For those of you who occasionally catch late night radio, Art Bell who has been a "late night" radio staple for several years on his syndicated radio program has had his share of personal tragedies. Last night his wife of 15 years, Ramona, passed away unexpectedly following an asthma attack. She was only 47 years old. I believe a few years ago he left radio due to some problems with his then 14 year old son. He has also suffered chronic, disabling back pain over the years as well. Very sad.

That's so sad. I loved listening to his oldies....

I recall the issue with his son now. He was kidnapped and raped by a substitute high school teacher at the age of 13 or 14.

He also had quite a few threats on his life and his families because of his subject matter and had to move out to the middle of nowhere for safety IIRC. My dad loved listening to him. Me? I'll pass or I'd be up all night scared.

His subject matter is really so far "out there" that I can't imagine what his life would be threatened for but I am sure you are correct. There are a lot of nut cases for sure and he does live in the middle of nowhere. I remember driving home late with the kids when they were little and he had a man with MS who was pretty much confined to a wheel chair but he could leave his body to walk around and go where ever he wanted to. He gave "instructions" on how to do it. I remember thinking at the time that if I were him, I would want to imagine I could leave my wheel chair too. My youngest DS had a dream that night that he left his body, came down stairs and heard voices calling him so he ran right back up to bed and got back in his body. He said, "I am not ever going to do that again". Wouldn't it have been a hoot if it wasn't a dream. ;)

I recall my dad saying the threats were made by religious groups who didn't like his subject matter. I think the middle of nowhere that he lives in is in the CA desert? There is a lot of scary middle of nowhere outthere. That woulda been crazy if that wasn't a dream.

So back onto the topic, that's really sad. And actually the first thing that came to my mind is someone had killed her (hence the derail).

Any updates on the cause of death of Ramona Bell?
