I would just like to say...for me, personally...I was buying the gift cards anyway (I leave in 2 weeks for Disney) as well as groceries. I had no high expectations and was actually surprised that it worked. I was told by the cashier how lucky I was because I was getting 20% off my gift cards too without me even asking if it would work. I did not bully, push, demand, expect, whine, cry, feel entitled or put up any such fuss!!! It was given to me...without question. Am I to feel guilty because my local store allowed me to use this coupon???? Is it partially my fault if they stop giving the 5% off???? No, not at all. I think some of these negative comments are a little absurd, to be honest. People need to get off their high horse and stop whining and blaming others for losing a "perk" that has yet to even be taken away!!!!
And that is wonderful! Others went in prepared to fight for their 20%, no matter what. I'm not whining or complaining. I am just trying to get people to understand that their actions (the ones who pushed the issue) affect more than just themselves. More likely than not, they live every day of their lives never even giving a second thought to how anything they do might affect anyone else.
Has anyone demanded the discount? I am not sure. I read through this entire thread and it seems like the people who have gotten it have been perfectly polite and kind. And by most accounts the Target employees have been very happy for the customers. That was our case anyway.
I've read on this thread and several others that people knew going into it that it probably wouldn't work, but they went directly to CS to do whatever it took to get the discount.
I agree that some people are being very extreme and harsh. I think it probably has to do with the fact that some of those people did not get the discount. I would be upset too - but I knew going into it that it may or may not work. Just because it worked for some people doesn't mean that those people are horrible people who are costing employees their jobs and taking away other discounts in the future. Target knows about the discount. I guarantee you that when a customer comes in and buys thousand of dollars in ANYTHING, they notice. Do you think that last time you spent $4000 and got your 5 or 10% off that they didn't notice? When was the last time you ever spent that much in Target? I'm just saying. They are aware of the situation.
I'm so sorry to all of those people that did not get this discount. I just don't think it's okay to be super angry with those that did. Life is not fair sometimes.
Don't feel sorry for me. I didn't get the discount, didn't attempt to get the discount, nor even left the house all weekend. I have no use for a discount on Disney GCs right now. That is not the reason I vented. I will admit that I was a little harsh in my vent, but I am just so tired of adults with entitlement issues, I may have snapped a little. So for that I'm sorry. But please be aware that stores can and will fire someone for overriding a discount. It happens all the time. Sadly, an employee will override a discount to keep from getting a customer complaint, but sign their own pink slip in the process.
I'm not angry with the ones who did, I am just diappointed in the ones who expect it, and ate trying to twist the wording for thier benefit.
This. I still fully expect that Target will immediately change their inventory system to reflect all "entertainment" cards as GCs. Just to save them from this hassle and profit loss in the future.
Totally agree that people should not badger, yell or demand anything. If you tried it and it was not successful, definitely move on.
I think I'm just a little disturbed by the amount of people who are extremely angry with the people who did get it.
I agree most definitely with your first paragraph. However, I'm not angry with the people who got the discount because they got it. I'm angry with the ones who demonstrated that good old entitlement mindset and wore down the management until they got the discount.
Not angry, disappointed. Many of us here discussed the real possibility that Target would end all future discounts from the Red Card and Pharmacy coupon. Many also discussed the repercussions these managers will face after being pressured to give the discount.
These few DISers ignored these two factors. I would never force the issue to save a couple of hundred on a vacation I feel very fortunate to plan. Not at the expense of thousands of future purchases of Disney gift cards, let alone at the expense of someone's job!
This! Again, this is what I'm saying.
Ok, here's the thing. If you just plopped your couple of Disney GCs on the belt with your robes and CDs and whatnot and then you got 20% on all of it immediately and automatically due to whatever powers that be, fine. I'm tickled for you, I truly am. Was I willing to go out this weekend and deal with traffic and crowds to get a future 20% discount - NO. If I had been willing to and I got the magical 20% discount, would I have tried to use it to buy $5000 worth of Disney GCs? No, because that action alone would have thrown up a red flag. Upon entering the store, I would have politely asked someone in CS before I started shopping if it would have worked. If they said yes, then I probably would have run with that. If they had said no, then I would have wished them a good day and proceeded to buy whatever else I needed and been done with it. I would not have started the semantics argument about gift cards vs. entertainment cards or insisted that someone call corporate and tie up at least one CS and one manager for and hour or more (from reports on various threads) on one of the busier days of the year. The simple fact that Target corporate put an automated message on their phone system to directly address that Disney GCs are not to be included under the discount should maybe give you an idea how they are wanting to handle this. But people still continued to press the issue.
People cannot take NO for NO. They take NO for maybe. Or they don't think that the NO could possibly apply to them, it only applies to other people. This is a problem. And I'm not just talking about today at Target with this discount. I see plenty of people acting like this every day of the year. And they are 10 times worse when they are actually at Disney World (or any vacation destination), they're the ones running their stroller over your feet, or pushing you out of the way to see a parade.
I'm not jealous, I'm disappointed in humanity. And the humanity in question is raising a whole new generation of entitled brats. That makes me sad.
