as well.
It is possible that those servicemembers who were approved for leave that takes them off island will be revoked for a period of time. In addition, off base liberty may be revoked in the short term.
Just wanted to pass along the measures being taken by our government, on behalf of servicemembers in the Pacific region. This is a good indicator of what may eventually come to pass here stateside, if this virus begins to pop up around the country.
He was scheduled to attend a 2 week training in Korea beginning next week. That has, thankfully, been cancelled altogether. He is supposed to come home in a month for our kid's spring break week, but that is an uncertainty at this point, unfortunately.
He told me last night that we should cancel our Tokyo Disneyland trip for late May. He has no confidence in Japan's ability to get this situation under control by then.
