Art the Greeter at the Beach Club

I hope everyone is having a safe and Happy Memorial Day weekend!!!

Hoping there are more stories out there.......................

I don't have a story but when we pull up to the Beach Club and we see Arts smiling face then I know we are home!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

I wish DVC would showcase Art in one of the quarterly magazines we get. I sure would like to know more about him. He seems to me like he would have tons of grandkids (all of whom would adore him, of course!) but who knows?

Seeing Art at BCV is certainly one of the things I look forward to when we visit or stay there. A friend of mine stayed in January for her 40th birthday and I told her that she and her hubby HAD to meet Art. Of course he graciously posed for a photo with them to send back to me.

I think Art is one of the lucky people who are doing a job they are PERFECT for!

The resort would not be the same for many of us without Art's cheerful welcome - "Good Morning to the lady, and the lady and the gentleman..."
He truly does make our trip special. I'm sure over the years he's gotten lots of complimentary emails to guest communications yet he remembered the one I sent and mentioned it on our next visit. Art is what makes the BC "Mickey's hotel" as my 6 yr old calls it. We checked in on his day off last year and, as we walked down the hall, DD6 kept telling me we were in the wrong hotel because Art was missing and we didn't have a 5th floor room. She kept saying "but mommy this isn't Mickey's hotel. We couldn't get her to accept that we were really at the BC and not a look-alike resort until she saw Art the next morning!

Art has a lovely wife and grown children. He also has a granddaughter, who he adores and takes on visits to the parks occassionally on his days off.
He is by far the most quietly magical and kindest man we've ever met.
No need to ask what would Walt think, he'd have been proud to have such an exceptional person as one of his employees. Around here the question instead could be "what would Art think..."

We just stayed at the BC for the first time the other week, and I'm sorry to say we didn't get a chance to talk to him. I've heard so much about him on the DIS and was looking forward to it. Everytime we saw him, he was busy chatting with people. DH said hi to him as we walked by and told him he was famous. I definitely want to talk to him next time. I enjoy reading everyone's stories on here.

You know...as I was sitting here, reading your post, I got to the end of it and thought...how wonderful life would be if we all tried to be more 'Art-like' in our daily lives. I'm sure he has his grumpy times, we all do, but he always has that huge smile and a kind word for everyone. Yes, it's his job...I realize that. But, perhaps if we all tried to emulate Art in some small way, every day..what a difference we could make. Perhaps we could stop and say to ourselves..."Hmmm, how would Art deal with this?" Right up there with 'what would Walt think' I believe. Art is truly all about the kind of magic that Walt Disney had in mind.

Tink901 and I were the people that were busy chatting with Art most of the 19th and 22nd of May during our stay at the Beach Club! He is a pleasure to talk to and we are pleased to call him our friend.

Thanks again everyone for all the feedback/experiences with Art.

Does anyone remember the older gentlemen who greeted at The Contemporary? I haven't seen him in a few years but he looked similar to Art and had great personality just like Art? I don't think it was the same gentleman however but does anyone have any info?

Art is one of those people that makes Disney World so special. I first met him at a Disney University training session sometime in the late 1990's. He met and talked with a group of us about his role at the Beach Club in customer service and satisfaction.

It was clear from the very beginning that customer service and satisfaction flowed from his personality and obvious sincerity. Like many, I've met people who talk the talk about those values but Art so clearly lives and breathes them it is, frankly, humbling. And a challenge to bring one's own existence up to the heights he achieves. But also always refreshing.

I saw someone mention that no visit to the Beach Club is complete without seeing and talking to Art. I could not agree more. I feel a sense of pride beyond all reason when I hear his comfortable voice chortle "That's a fine salute, sir!"

Would that we all could be more like Art in our every day lives.

Isn't Art the greatest?! He is definitely one of the things that puts the magic in Disney!

We had our first experience with Art last year at the BC. He was so wonderful each and every day. My son traded pins with him and he always had time for a cheery hello and wanted to know how our day was.

We'll be staying at the WL this year and when I told my son about it, his first words were "that means no Art?". I promised him we'd stop over for a visit!

This is a great idea! If everyone had a bit more Art in them this world would truly be a better place!

WOW!!!
The first time I think I saw Art was on the travel channel doing a WDW special. I have never stayed at the BC, but I recognize the guy ART! You guys are amazing to do this for him.

How special to have one person make such a difference in so many people's lives just by being friendly, and humble. That is sooo awesome! Gosh, I may have to take a trip over there just to meet the big man!

:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes
