My experience with SLR film cameras transferred over, but did not prepare me for CCD cleaning. The local camera store wants to ship my DSLR out of state for 6 weeks. There is another store front who wants $50 to clean and inspect.

So, after doing the math, I have located a source for cleaning the CCD on my own. I found many sources on DPReview but my preference is a local store front if at all possible. You may also find instructions at cleaningdigitalcameras.

There is dusting and cleaning, I dust once a month and clean as needed(tends to be about every 16months).

There are several levels of cleaning; from exterior dusting, to removing the lens and lifting the mirror and cleaning the CCD. Some variables that may need to be considered when deciding what your maintenance schedule should be for your DSLR include: 1) how often and under what conditions the lens is removed from the camera body. 2) what level of quality is required from the images.

I have read where some people clean the chamber once a week and check the CCD. I have yet to establish a schedule because I am still adjusting to my recently purchased camera.

We have a family trip schedule for the week of Thanks Giving. I am looking for suggestions as they relate to focal length and lighting. If anyone knows of a thread on this board or another, I would truly appreciate the feedback.

There are different skill levels which include professional and amateur. I like to think of myself as daddy level. My photography is an attempt to preserve the special moments in my children’s life for future generations to enjoy.
