Art the Greeter at the Beach Club

I don't know if anyone else mentioned it but there is a close up picture of Art in the current Disney World brochure. I think the picture has been in the brochure for years.

I haven't seen a WDW brochure in years, so didn't know that! Thanks!

Tink901,

Just wondering... do you think that Art might be amenable to perhaps receiving an invitation to a MouseFest meet at Beaches & Cream? There's a particular podcast that's planning on a B&C meet during MouseFest, and I was thinking of recommending to them that if they want an extra special experience, contact Art & invite him to attend, perhaps as the guest of honor?

What do you think?

Enjoy the Magic!

I didn't get a pic, but I had the chance to meet Art last month when I went to the Cape May character breakfast with my ds. I saw him and went right up to him and told him that he was a legend on the DISboards and that I just had to say hi! He talked to my ds for a minute, and they did a great salute to each other. (I don't know how I didn't get a pic of it...wish I did!) He is SO nice!!

Mr Magicmph:

I think he would be honored. Do I get to come and take pictures too??? The only thing is he does work Tues - Sat 8-4pm. As long as he was available I'm sure he would feel honored and he would be there if he could.

I get to see him in 9 days, taking him and his wife to the pirate & princess party on 8/31 - can't wait!!!!!

Take care,
Brenda

What a lovely thing to do for him.

We will be staying at the BC 12/20 to 12/28 :santa: this year so hope to get to meet Art then. He sounds a fantastic person.

Our flight from the UK is not due to land till 3pm so sounds like Art will not be at work when we check in.

Count me in as one of Art's many friends. Even though I've only stayed at the BC a couple times, I'm always sure to stop by the BC to visit during every trip.

But did you know that there's also a greeter next door at the Yacht Club? I can't recall for certain, but I think his name is Robert. He's dressed as a commodore, if I recall. That makes sense.

I've only met him a couple times, and he may not be a five-day-a-week position. He's a really nice guy as well. But what a tough job, just because he's going to be compared to Art. I'll try to remember to stop by there during our visit next month.

Anyone know any more about Robert (including his name, if I got it wrong)?

I think maybe you're talking about Captain Bob. If so, we were told in July that he had just retired and they now have a new greeter. I am ashamed to say that I can't remember the new YC greeter's name although we did meet him and chatted for a few minutes.

You're right, I imagine Art, and Capt Bob for that matter, may be a hard act to follow. Kind of like getting a new teacher, until my kids get used to the new one they vastly imortalize the previous year's teacher.

I can't imagine walking into the BC lobby and knowing Art was not going to be there. It's hard enough when we check in on his days off. Thankfully the gentleman assures me that he intends to be there for quite a while - as long as God lets him. I pray that'll be a very long time indeed...

Ooh, cool, I'm going to the P&PP on 8/31 and maybe I'll get to see the famous Art before we stay at the BC in November!

Tink,

I'll be recommending it to the guys who are organizing that meet in the next few days, & if they agree (I don't even know what day or time it's scheduled to be yet), I will DEFINITELY let you know. MIGHT even be able to have one of them personally invite Art right around Epcot's Birthday.

I'll keep everybody filled in as possible!

Enjoy the Magic!

We will be a rather large group there will be 6-10 of us together and most likely matching T shirts. We are going to the Plaza for a early dinner about 4:45. Then we will be around probably until close. We age from a 5 yr old to
62 yr old, only one little one and the rest adults 4 women and 4 or 5 men.

Enjoy your trip!!! We are celebrating my bday this trip can't wait to be there.

Sounds like a plan - thanks for keeping me informed!!

8 days and counting - can't wait to see Art - I haven't seen him since May. Need that pixie dust and his awesome smile!!

Up until Jan/Feb of this year I think there was a greeter at the Yacht Club named Roy - he looked like a younger version of Art. He was Awesome unfortunately he has left the company. They do have a greeter named Woody now who is at the Yacht and at the Beach sometimes on Art's days off.

Till I read this thread I didn't know how famous Art is! He gave me directions earlier this month, and was so helpful. He's a treasure! lilyv

I am not sure if I am too late on this or not, but I just wanted to share something...

When we were kids, we always wanted to stay at the Beach Club so bad, but we weren't sure if we would ever get to or not. One year, God blessed us with the ability to stay there and we were so excited.

I remember pulling up to the BC and getting ready to walk in. When we entered the lobby, there was Art. He took the time to greet each of us one by one, even my younger sister who was very little at the time. Even at my young age, I could tell that something in his smile was unique, like you could feel the warmth of his soul every time he spoke. I felt so thrilled that he had recognized us and even called me "lady"... I felt like a princess!! It was as if Walt Disney himself stood before me.

There aren't a whole lot of people in this world who have that "something" about them, but Art is definitely one of them. It's as if he exudes Disney magic all day long. I wasn't sure if he still worked there or not, but since it seems he still is, I will definitely make it a point to head over to the BC lobby and thank him for being a wonderful part of my childhood Disney memories. I don't think I'll ever forget how special I felt that day, and I look back on it very fondly.

Oh how I wish I had a picture to share with you. He is the sweetest man ever! My daughter and I had so much fun chatting with him. Disney has a real treasure in him.

I've heard from the podcast that's going to be doing the Beaches & Cream Kitchen Sink meet. They hadn't thought about inviting Art, but once suggested, the podcaster LOVED that idea. I believe he's first going to get the meet completely "confirmed' with the MouseFest organizers, but, I'd say that it's highly likely that they'll be inviting him. Plus, since one of the two podcasters is from Florida, I would suspect that he'll be extending the invitation to Art personally.

I'm sure that I'll be hearing from them when things are finalized, & it will be my pleasure to let you (& everyone here in this thread) know when I do.

Enjoy the Magic!

Hello Everyone -

Can't wait I leave for WDW in 3 days, not that I'm counting and get to spend 5 days with Art. He will be off work from Friday - Monday (Labor Day). Thought I would let you know in case anyone was stopping by to visit him.
